Evidence for particle-hole excitations in the triaxial strongly-deformed well of ^{163}Tm
Two interacting, strongly-deformed triaxial (TSD) bands have been identified
in the Z = 69 nucleus ^{163}Tm. This is the first time that interacting TSD
bands have been observed in an element other than the Z = 71 Lu nuclei, where
wobbling bands have been previously identified. The observed TSD bands in
^{163}Tm appear to be associated with particle-hole excitations, rather than
wobbling. Tilted-Axis Cranking (TAC) calculations reproduce all experimental
observables of these bands reasonably well and also provide an explanation for
the presence of wobbling bands in the Lu nuclei, and their absence in the Tm
isotopes.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figure
Small noncoding RNA profiling across cellular and biofluid compartments and their implications for multiple sclerosis immunopathology
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease affecting the central nervous system (CNS). Small non-coding RNAs (sncRNAs) and, in particular, microRNAs (miRNAs) have frequently been associated with MS. Here, we performed a comprehensive analysis of all classes of sncRNAs in matching samples of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), plasma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cells, and cell-free CSF from relapsing-remitting (RRMS, n = 12 in relapse and n = 11 in remission) patients, secondary progressive (SPMS, n = 6) MS patients, and noninflammatory and inflammatory neurological disease controls (NINDC, n = 11; INDC, n = 5). We show widespread changes in miRNAs and sncRNA-derived fragments of small nuclear, nucleolar, and transfer RNAs. In CSF cells, 133 out of 133 and 115 out of 117 differentially expressed sncRNAs were increased in RRMS relapse compared to remission and RRMS compared to NINDC, respectively. In contrast, 65 out of 67 differentially expressed PBMC sncRNAs were decreased in RRMS compared to NINDC. The striking contrast between the periphery and CNS suggests that sncRNA-mediated mechanisms, including alternative splicing, RNA degradation, and mRNA translation, regulate the transcriptome of pathogenic cells primarily in the CNS target organ.Peer reviewe
A one-dimensional lattice model for a quantum mechanical free particle
Two types of particles, A and B with their corresponding antiparticles, are
defined in a one dimensional cyclic lattice with an odd number of sites. In
each step of time evolution, each particle acts as a source for the
polarization field of the other type of particle with nonlocal action but with
an effect decreasing with the distance: A -->...\bar{B} B \bar{B} B \bar{B} ...
; B --> A \bar{A} A \bar{A} A ... . It is shown that the combined distribution
of these particles obeys the time evolution of a free particle as given by
quantum mechanics.Comment: 8 pages. Revte
Triaxial Superdeformation in 163 Lu
Abstract High-spin states in 163 Lu have been investigated using the Euroball spectrometer array. The previously known superdeformed band has been extended at low and high energies, and its connection to the normal-deformed states has been established. From its decay the mixing amplitude and interaction strength between superdeformed and normal states are derived. In addition, a new band with a similar dynamic moment of inertia has been found. The experimental results are compared to cranking calculations which suggest that the superdeformed bands in this mass region correspond to shapes with a pronounced triaxiality ( Îł â±20°)
E0 Transitions and the Depopulation of SD Bands
We present the results of calculations showing that E0 transitions may successfully compete with other types of electromagnetic transitions in the decay out of SD bands
Digitally-enabled, patient-centred care in rhinitis and asthma multimorbidity: The ARIA-MASK-airÂź approach
MASK-airÂź, a validated mHealth app (Medical Device regulation Class IIa) has enabled large observational implementation studies in over 58,000 people with allergic rhinitis and/or asthma. It can help to address unmet patient needs in rhinitis and asthma care. MASK-airÂź is a Good Practice of DG SanteÌ on digitally-enabled, patient-centred care. It is also a candidate Good Practice of OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). MASK-airÂź data has enabled novel phenotype discovery and characterisation, as well as novel insights into the management of allergic rhinitis. MASK-airÂź data show that most rhinitis patients (i) are not adherent and do not follow guidelines, (ii) use as-needed treatment, (iii) do not take medication when they are well, (iv) increase their treatment based on symptoms and (v) do not use the recommended treatment. The data also show that control (symptoms, work productivity, educational performance) is not always improved by medications. A combined symptom-medication score (ARIA-EAACI-CSMS) has been validated for clinical practice and trials. The implications of the novel MASK-airÂź results should lead to change management in rhinitis and asthma
