Study of a colliding laser-produced plasma by analysis of time and space-resolved image spectra
The interaction of two counter-propagating laser-produced plasmas was studied using simultaneous
imaging and spectroscopic techniques. Spectrally-filtered time-gated ICCD imaging was used
to obtain information about the spatial dynamics and temporal evolution of the collision process.
While, time-resolved imaging spectroscopy was used to determine the spatial and temporal distributions
of electron temperature and density within the interaction region. We examine specifically
the interaction of plasmas whose parameters match those typically used in pulsed laser deposition
of thin films. These low temperature plasmas are highly collisional leading to the creation of a
pronounced stagnation layer in the interaction region
Understanding multiracial college student virtual community
Includes bibliographical references.2022 Fall.The purpose of this study was to understand the role of social media in the lives of Multiracial college students as they build and maintain community. A phenomenological approach enabled answering the research question: How do Multiracial students use social media to build and maintain community? Informed by critical multiracial theory and virtual kinship frameworks, the study included elicitation interviews with 10 Multiracial students as they shared self-selected examples from their social media. Three themes emerged from the data: seeking similarities with Multiracial people, cultivating an online persona, and engaging in Multiracial discourse. Based on this study's findings, practitioners and scholars are encouraged to adopt a critical approach to Multiracial policy and practice and facilitate the development of virtual Multiracial affinity spaces
Experiments with metallic and ceramic porous media
Work in the area of mechano-caloric phenomena was initiated during 1988 with startup in the Summer 1988 period. The ideal system utilizing He-II super-phenomena is modeled readily, within the frame of thermodynamics energetics, using the concept of an ideal superleak. The real system however uses porous media of non-ideal pore-grain ingredients. The early phase of experimental and related modeling studies is outlined for the time period from Summer 1988 to the end of 1988
Classical versus Quantum Structure of the Scattering Probability Matrix. Chaotic wave-guides
The purely classical counterpart of the Scattering Probability Matrix (SPM)
of the quantum scattering matrix is defined for 2D
quantum waveguides for an arbitrary number of propagating modes . We compare
the quantum and classical structures of for a waveguide
with generic Hamiltonian chaos. It is shown that even for a moderate number of
channels, knowledge of the classical structure of the SPM allows us to predict
the global structure of the quantum one and, hence, understand important
quantum transport properties of waveguides in terms of purely classical
dynamics. It is also shown that the SPM, being an intensity measure, can give
additional dynamical information to that obtained by the Poincar\`{e} maps.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure
The relationship between academics’ strategic research agendas and their preferences for basic research, applied research, or experimental development
In this study, we assess the association between academics’ research agendas and their preferences for basic research, applied research, or experimental development. Using a sample of Mexican academics working in some of the country’s most research-oriented universities, we identify three clusters. The largest is composed of applied research-oriented academics, the second largest is composed of basic research-oriented academics, and the smallest is composed of academics who engage in both basic and applied research, and experimental development. The strategic research agendas of the three clusters are distinguished from each other along four main dimensions: Divergence, Discovery, Mentor Influence, and Social Orientation. These findings show that strategic research agendas are associated with preferences for basic research, applied research, or experimental development, but only to some extent. We also extend the Multi-Dimensional Research Agendas Inventory – Revised, a widely used instrument for measuring strategic research agendas, by adding a new dimension, “Government,” and validating the instrument in a new context.
