    Almost closed 1-forms

We construct an algebraic almost closed 1-form with zero scheme not expressible (even locally) as the critical locus of a holomorphic function on a nonsingular variety. The result answers a question of Behrend-Fantechi. We correct here an error in our paper [MPT] where an incorrect construction with the same claimed properties was proposed.Comment: 16 page

Confronting the Misrepresentations about African Americans’ History within Curricula

I report how children’s and young adult non-fiction books, literature, and textbooks (mis)represent the Black Freedom Movement, which contains the centuries of slavery until beyond the Civil Rights Movement. If unchallenged by teachers, students will remain ignorant of slavery’s ubiquity and brutality, its centrality to America’s emerging economy, and enslaved African Americans’ humanity and resistance. Similar misrepresentations appear in Civil Rights-based curricula. Omission of the period after slavery before the 1950s and 1960s Civil Rights Movement leaves students oblivious to the racial terror, legislative disenfranchisement, and judicial re-enslavement. I demonstrate how teachers, parents, and students can first identify and then fill the gaps within misrepresentative curricula. Target Audience: Students, K-12 teachers, and Parent

In 2009 the national Russian VLBI observations were processed by the new correlator ARC (Astrometric Radiointerferometric Correlator). The ARC is a VSI-H correlator and equipped with Mark 5B playback terminals. During 2009 ARC was used to process a series of VLBI sessions, observed on stations Svetloe, Zelenchukskaya, and Badary. NGS files were formed, and EOP parameters were obtained by IAA RAS Analysis Center. The accuracies of the pole coordinates and UT1-UTC were 1-2 mas and 0.07-0.1 ms, respectively

In Sir James Frazers berühmten Buch “Der Goldene Zweig” von 1890, das großen Einfluß nicht nur auf die nachfolgende Generation von Ethnologen nahm, sondern auch Schriftsteller und Philosophen wie R. Kipling, Ezra Pound, D.H. Lawrence, T.S.

Little has been written on La escuela de Celestina y el hidalgo presumido (1620), one of the few comedies penned by Alonso Jerónimo de Salas Barbadillo. In this essay I read this piece as part of a tradition of parodies of the famous academic exercises known as gallos and vejámenes, so frequent in the universities of the time. Through humorous inversion, Salas leads us to formulate new questions on the role of high culture, on the nature of true knowledge and, ultimately, on the transmission of specific literary myths —a transmission that is here interrupted by the rewriting of the Celestinesque characterPoco se ha escrito sobre La escuela de Celestina y el hidalgo presumido (1620), una de las escasas comedias que nos ha dejado Alonso Jerónimo de Salas Barbadillo.
