    The Many Faces of FKBP51

    Get PDF
The FK506-binding protein 51 (FKBP51) has emerged as a key regulator of endocrine stress responses in mammals and as a potential therapeutic target for stress-related disorders (depression, post-traumatic stress disorder), metabolic disorders (obesity and diabetes) and chronic pain. Recently, FKBP51 has been implicated in several cellular pathways and numerous interacting protein partners have been reported. However, no consensus on the underlying molecular mechanisms has yet emerged. Here, we review the protein interaction partners reported for FKBP51, the proposed pathways involved, their relevance to FKBP51’s physiological function(s), the interplay with other FKBPs, and implications for the development of FKBP51-directed drugs

This study investigates how firms in the mobile gambling industry can develop long-term competitive advantages through utilizing firm specific resources and capabilities. The aim of this research is to connect classical theoretical knowledge with the challenges the modern industry of mobile gambling is facing. Earlier research within the subject are limited, however previously findings indicates that fast response time, logic site mapping and security are important factors when consumer are choosing supplier for mobile gambling. Data is collected through a consumer survey and interviews with three industry experts, moreover; a theoretical framework from previously conducted research are underpinning the study. The results show that firms should focus internal resources and capabilities to develop a superior technology. A superior technology can generate numerous of competitive advantages, as well as working as a leverage effect in other areas. Moreover, superior technology will also likely be sustainable over time by being governed by isolating mechanisms. Lower price is discussed as a competitive advantage in the mobile industry, however findings indicates several of long run negative effects enabled through a lower price. Future research needs to investigate how customization and dynamic offerings can optimize a firm’s profit. Future research should also investigate what kind of negative effects mobile gambling could have on the social welfare in terms of total effects

The importance of vernacular architecture as an integral part of our cultural heritage is often undervalued, and the management of rural constructions of heritage value often requires the application of more flexible and adjusted preservation principles compared to monumental assets. For vernacular architecture, the preservation and consolidation concern not only their physical substance but also their intangible values and purpose in society. More than other heritage values, the vernacular raises the question of prospective functions it can fulfill in contemporary societies without undermining its legacy. This work analyzes the topic by studying the case study of the dry docks on the Balearic Island of Formentera, including abundant documentation of traditional construction techniques and materials realized through a field study, followed by the assessment of threats to and opportunities for vernacular architecture on Formentera, closing with suggestions for the maintenance and potential functions of the dry docks. For this, a comparative case study was introduced: the capanni da pesca at the Adriatic coast of Italy. The suggestions focus on the importance of maintenance for rural heritage, expressed through the creation of a guide for owners of protected dry docks highlighting good and bad practice examples and recurrent works of care. Furthermore, the thesis seeks to raise awareness for the significance of landscape and social factors in the discourse about vernacular heritage sites. Ultimately, different outlines of tourism development are proposed. The idea is to explore rural and sustainable tourism as a tool for territory development and enhancement of the cultural heritage value by helping to prevent the destination's decline through careful evaluation of its limits of acceptable change and identifying beneficial, sustainable scenarios for the future of the heritage asset and the respective community

The main purpose with this thesis is to examine the compliance between lean and a company’s service business and further to advice changes for a service business which is more aligned with lean. The study will focus on a limited area of the service business, the routines and handling of keys and the work has been performed in company within the elevator and escalator industry, involved in the complete process from production to maintenance. The work will be conducted through interviews with employees with different positions and through a field study. At last a small benchmark will be conducted with companies facing same kind of issues regarding keys. The study shows that the service business has access to tools which applies to the lean philosophy, but in the organization in they are in some cases labeled differently. It can be established that these tools is not in use in the service business and furthermore that lean is not implemented. To align the business with lean it is insufficient to develop and have access to tools, for an implementation of lean a plan of how to implement lean must be developed, knowledge about lean and the tools and a commitment from managers and employees.   From interviews and study of the service business it emerge that lean service is more applicable to the key handling process than what’s been achieved today. The tools which have highest potential to improve the key handling is 5S to maintain routines and structure in the working environment, standardized work for creating routines and methods, commitment among employees and IT systems to improve dissemination of information

In Sweden, there are currently many ongoing city development projects that aim to improve the housing and work office situation. Due to the scope of these projects, they are generally divided into smaller stages. Within these stages there are many different entrepreneurs working on their own projects, but still share common ground for construction-related deliveries. However, there is currently a lack of incentive for the involved entrepreneurs to improve communication and coordination between themselves. The result of this leads to an increased difficulty to handle the logistics planning. As of late, some projects have an assigned work role, a stage coordinator, whose purpose is to communicate and coordinate with the involved entrepreneurs. However, the concept of this role hasn’t been sufficiently established within the construction sector yet. The concept is relatively new and because of this there hasn’t surfaced a proper working model yet. The purpose of this study is to examine and acquire knowledge about the underlying problems that reside between the entrepreneurs within the subject construction stage-coordination. The methodology of gathering information for the study was mainly carried out through interviews with professionals of the construction sector directly affiliated with the subject. Furthermore, the remaining information was gathered through literature about Lean, logistics and visual planning. Lastly, the remaining information were self-conducted study visits of affiliated stages. The results showed that there currently is very limited communication and coordination between the entrepreneurs. The respondents from the interviews claimed that there is a reluctance towards cooperating between the parties. The respondents explained that the reasoning behind this was that they wanted to conduct their own operations without having to involve other entrepreneurs. This usually leads to additional maintenance costs which they do not wish to be held accountable for, which they instead want the common client to be responsible over. However, they were positive towards utilisation of a visual planning software that could help them organize planning in-between themselves to help reduce unnecessary workload. When the conclusions for the above-mentioned information were made, the authors presented their own suggestions of how the visual planning software could be designed to alleviate communication and coordination in-between the entrepreneurs
