Durabilité de composites bois - polymers biodégradables Durability of Wood - biodegradable Polymer Composites.
International audienceCette étude porte sur la photodurabilité de matériaux entièrement biodégradables : des composites bois - polymères biodégradables. Les matrices polymères sont le poly(acide lactique), l'Ecoflex® et l'Ecovio®. Les charges sont différentes farines de peuplier dont certaines ont subi un traitement thermique appelé rétification, visant à diminuer leur hygroscopie et ainsi leur biodégradabilité. Ces mélanges (50/50) sont analysés par rhéométrie à l'état fondu et par analyse enthalpique différentielle (DSC) afin de caractériser leurs propriétés initiales. Ils sont ensuite soumis à un photovieillissement naturel et accéléré en enceinte et analysés de la même façon afin d'évaluer leur durabilité face à la lumière solaire. En effet, des mesures rhéologiques et thermiques vont nous permettre d'observer les changements intervenant au niveau moléculaire au cours de la dégradation et ainsi de proposer des mécanismes de photodégradation. // The topic of the study is the photoageing of completely biodegradable composites: Wood-biodegradable Polymer Composites. The polymer matrices are poly (lactic acid), Ecoflex®_and Ecovio®. The fillers are different poplar flours. Some of them have undergone a retification process: a thermal treatment. This process leads to chemical modification of wood which results in higher hydrophoby and thus to greater resistance against biodegradation. These blends (50/50) were analysed by melt rheological measurements and by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) to characterize their initial properties. In a second time, natural and artificial photoageing of these blends were carried out. Rheological and DSC measurements permit to find out their durability under UV-visible light. Indeed, these analyses allows us to observe molecular changes during degradation and therefore to determine photodegradationmechanism at work

Etant données les préoccupations environnementales actuelles, il est important de s'intéresser dés à présent aux matériaux entièrement biodégradables. C'est pourquoi nous étudions des mélanges composites polymères biodégradables – charges d'origine naturelle. Le projet est de découpler l'aspect photodégradation de l'aspect biodégradation afin d'obtenir à terme une durabilité contrôlée. Ce contrôle permettrait d'associer un matériau à une durée d'application et donc d'éliminer l'étape de recyclage
Etude rhéologique de nouveaux biocomposites bois - polymères biodégradables
L'étude porte sur la photodurabilité de composites entièrement biodégradables. Ils sont constitués de trois matrices polymère biodégradables (PLA, Ecoflex® et Ecovio®) mélangées avec différentes farines de bois dont certaines ont subi un traitement thermique visant à renforcer leurs propriétés hydrophobes. La rhéologie dynamique à l'état fondu a permis de caractériser initialement le comportement viscoélastique de ces matériaux mais également d'observer les coupures ou recombinaisons éventuelles des chaînes macromoléculaires intervenant lors de la dégradation photochimique
Assessment of plasma amyloid-β42/40 and cognitive decline among community-dwelling older adults
Importance: Plasma measurement of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides has been associated with cognitive function, but evidence of its ability to identify cognitive decline is still scarce.
Objective: To investigate the associations between plasma Aβ42/40 and cognitive decline over time among community-dwelling older adults with subjective memory concerns.
Design, Setting, and Participants: This multicenter cohort study used data from volunteers in the 5-year study Multidomain Alzheimer Preventive Trial (MAPT). Participants were aged 70 years or older and observed for a median (interquartile range) of 3.9 (2.0-4.0) years. Recruitment of participants started in May 2008 and ended in February 2011. Follow-up ended in April 2016. Data analysis was conducted from April to October 2020.
Exposure: Plasma Aβ42 and Aβ40 were measured at 12 months for 448 participants (92.8%) and at 24 months for the rest. The moment of Aβ assessment was defined as the baseline for this study.
Main Outcomes and Measures: Cognitive function was assessed at 12, 24, 36, 48, and 60 months by a composite cognitive score based on 4 tests; Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE); Clinical Dementia Rating, sum of boxes; and Alzheimer Disease Cooperative Study-Activities of Daily Living. Mixed-effect linear regressions were performed.
Results: A total of 483 participants (median [IQR] age, 76.0 [73.0-80.0]; 286 [59.2%] women) were analyzed. Of them, 161 (33.3%) were classified as low plasma Aβ42/40 (≤0.107). After adjusting for age, sex, education, body mass index, Geriatric Depression Scale score, apolipoprotein E ε4 genotype, and MAPT intervention groups, low plasma Aβ42/40 was associated with more pronounced decline in composite cognitive score (adjusted between-group mean difference: -0.20, 95% CI, -0.34 to -0.07; P = .004) and decline in MMSE score (adjusted between-group mean difference: -0.59; 95% CI, -1.07 to -0.11; P = .02) during the follow-up period compared with the group with an Aβ42/40 ratio greater than 0.107.
Conclusions and Relevance: In this study, low plasma Aβ42/40 was associated with more pronounced decline in cognitive function (measured by multiple outcomes) over time. Findings suggest that plasma Aβ42/40 may be used to identify people at risk of cognitive decline, being an alternative to more complex and expensive measures, such as positron emission tomography imaging or cerebrospinal fluid measurement

Cognitive impact of multidomain intervention and omega 3 according to blood Aβ42/40 ratio: A subgroup analysis from the randomized MAPT trial
BACKGROUND: In MAPT (Multidomain Alzheimer Preventive Trial), a cognitive effect of multidomain intervention (MI) was showed in non-demented subjects with positive amyloid PET. However, screening eligible patients for multidomain intervention by PET is difficult to generalize in real-world settings.
METHODS: MAPT study was a 3-year, randomized, placebo-controlled trial followed by a 2-year observational and optional extension. All participants were non-demented and randomly assigned (1:1:1:1) to the MI plus omega 3, MI plus placebo, omega 3 alone, or placebo alone group. The objectives were to assess the cognitive effect of MAPT interventions (omega 3 supplementation, MI, combined intervention) in non-demented subjects according to amyloid blood status at 12, 36, and 60 months. In this subgroup analysis (n = 483), amyloid status was defined by plasma Aβ42/40 ratio (cutoff ≤ 0.0107). The primary outcome measure was the change in cognitive composite score after a 1, 3, and 5-year clinical follow-up.
RESULTS: The intention-to-treat (ITT) population included 483 subjects (161 positive and 322 negative amyloid participants based on plasma Aβ42/40 ratio). In the positive amyloid ITT population, we showed a positive effect of MI plus omega 3 on the change in composite cognitive score in 12 (raw p = .0350, 0.01917, 95% CI = [0.0136 to 0.3699]) and 36 months (raw p = .0357, 0.2818, 95% CI = [0.0190 to 0.5446]). After correction of multiple comparisons and adjustments, these differences were not significant (adjusted p = .1144 and .0690). In the per-protocol positive amyloid group (n = 154), we observed a significant difference between the combined intervention and placebo groups at 12 (p = .0313, 0.2424, 0.0571 to 0.4276) and 36 months (p = .0195, 0.3747, 0.1055 to 0.6439) persisting after adjustment. In the ITT and per-protocol analyses, no cognitive effect was observed in the positive and negative amyloid group at 60-month visit.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest a benefit of MI plus omega 3 in positive blood amyloid subjects. This promising trend needs to be confirmed before using blood biomarkers for screening in preventive trials.

Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet and Incidence of Pre-Frailty and Frailty in Community-Dwelling Adults 70+: The 3-Year DO-HEALTH Study
The Mediterranean diet has been associated with many health benefits. Therefore, we investigated whether the degree of adherence to the Mediterranean diet at baseline, or changes in adherence over time, were associated with the incidence of pre-frailty or frailty in generally healthy older adults. This study used the DO-HEALTH trial data. We evaluated Mediterranean diet adherence with Panagiotakos’ MedDietScore at baseline and at 3-year follow-up; frailty was assessed annually with the Fried frailty phenotype. We used minimally and fully adjusted mixed logistic regression models to estimate the exposure–disease relationship. We included 1811 participants without frailty at baseline (mean age 74.7 years; 59.4% women). Baseline adherence, as reflected by the MedDietScore, was not associated with becoming pre-frail [OR(95%CI) = 0.93 (0.83–1.03) for five-point greater adherence] or frail [OR(95%CI) = 0.90 (0.73–1.12) for five points]. However, a five-point increase in the MedDietScore over three years was associated with lower odds of becoming pre-frail [OR(95%CI) = 0.77 (0.68–0.88)] and frail [OR(95%CI) = 0.77 (0.64–0.92)]. In generally healthy and active older adults, baseline adherence to the Mediterranean diet was not associated with the incidence of pre-frailty or frailty over a 3-year follow-up. A bloodâ based nutritional risk index explains cognitive enhancement and decline in the multidomain Alzheimer prevention trial
IntroductionMultinutrient approaches may produce more robust effects on brain health through interactive qualities. We hypothesized that a bloodâ based nutritional risk index (NRI) including three biomarkers of diet quality can explain cognitive trajectories in the multidomain Alzheimer prevention trial (MAPT) over 3â years.MethodsThe NRI included erythrocyte nâ 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (nâ 3 PUFA 22:6nâ 3 and 20:5nâ 3), serum 25â hydroxyvitamin D, and plasma homocysteine. The NRI scores reflect the number of nutritional risk factors (0â 3). The primary outcome in MAPT was a cognitive composite Z score within each participant that was fit with linear mixedâ effects models.ResultsEighty percent had at lease one nutritional risk factor for cognitive decline (NRI â ¥1: 573 of 712). Prevalence of polypharmacy in community-dwelling older adults from seven centres in five European countries : A cross-sectional study of DO-HEALTH
Objective To investigate the prevalence of polypharmacy and characteristics associated with polypharmacy in older adults from seven European cities.
Design Cross-sectional study of baseline data from DO-HEALTH.
Setting and participants DO-HEALTH enrolled 2157 community-dwelling adults age 70 and older from seven centres in Europe. Participants were excluded if they had major health problems or Mini-Mental State Examination Score <24 at baseline.
Primary outcome measures Extensive information on prescription and over-the-counter medications were recorded. Polypharmacy was defined as the concomitant use of five or more medications, excluding vitamins or dietary supplements. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression was used to test the association of sociodemographic factors (age, sex, years of education, living situation and city) and health-related indicators (number of comorbidities, cognitive function, frailty status, body mass index (BMI), prior fall, self-rated health and smoking status) with polypharmacy.
Results 27.2% of participants reported polypharmacy ranging from 16.4% in Geneva to 60.8% in Coimbra. In the multivariable logistic regression analyses, older age (OR 1.07; 95% CI 1.04 to 1.10), greater BMI (OR 1.09; 95% CI 1.06 to 1.12) and increased number of comorbidities (OR 2.13; 95% CI 1.92 to 2.36) were associated with polypharmacy. Women were less likely to report polypharmacy than men (OR 0.65; 95% CI 0.51 to 0.84). In comparison to participants from Zurich, participants from Coimbra were more likely to report polypharmacy (OR 2.36; 95% CI 1.56 to 3.55), while participants from Geneva or Toulouse were less likely to report polypharmacy ((OR 0.36; 95% CI 0.22 to 0.59 and OR 0.64; 95% CI 0.42 to 0.96), respectively). Living situation, smoking status, years of education, prior fall, cognitive function, self-rated health and frailty status were not significantly associated with polypharmacy.
Conclusion Polypharmacy is common among relatively healthy older adults, with moderate variability across seven European cities. Independent of several confounders, being a woman, older age, greater BMI and greater number of comorbidities were associated with increased odds for polypharmacy.
