    An augmented lagrangian method for sparse SAR imaging

    In this paper, we present a solution to the constrained l1-norm minimization problem for sparse SAR imaging. The technique we present relies on recent advances in the solution of optimization problems, based on Augmented Lagrangian Methods (ALMs), namely the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers. Here, we present an application of C-SALSA (an ALM for constrained optimization problems) to SAR imaging, and introduce a new weighting scheme to improve the sparsity of the reconstructions. We then compare the performances of several techniques to understand the effectiveness of ALMs in the context of SAR imaging

    Cataloged from PDF version of article.Novel purine ribonucleoside analogues (9-13) containing a 4-substituted piperazine in the substituent at N-6 were synthesized and evaluated for their cytotoxicity on Huh7, HepG2, FOCUS, Mahlavu liver, MCF7 breast, and HCT116 colon carcinoma cell lines. The purine nucleoside analogues were analyzed initially by an anticancer drug-screening method based on a sulforhodamine B assay. Two nucleoside derivatives with promising cytotoxic activities (11 and 12) were further analyzed on the hepatoma cells. The N-6-(4-Trifluoromethylphenyl)piperazine analogue 11 displayed the best antitumor activity, with IC50 values between 5.2 and 9.2 mu M. Similar to previously described nucleoside analogues, compound 11 also interferes with cellular ATP reserves, possibly through influencing cellular kinase activities. Furthermore, the novel nucleoside analogue 11 was shown to induce senescence-associated cell death, as demonstrated by the SA beta-gal assay. The senescence-dependent cytotoxic effect of 11 was also confirmed through phosphorylation of the Rb protein by p15(INK4b) overexpression in the presence of this compound

    In this paper, the pulse shape design for various communication systems including PAM, FSK, and PSK is considered. The pulse is designed by imposing constraints on the time and frequency domains constraints on the autocorrelation function of the pulse shape. Intersymbol interference, finite duration and spectral mask restrictions are a few examples leading to convex sets in L 2. The autocorrelation function of the pulse is obtained by performing iterative projections onto convex sets. After this step, the minimum phase or maximum phase pulse producing the autocorrelation function is obtained by cepstral deconvolution

    An augmented Lagrangian method for image reconstruction with multiple features

    We present an Augmented Lagrangian Method (ALM) for solving image reconstruction problems with a cost function consisting of multiple regularization functions with a data fidelity constraint. The presented technique is used to solve inverse problems related to image reconstruction, including compressed sensing formulations. Our contributions include an improvement for reducing the number of computations required by an existing ALM method, an approach for obtaining the proximal mapping associated with p-norm based regularizers, and lastly a particular ALM for the constrained image reconstruction problem with a hybrid cost function including a weighted sum of the p-norm and the total variation of the image. We present examples from Synthetic Aperture Radar imaging and Computed Tomography

    An augmented Lagrangian method for autofocused compressed SAR imaging

    We present an autofocus algorithm for Compressed SAR Imaging. The technique estimates and corrects for 1-D phase errors in the phase history domain, based on prior knowledge that the reflectivity field is sparse, as in the case of strong scatterers against a weakly-scattering background. The algorithm relies on the Sparsity Driven Autofocus (SDA) method and Augmented Lagrangian Methods (ALM), particularly Alternating Directions Method of Multipliers (ADMM). In particular, we propose an ADMM-based algorithm that we call Autofocusing Iteratively Re-Weighted Augmented Lagrangian Method (AIRWALM) to solve a constrained formulation of the sparsity driven autofocus problem with an ℓp-norm, p ≤ 1 cost function. We then compare the performance of the proposed algorithm's performance to Phase Gradient Autofocus (PGA) and SDA [2] in terms of autofocusing capability, phase error correction, and computation time

This problem can be solved with the method of projections onto convex sets, with the convergence of the iterative algorithm being assured.     A fast augmented Lagrangian approach for compressed SAR imaging

    In this paper we present an accelerated Augmented Lagrangian Method for the solution of constrained convex optimization problems in the Basis Pursuit De-Noising (BPDN) form. The technique relies on on Augmented Lagrangian Methods (ALMs), particularly the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM). Here, we present an application of the Constrained Split Augmented Lagrangian Shrinkage Algorithm (C-SALSA) to SAR imaging, while introducing a method to handle complex SAR imagery in the constrained Total Variation Minimization formulation. In addition, we apply acceleration schemes to C-SALSA to obtain faster convergence of the method; such as used in Fast ADMM methods proposed by Goldstein et al., in the Fast Iterative Shrinkage-Thresholding Algorithm (FISTA) proposed by Beck and Teboulle, and in NESTA proposed by Becker et al. We present examples to illustrate the effectiveness of Accelerated C-SALSA in the context of SAR imaging

    Liver cancer cells are sensitive to Lanatoside C induced cell death independent of their PTEN status

    Background Hepatocellular carcinoma is the second deadliest cancer with limited treatment options. Loss of PTEN causes the P13K/Akt pathway to be hyperactive which contributes to cell survival and resistance to therapeutics in various cancers, including the liver cancer. Hence molecules targeting this pathway present good therapeutic strategies for liver cancer. Hypothesis It was previously reported that Cardiac glycosides possessed antitumor activity by inducing apoptosis of multiple cancer cells through oxidative stress. However, whether Cardiac glycoside Lanatoside C can induce oxidative stress in liver cancer cells and induce cell death both in vitro and in vivo remains unknown. Methods Cell viability was measured by SRB assay. Cell death analysis was investigated by propidium iodide staining with flow cytometry and PARP cleavage. DCFH-DA staining and cytometry were used for intracellular ROS measurement. Protein levels were analyzed by western blot analysis. Antitumor activity was investigated on mice xenografts in vivo. Results In this study, we found that Cardiac glycosides, particularly Lanatoside C from Digitalis ferruginea could significantly inhibit PTEN protein adequate Huh7 and PTEN deficient Mahlavu human liver cancer cell proliferation by the induction of apoptosis and G2/M arrest in the cells. Lanatoside C was further shown to induce oxidative stress and alter ERK and Akt pathways. Consequently, JNK1 activation resulted in extrinsic apoptotic pathway stimulation in both cells while JNK2 activation involved in the inhibition of cell survival only in PTEN deficient cells. Furthermore, nude mice xenografts followed by MRI showed that Lanatoside C caused a significant decrease in the tumor size. In this study apoptosis induction by Lanatoside C was characterized through ROS altered ERK and Akt pathways in both PTEN adequate epithelial and deficient mesenchymal liver cancer cells. Conclusion The results indicated that Lanatoside C could be contemplated in liver cancer therapeutics, particularly in PTEN deficient tumors. This is due to Lanatoside C's stress inducing action on ERK and Akt pathways through differential activation of JNK1 and JNK2 by GSK3β. © 2015 Elsevier GmbH. © 2016 Elsevier GmbH. Primary tracheal carcinoma is one of very rarely seen tumors and the rate of its being seen makes up approximately % 0.2 of all tumors of respiratory tract. The patient, 28 years old, who has 28-weeks-pregnant, was diagnosed with primary tracheal adenocystic carcinoma. Patient was made operation as thoracotomy and tracheal tumor was removed at the 28th week of pregnancy. Patient was delivered with sectio abdominale at the 39th week of pregnancy. Primary tracheal adenocystic carcinoma is very rarely seen tumors and it is the first tracheal ACC with pregnancy case in literature to have been detected and surgically treated during pregnancy.
