    M-Theory in the Gaugeon Formalism

In this paper we will analyse the Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena (ABJM) theory in N=1\mathcal{N}=1 superspace formalism. We then study the quantum gauge transformations for this ABJM theory in gaugeon formalism. We will also analyse the extended BRST symmetry for this ABJM theory in gaugeon formalism and show that these BRST transformations for this theory are nilpotent and this in turn leads to the unitary evolution of the S\mathcal{S}-matrix.Comment: 8 pages, 0 figures, accepted for publication in Comm. Taking off the square root of Nambu-Goto action and obtaining Filippov-Lie algebra gauge theory action

We propose a novel prescription to take off the square root of Nambu-Goto action for a p-brane, which generalizes the Brink-Di Vecchia-Howe-Tucker or also known as Polyakov method. With an arbitrary decomposition as d+n=p+1, our resulting action is a modified d-dimensional Polyakov action which is gauged and possesses a Nambu n-bracket squared potential. We first spell out how the (p+1)-dimensional diffeomorphism is realized in the lower dimensional action. Then we discuss a possible gauge fixing of it to a direct product of dd-dimensional diffeomorphism and n-dimensional volume preserving diffeomorphism. We show that the latter naturally leads to a novel Filippov-Lie n-algebra based gauge theory action in d-dimensions.Comment: 1+13 pages, No figure; Expanded, published version. Title change

Risk profiles and one-year outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in India: Insights from the GARFIELD-AF Registry.

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: The Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD-Atrial Fibrillation (GARFIELD-AF) is an ongoing prospective noninterventional registry, which is providing important information on the baseline characteristics, treatment patterns, and 1-year outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). This report describes data from Indian patients recruited in this registry. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 52,014 patients with newly diagnosed AF were enrolled globally; of these, 1388 patients were recruited from 26 sites within India (2012-2016). In India, the mean age was 65.8 years at diagnosis of NVAF. Hypertension was the most prevalent risk factor for AF, present in 68.5% of patients from India and in 76.3% of patients globally (P < 0.001). Diabetes and coronary artery disease (CAD) were prevalent in 36.2% and 28.1% of patients as compared with global prevalence of 22.2% and 21.6%, respectively (P < 0.001 for both). Antiplatelet therapy was the most common antithrombotic treatment in India. With increasing stroke risk, however, patients were more likely to receive oral anticoagulant therapy [mainly vitamin K antagonist (VKA)], but average international normalized ratio (INR) was lower among Indian patients [median INR value 1.6 (interquartile range {IQR}: 1.3-2.3) versus 2.3 (IQR 1.8-2.8) (P < 0.001)]. Compared with other countries, patients from India had markedly higher rates of all-cause mortality [7.68 per 100 person-years (95% confidence interval 6.32-9.35) vs 4.34 (4.16-4.53), P < 0.0001], while rates of stroke/systemic embolism and major bleeding were lower after 1 year of follow-up. CONCLUSION: Compared to previously published registries from India, the GARFIELD-AF registry describes clinical profiles and outcomes in Indian patients with AF of a different etiology. The registry data show that compared to the rest of the world, Indian AF patients are younger in age and have more diabetes and CAD. Patients with a higher stroke risk are more likely to receive anticoagulation therapy with VKA but are underdosed compared with the global average in the GARFIELD-AF. Big Data Analytics In The Public Sector: Improving The Strategic Planning In World Class Universities

    No full text
This paper presents an application in Information Fusion related to Analytics and fusion of Big Data. The approach involves the analysis of specific aspects of the management of a Brazilian university and the proposition of a new framework that may be useful mainly for universities focused on improving their strategic planning while having excellence in operational execution. The framework intends to be used for the development of new decision support systems that integrate "past data" with "real time data". The research methodology emphasizes induction with the collection of qualitative data in order to move from observed facts to theory. The main result is the framework itself while future work may involve the development and the validation of the new system. © 2013 IEEE.155162Beijing Jiaotong University,Embedded and Pervasive Computing Lab (EPIC),University of LouisvilleAndler, S., Brohede, M., (2008) Information Fusion Research Program - Proposal, , http://www.his.se/english/research/infofusion/research/proposal/, University of Skövde. A Mathematical Model For Determining Timetables That Minimizes The Number Of Students With Conflicting Schedules

    No full text
With the increasing complexity of educational initiatives, several challenges arise as to appropriately allocate human and material resources or how to select alternative investments within a portfolio. Due to the complexity, solutions based on intuition are risky, which leads to a search for less intuitive and more reliable ways of solving educational problems. An engineering approach to the problem may lead to operations research mathematical modeling as a way to help on finding the solution for timetabling. In this case, a timetable is a schedule or, more precisely, a list or table of events arranged according to the time when they take place. This text features new and useful software to optimize the use of human resources. The software is based on a mathematical model for determining the timetable while minimizing the number of students with conflicting schedules. © 2013 DIME UNIVERSITÀ DI GENOVA.619624Al-Yakoob, S.M., Sherali, H.D., A column generation mathematical programming approach for a class- faculty assignment problem with preferences (2013) Computational Management Science, pp. 1-22. , to appear inAl-Yakoob, S.M., Sherali, H.D., Al-Jazzaf, M., A mixed-integer mathematical modeling approach to exam timetabling (2010) Computational Management Science, 7 (1), pp. 19-46Azevedo, A.T., Ribeiro, C.M., Sena, G.J.D., Chaves, A.A., Neto, L.L.S., Moretti, A.C., Solving the 3D container ship loading planning problem by representation by rules and beam search (2012) IC'ORES, pp. 132-141Deitel, H.M., Deitel, P., (2006) J. Assigning Classes To Teachers In Universities Via Mathematical Modelling: Using Beam Search Method And Simulation In Java

    No full text
In universities, before the beginning of each school year, it is held the distribution of classes among the available teachers. For such task, different constraints must be fulfilled like preventing a teacher to teach in two different places at the same time and avoid solutions in which some teachers have more class hours than others. This process, if performed manually, is time consuming and does not allow viewing other combinations of assignment of classes to teachers. In addition, it is subject to error. This study aims to develop a decision support tool for the problem of assigning teachers to classes in universities. The project includes the development of a computer program using the concepts of object orientation as a way to implement a search algorithm called Beam Search which explores the combinatorial nature of the problem. The programming language used is Java and the program has a graphical interface for insertion and manipulation of the relevant data. © 2013 DIME UNIVERSITÀ DI GENOVA.577586Al-Yakoob, S.M., Sherali, H.D., A column generation mathematical programming approach for a classfaculty assignment problem with preferences (2013) Computational Management Science, pp. 1-22. , to appear inAl-Yakoob, S.M., Sherali, H.D., Al-Jazzaf, M., A mixed-integer mathematical modeling approach to exam timetabling (2010) Computational Management Science, 7 (1), pp. 19-46Azevedo, A.T., Ribeiro, C.M., Sena, G.J.D., Chaves, A.A., Neto, L.L.S., Moretti, A.C., Solving the 3D container ship loading planning problem by representation by rules and beam search (2012) ICORES, pp. 132-141Deitel, H.M., Deitel, P.J., (2006) Java: How to Programm, , 6. ed. Imprecise Computation As An Enabler For Complex And Time Critical Hla Simulation Networks

    No full text
A trend over the past years is that simulation systems for training are being connected in simulation networks, allowing the interaction of teams spread in distributed sites. By combining interconnected simulation systems the simulation complexity increases and may affect time-critical simulation tasks in a negative way. As a consequence, the training simulation objectives may not be met. The same problem may occur when performing, for example, mission rehearsal on site, since available computation resources are usually very limited in this scenario, or for a joint fires scenario, where the large and complex functional chain (including intelligence, C2, forward observer, pilots, etc.) may overload existing resources. In this work, the technique of imprecise computation in real-time systems (ICRS) to preserve time-critical simulation tasks is presented. The ICRS technique allows time-critical tasks to produce quicker solutions for approximate results and saves computational resources. This paper discusses the main advantages of the ICRS technique by a review of the commonly used optimization concepts built upon imprecise computation field. The paper ends with presenting a work-in-progress: An architectural solution for aligning ICRS with the High Level Architecture (HLA), standardized as the IEEE 1516-series.171179Steed, A., Oliveira, M., (2009) Networked Graphics: Building Networked Games and Virtual Environments, , Morgan-KaufmanStahre, B., Raalte, S.V., Heldal, I., Sketching techniques in virtual reality: Evaluation of texturing styles in an urban planning model (2008) Proceedings of VSMM 2008, pp. 230-238. , CyprusSchricker, B.C., Van Der Lippe, S.R., Using the high level architecture to implement selective- fidelity (2004) Proceedings of the 37th Annual Simulation Symposium (ANSS'04), 8p. , USAGross, D.C., (1999) Report from the Fidelity Implementation Study Group, , SISO-REF-002-1999Liu, J.W.S., Lin, K.J., Shih, W.K., Yu, A.C., Algorithms for scheduling imprecise computations (1991) IEEE Computer, 24 (5), pp. 58-68Liu, J.W.S., Shih, W.K., Lin, K.J., Bettati, R., Chung, J.Y., Imprecise computations (1994) Proceedings of IEEE, 82 (1), pp. 83-94Gao, K., Zhang, Y., He, S., Gao, W., Imprecise scheduling on scalable media stream delivery (2003) Proceedings of ICICS-PCM, 3, pp. 1351-1355Breuer, M.A., Multi-media applications and imprecise computation (2005) Proceedings of the 8th Euromicro Conference on Digital System Design - DSD, pp. 2-7Millan-Lopez, V., Feng, W., Liu, J.W.S., Using the imprecise-computation technique for congestion control on a real-time traffic switching element (1994) International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Systems - ICPADS, pp. 202-208Chen, X., Cheng, A.M.K., An imprecise algorithm for real-time compressed image and video transmission (1997) Sixth International Conference on Computer Communications and Networks, pp. 390-397Tung, L.P., Chen, J.M., Hsu, W.F., Shih, W.K., An imprecise computation model in reducing power consumption of flash memory for portable devices (2004) Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference - COMPSAC, pp. 62-63Nakanishi, F., Hiraike, S., Inoue, S., Kakuda, Y., Toda, K., A flexible scheduling for automobile control using imprecise computation and its fundamental evaluation (2000) Proc. 6th IEEE International Conference on Complex Computer System, pp. 210-217. , WashingtonMöller, B., Johansson, M., Hla evolved hands-on (2014) Pitch Technologies AB, 211pGustavsson, P.M., Björk Å., Brax, C., Planstedt, T., Towards service oriented simulations (2004) Falls Simulation Interoperability Workshop, 14p. , Orlando, Florida U.S.ASzwarcman, D., Feijó, B., Costa, M., Goal-oriented dead reckoning for autonomous characters (2001) Computers & Graphics, 25 (6), pp. 999-101
