Neighbourhood detection and indentification of spatio-temporal dynamical systems using a coarse-to-fine approach
A novel approach to the determination of the neighbourhood and the identification of spatio-temporal dynamical systems is investigated. It is shown that thresholding to convert the pattern to a binary pattern and then applying cellular automata (CA) neighbourhood detection methods can provide an initial estimate of the neighbourhood. A coupled map lattice model can then be identified using the CA detected neighbourhood as the initial conditions. This provides a coarse-to-fine approach for neighbourhood detection and identification of coupled map lattice models. Three examples are used to demonstrate the application of the new approach
Identification of Spatio-Temporal Systems Using Multi-resolution Wavelet Models
A novel modelling structure for identifying spatio-temporal systems is proposed based on multi-resolution wavelet decompositions. Two classes of spatio-temporal systems, coupled map lattices and cellular automata, are considered and the new modelling approach is applied to identify these systems. Several examples are provided to demonstrate the applicability and effectiveness of the new identification procedure
Multiplicity distributions inside parton cascades developing in a medium
The explanation of the suppression of high-pT hadron yields at RHIC in terms
of jet-quenching implies that the multiplicity distributions of particles
inside a jet and jet-like particle correlations differ strongly in
nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC or at the LHC from those observed at e+e- or
hadron colliders. We present a framework for describing the medium-induced
modification, which has a direct interpretation in terms of a probabilistic
medium-modified parton cascade, and which treats leading and subleading partons
on an equal footing. We show that our approach can account for the strong
suppression of single inclusive hadron spectra measured in Au-Au collisions at
RHIC, and that this implies a characteristic distortion of the single inclusive
distribution of soft partons inside the jet. We determine, as a function of the
jet energy, to what extent the soft fragments within a jet can be measured

Design of a multiuser virtual trade fair using a game engine
The current world economic situation makes it necessary to develop new ways of establishing commercial relationships. One possible solution is to explore the advantages of virtual worlds, and for this reason online virtual trade fairs are becoming more popular in the business world. They enable companies to establish a trade relationship with their customers without the need to visit them in person. This is very attractive for exhibitors because it can save them money, which is a priority for many companies today. In this line, this article presents a multiuser virtual trade fair developed using 3D game engine technologys. Users represented by avatars can interact with each other while they are visiting the virtual fair, which has some interactive objects included in the stands to provide information about the exhibitors. This virtual world is accessible online, and visitors only require a plug-in on their computers to be able to enter the virtual world. The game technology makes it possible to obtain a high degree of realism: very real lighting, cast shadows, collision detection, etc. Moreover, the virtual world presented builds the 3D objects automatically. Participants in the trade fair can customize their virtual stand and the application will generate the code necessary for its inclusion in the rendered virtual world.This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology project TIN2010-21089-C03-03. Search for Invisible Decays of and in and
Using a data sample of decays collected with the BES
II detector at the BEPC, searches for invisible decays of and
in to and are performed.
The signals, which are reconstructed in final states, are used
to tag the and decays. No signals are found for the
invisible decays of either or , and upper limits at the 90%
confidence level are determined to be for the ratio
and for . These are the first

Observation of Two New N* Peaks in J/psi -> and Decays
The system in decays of is limited to be
isospin 1/2 by isospin conservation. This provides a big advantage in studying
compared with and experiments which mix
isospin 1/2 and 3/2 for the system. Using 58 million decays
collected with the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand
events are obtained. Besides two well known
peaks at 1500 MeV and 1670 MeV, there are two new, clear peaks in
the invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV and 2030 MeV. They are the
first direct observation of the peak and a long-sought "missing"
peak above 2 GeV in the invariant mass spectrum. A simple
Breit-Wigner fit gives the mass and width for the peak as MeV and MeV, and for the new peak above 2 GeV
as MeV and MeV, respectively
Nonlinear Dynamical Stability of Newtonian Rotating White Dwarfs and Supermassive Stars
We prove general nonlinear stability and existence theorems for rotating star
solutions which are axi-symmetric steady-state solutions of the compressible
isentropic Euler-Poisson equations in 3 spatial dimensions. We apply our
results to rotating and non-rotating white dwarf, and rotating high density
supermassive (extreme relativistic) stars, stars which are in convective
equilibrium and have uniform chemical composition. This paper is a continuation
of our earlier work ([28])
Comparative transcriptome analysis identified candidate genes for late leaf spot resistance and cause of defoliation in groundnut
Late leaf spot (LLS) caused by fungus Nothopassalora personata in groundnut is responsible for up to 50% yield loss. To dissect the complex nature of LLS resistance, comparative transcriptome analysis was performed using resistant (GPBD 4), susceptible (TAG 24) and a resistant introgression line (ICGV 13208) and identified a total of 12,164 and 9954 DEGs (differentially expressed genes) respectively in A- and B-subgenomes of tetraploid groundnut. There were 135 and 136 unique pathways triggered in A- and B-subgenomes, respectively, upon N. personata infection. Highly upregulated putative disease resistance genes, an RPP-13 like (Aradu.P20JR) and a NBS-LRR (Aradu.Z87JB) were identified on chromosome A02 and A03, respectively, for LLS resistance. Mildew resistance Locus (MLOs)-like proteins, heavy metal transport proteins, and ubiquitin protein ligase showed trend of upregulation in susceptible genotypes, while tetratricopeptide repeats (TPR), pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR), chitinases, glutathione S-transferases, purple acid phosphatases showed upregulation in resistant genotypes. However, the highly expressed ethylene responsive factor (ERF) and ethylene responsive nuclear protein (ERF2), and early responsive dehydration gene (ERD) might be related to the possible causes of defoliation in susceptible genotypes. The identified disease resistance genes can be deployed in genomics-assisted breeding for development of LLS resistant cultivars to reduce the yield loss in groundnut
Existence and Nonlinear Stability of Rotating Star Solutions of the Compressible Euler-Poisson Equations
We prove existence of rotating star solutions which are steady-state
solutions of the compressible isentropic Euler-Poisson (EP) equations in 3
spatial dimensions, with prescribed angular momentum and total mass. This
problem can be formulated as a variational problem of finding a minimizer of an
energy functional in a broader class of functions having less symmetry than
those functions considered in the classical Auchmuty-Beals paper. We prove the
nonlinear dynamical stability of these solutions with perturbations having the
same total mass and symmetry as the rotating star solution. We also prove local
in time stability of W^{1, \infty}(\RR^3) solutions where the perturbations
are entropy-weak solutions of the EP equations. Finally, we give a uniform (in
time) a-priori estimate for entropy-weak solutions of the EP equations
Magnetic Field Structures in a Facular Region Observed by THEMIS and Hinode
The main objective of this paper is to build and compare vector magnetic maps
obtained by two spectral polarimeters, i.e. THEMIS/MTR and Hinode SOT/SP, using
two inversion codes (UNNOFIT and MELANIE) based on the Milne-Eddington solar
atmosphere model. To this end, we used observations of a facular region within
active region NOAA 10996 on 23 May 2008, and found consistent results
concerning the field strength, azimuth and inclination distributions. Because
SOT/SP is free from the seeing effect and has better spatial resolution, we
were able to resolve small magnetic polarities with sizes of 1" to 2", and we
could detect strong horizontal magnetic fields, which converge or diverge in
negative or positive facular polarities. These findings support models which
suggest the existence of small vertical flux tube bundles in faculae. A new
method is proposed to get the relative formation heights of the multi-lines
observed by MTR assuming the validity of a flux tube model for the faculae. We
found that the Fe 1 6302.5 \AA line forms at a greater atmospheric height than
