Device calibrates vibration transducer at amplitudes up to 20 g
A piezoelectric transducer provides accurate calibration of vibration amplitudes to 20 g. The calibration system uses an electromagnetically driven resonant beam to generate mechanical vibrations at a fixed frequency
Improved manual radio frequency direction finder
Antenna loop direction finder, consisting of two separate loops mounted rigidly together at right angles to each other, requires single rotation for operation. The loops, one for bearing, the other for sensing, are rotated manually. Sensing loop, in conjunction with nondirectional antenna, produces signal with directional pattern
Thermoset-thermoplastic aromatic polyamide containing N-propargyl groups
The compounds of the class of aromatic polyamides useful as matrix resins in the manufacture of composites or laminate fabrication were developed. The process for preparing this thermoplastic-thermoset polyamide system involves incorporating a latent crosslinking moiety along the backbone of the polyamide to improve the temperature range of fabrication thereof wherein the resin softens at a relatively low temperature (approx. 154 C) and subsequently sets-up or undergoes crosslinking when subjected to higher temperature (approx. 280 C)
Shuttle system ascent aerodynamic and plume heating
The shuttle program provided a challenge to the aerothermodynamicist due to the complexity of the flow field around the vehicle during ascent, since the configuration causes multiple shock interactions between the elements. Wind tunnel tests provided data for the prediction of the ascent design heating environment which involves both plume and aerodynamic heating phenomena. The approach for the heating methodology based on ground test firings and the use of the wind tunnel data to formulate the math models is discussed
Development of a mechatronic sorting system for removing contaminants from wool
Automated visual inspection (AVI) systems have been
extended to many fields, such as agriculture and the food, plastic
and textile industries. Generally, most visual systems only inspect
product defects, and then analyze and grade them due to the lack
of any sorting function. This main reason rests with the difficulty of
using the image data in real time. However, it is increasingly important
to either sort good products from bad or grade products into
separate groups usingAVI systems. This article describes the development
of a mechatronic sorting system and its integration with a
vision system for automatically removing contaminants from wool
in real time. The integration is implemented by a personal computer,
which continuously processes live images under the Windows
2000 operating system. The developed real-time sorting approach
is also applicable to many other AVI systems
Time Evolution of Entropy in Gravitational Collapse
We study the time evolution of the entropy of a collapsing spherical domain
wall, from the point of view of an asymptotic observer, by investigating the
entropy of the entire system (i.e. domain wall and radiation) and induced
radiation alone during the collapse. By taking the difference, we find the
entropy of the collapsing domain wall, since this is the object which will form
a black hole. We find that for large values of time (times larger than
), the entropy of the collapsing domain wall is a constant,
which is of the same order as the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure
