Massless Thirring model in canonical quantization scheme
It is shown that the exact solvability of the massless Thirring model in the
canonical quantization scheme originates from the intrinsic linearizability of
its Heisenberg equations in the method of dynamical mappings. The corresponding
role of inequivalent representations of free massless Dirac field is

A Texture Bestiary
Textures are topologically nontrivial field configurations which can exist in
a field theory in which a global symmetry group is broken to a subgroup
, if the third homotopy group \p3 of is nontrivial. We compute this
group for a variety of choices of and , revealing what symmetry breaking

Using self-definition to predict the influence of procedural justice on organizational, interpersonal, and job/task-oriented citizenship behaviors
An integrative self-definition model is proposed to improve our understanding of how procedural justice affects different outcome modalities in organizational behavior. Specifically, it is examined whether the strength of different levels of self-definition (collective, relational, and individual) each uniquely interact with procedural justice to predict organizational, interpersonal, and job/task-oriented citizenship behaviors, respectively. Results from experimental and (both single and multisource) field data consistently revealed stronger procedural justice effects (1) on organizational-oriented citizenship behavior among those who define themselves strongly in terms of organizational characteristics, (2) on interpersonal-oriented citizenship behavior among those who define themselves strongly in terms of their interpersonal relationships, and (3) on job/task-oriented citizenship behavior among those who define themselves weakly in terms of their distinctiveness or uniqueness. We discuss the relevance of these results with respect to how employees can be motivated most effectively in organizational settings
Frequency of GP communication addressing the patient's resources and coping strategies in medical interviews: a video-based observational study
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>There is increasing focus on patient-centred communicative approaches in medical consultations, but few studies have shown the extent to which patients' positive coping strategies and psychological assets are addressed by general practitioners (GPs) on a regular day at the office. This study measures the frequency of GPs' use of questions and comments addressing their patients' coping strategies or resources.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Twenty-four GPs were video-recorded in 145 consultations. The consultations were coded using a modified version of the Roter Interaction Analysis System. In this study, we also developed four additional coding categories based on cognitive therapy and solution-focused therapy: attribution, resources, coping, and solution-focused techniques.</p> <p>The reliability between coders was established, a factor analysis was applied to test the relationship between the communication categories, and a tentative validating exercise was performed by reversed coding.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Cohen's kappa was 0.52 between coders. Only 2% of the utterances could be categorized as resource or coping oriented. Six GPs contributed 59% of these utterances. The factor analysis identified two factors, one task oriented and one patient oriented.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The frequency of communication about coping and resources was very low. Communication skills training for GPs in this field is required. Further validating studies of this kind of measurement tool are warranted.</p
Gravity, Lorentz Violation, and the Standard Model
The role of the gravitational sector in the Lorentz- and CPT-violating
Standard-Model Extension (SME) is studied. A framework is developed for
addressing this topic in the context of Riemann-Cartan spacetimes, which
include as limiting cases the usual Riemann and Minkowski geometries. The
methodology is first illustrated in the context of the QED extension in a
Riemann-Cartan background. The full SME in this background is then considered,
and the leading-order terms in the SME action involving operators of mass
dimension three and four are constructed. The incorporation of arbitrary
Lorentz and CPT violation into general relativity and other theories of gravity
based on Riemann-Cartan geometries is discussed. The dominant terms in the
effective low-energy action for the gravitational sector are provided, thereby
completing the formulation of the leading-order terms in the SME with gravity.
Explicit Lorentz symmetry breaking is found to be incompatible with generic
Riemann-Cartan geometries, but spontaneous Lorentz breaking evades this

On supersymmetric quantum mechanics
This paper constitutes a review on N=2 fractional supersymmetric Quantum
Mechanics of order k. The presentation is based on the introduction of a
generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra W_k. It is shown how a general Hamiltonian
can be associated with the algebra W_k. This general Hamiltonian covers various
supersymmetrical versions of dynamical systems (Morse system, Poschl-Teller
system, fractional supersymmetric oscillator of order k, etc.). The case of
ordinary supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics corresponds to k=2. A connection
between fractional supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics and ordinary supersymmetric
Quantum Mechanics is briefly described. A realization of the algebra W_k, of
the N=2 supercharges and of the corresponding Hamiltonian is given in terms of

Expansion for Excited Baryons
We derive consistency conditions which constrain the possible form of the
strong couplings of the excited baryons to the pions. The consistency
conditions follow from requiring the pion-excited baryon scattering amplitudes
to satisfy the large-N_c Witten counting rules and are analogous to consistency
conditions used by Dashen, Jenkins and Manohar and others for s-wave baryons.
The consistency conditions are explicitly solved, giving the most general
allowed form of the strong vertices for excited baryons in the large-N_c limit.
We show that the solutions to the large-N_c consistency conditions coincide
with the predictions of the nonrelativistic quark model for these states,
extending the results previously obtained for the s-wave baryons. The 1/N_c
corrections to these predictions are studied in the quark model with arbitrary

Minimotif Miner 3.0: database expansion and significantly improved reduction of false-positive predictions from consensus sequences
Minimotif Miner (MnM available at http://minimotifminer.org or http://mnm.engr.uconn.edu) is an online database for identifying new minimotifs in protein queries. Minimotifs are short contiguous peptide sequences that have a known function in at least one protein. Here we report the third release of the MnM database which has now grown 60-fold to approximately 300 000 minimotifs. Since short minimotifs are by their nature not very complex we also summarize a new set of false-positive filters and linear regression scoring that vastly enhance minimotif prediction accuracy on a test data set. This online database can be used to predict new functions in proteins and causes of disease
Dressing the nucleon in a dispersion approach
We present a model for dressing the nucleon propagator and vertices. In the
model the use of a K-matrix approach (unitarity) and dispersion relations
(analyticity) are combined. The principal application of the model lies in
pion-nucleon scattering where we discuss effects of the dressing on the phase
