How does vessel curvature influence drug release from DES and drug transport in arterial tissue?
Several computational models of transport of drugs eluted from drug-eluting stents (DES) in curved arteries were developed in order to investigate the influence of the arterial curvature and complex geometries on drug transport in the blood flow and in the arterial wall
The Covid-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is considered of great importanceas it is a public health problem. It is currently known that Covid-19 is a systemic diseasethat can affect multiple organs and tissues and can be fatal. Liver involvement in relationto Covid-19 resembles any liver damage that occurs during the disease process. Theobjective of this study is to analyze liver diseases and Covid-19: a public health problemworldwide due to the impact present on liver diseases such as: Cirrhosis, HepaticSteatosis, Hepatitis B and C, among others. For the development of the article, adescriptive research and documentary design was used, based on information collectedfrom articles published in the following data such as: Medline, Pubmed, Googleacademic, Elsevier and Scielo. With the Boolean AND, OR, NOT and MESH terms thataddress the liver, Covid-19, prevalence of liver diseases, diagnostic tests and the objectof study was investigated to describe the relationship that exists between these twovariables. Results: it was shown that there are different liver diseases related to Covid-19, with hepatitis C prevailing with 61.40% and Covid-19 with 46.2%, indicating thelaboratory diagnostic tests considered for the detection of liver diseases and Covid-19. Inconclusion, it was shown that there is an association between the different liver diseasesin Covid-19 positive patients.

Empirically-derived food pattern and total ortality in the PREDIMED study
[Background]: There has been growing interest in the last years in assessing the relationship between diet and disease through the study of whole dietary patterris and not only focusing on single nutrients or foods. Though several studies have assessed the relationship between a posteriori dietary patterns and different health outcomes, there is little evidence on post hoc dietary patterns and all cause mortality in Southern European populations.[Objective]: To identify the association between a posteriori defined major dietary patterns and total mortality in the PREDIMED study. Methods We followed-up 7,340 participants (57.5 percent women, mean age: 67 years) during a median follow-up time of 4.8 years. To assess dietary exposures, a validated 137-item semi-quantitative food- frequency questionnaire was administered. Dietary patterns were ascertained through a factor analysis based on 30 predefined food groups. Participants were classified according to tertiles of adherence to dietary pattern scores at baseline. Cox regression models were used to estimate multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HR) for mortality. Deaths were confirmed by review of medical records and consultation of the National Death Index.[Results]: We identified two major dietary patterns: the “Western” dietary pattern and “Mediterranean” dietary pattern. During follow- up, 337 participants died. Among deceased participants, the median age of death was 70 (6.5). After controlling for potential confounders including the intervention group, higher baseline adherence to a “Mediterranean” dietary pattern was associated with lower risk of all- cause mortality (adjusted HR for third tertile vs. first textile: 0.68; 95 la CI: 0.49—0.95) (p for trend 0.028).
[Conclusion]: Higher adherence to a Mediterranean-type diet may reduce the risk of all-cause mortality in elderly people at high cardiovascular risk
A Nutraceutical Rich in Docosahexaenoic Acid Improves Portal Hypertension in a Preclinical Model of Advanced Chronic Liver Disease
Inflammation and oxidative stress play a key role in the pathophysiology of advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD) and portal hypertension (PH). Considering the current lack of effective treatments, we evaluated an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant nutraceutical rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) as a possible therapy for ACLD. We investigated the effects of two-week DHA supplementation (500 mg/kg) on hepatic fatty acids, PH, oxidative stress, inflammation, and hepatic stellate cell (HSC) phenotype in rats with ACLD. Additionally, the effects of DHA were evaluated in murine macrophages and human HSC. In contrast to vehicle-treated animals, cirrhotic rats receiving DHA reestablished a healthy hepatic fatty acid profile, which was associated with an improvement in PH. The mechanisms underlying this hemodynamic improvement included a reduction in oxidative stress and inflammation, as well as a marked HSC deactivation, confirmed in human HSC. Experiments with cultured macrophages showed that treatment with DHA protects against pro-inflammatory insults. The present preclinical study demonstrates that a nutraceutical rich in DHA significantly improves PH in chronic liver disease mainly by suppressing inflammation and oxidative stress-driven HSC activation, encouraging its evaluation as a new treatment for PH and cirrhosis
