    Quarkonium and Charm Hadrons : New Results on Spectroscopy in BaBar

    Noise spectra of SIU-GaAs pad detectors with guard rings

    This paper presents current noise characterization of circular pad Schottky barrier diodes with guard rings. The diodes were fabricated from undopped semi-insulating GaAs, SIU-GaAs, at the University of Glasgow. Current noise spectra were obtained for the detectors for two pad sizes, with reverse bias applied. Three measurements were also made on one of the detectors under forward bias. The noise spectra show an excess noise component, with a low frequency corner at less than 1kHz, and a flat region at higher frequencies. The magnitude of the white noise is approximately half that expected from shot noise theory for the given leakage currents. A fall in the magnitude of the noise was observed at 20kHz which is attributed to the dielectric relaxation time of the material

    Measurement of the CP-Violating Asymmetry Amplitude sin2β\beta

    We present results on time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurements use a data sample of about 88 million Y(4S) --> B Bbar decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We study events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B0 or B0bar from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the Standard Model is proportional to sin2beta, is derived from the decay-time distributions in such events. We measure sin2beta = 0.741 +/- 0.067 (stat) +/- 0.033 (syst) and |lambda| = 0.948 +/- 0.051 (stat) +/- 0.017 (syst). The magnitude of lambda is consistent with unity, in agreement with the Standard Model expectation of no direct CP violation in these modes

    A gallium arsenide detector was tested with a beam of 70GeV pions at the {\sf SPS} at CERN. The detector utilises a novel biasing scheme which has been shown to behave as expected. The detector has a pitch of 50\mum and therefore an expected resolution of 14.5\mum. The measured resolution was approximately 14\mum. By using a non-linear charge division algorithm this can be increased to \approx 12\mum. Noise was the limiting factor to the resolution. This was 2000e^- as opposed to the expected 360e^-. This noise is also thought to have reduced the detection efficiency of the detector.     EuFe2_2As2_2 under high pressure: an antiferromagnetic bulk superconductor

    We report the ac magnetic susceptibility χac\chi_{ac} and resistivity ρ\rho measurements of EuFe2_2As2_2 under high pressure PP. By observing nearly 100% superconducting shielding and zero resistivity at PP = 28 kbar, we establish that PP-induced superconductivity occurs at TcT_c \sim~30 K in EuFe2_2As2_2. ρ\rho shows an anomalous nearly linear temperature dependence from room temperature down to TcT_c at the same PP. χac\chi_{ac} indicates that an antiferromagnetic order of Eu2+^{2+} moments with TNT_N \sim~20 K persists in the superconducting phase.     Measurement of the production cross section for a W boson and two b jets in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

    The production cross section for a W boson and two b jets is measured using proton&#8211;proton collisions at s=7 TeV in a data sample collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb &#8722;1 . The W+bb¯ events are selected in the W&#8594;&#956;&#957; decay mode by requiring a muon with transverse momentum pT>25 GeV and pseudorapidity |&#951;|25 GeV and |&#951;|<2.4 . The measured W+bb¯ production cross section in the fiducial region, calculated at the level of final-state particles, is &#963;(pp&#8594;W+bb¯)×B(W&#8594;&#956;&#957;)=0.53±0.05(stat.)±0.09(syst.)±0.06(theo.)±0.01(lum.) pb , in agreement with the standard model prediction. In addition, kinematic distributions of the W+bb¯ system are in agreement with the predictions of a simulation using MadGraph and pythia

    Measurements of the t(t)Overbar charge asymmetry using the dilepton decay channel in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

    The tt¯ charge asymmetry in proton-proton collisions at s&#8730; = 7 TeV is measured using the dilepton decay channel (ee, e &#956; , or &#956;&#956; ). The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb &#8722;1 , collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The tt and lepton charge asymmetries, defined as the differences in absolute values of the rapidities between the reconstructed top quarks and antiquarks and of the pseudorapidities between the positive and negative leptons, respectively, are measured to be A C = &#8722;0 . 010 ± 0 . 017 (stat . ) ± 0 . 008 (syst . ) and AlepC = 0 . 009 ± 0 . 010 (stat . ) ± 0 . 006 (syst . ). The lepton charge asymmetry is also measured as a function of the invariant mass, rapidity, and transverse momentum of the tt¯ system. All measurements are consistent with the expectations of the standard model
