Marginal Fermi liquid behavior from 2d Coulomb interaction
A full, nonperturbative renormalization group analysis of interacting
electrons in a graphite layer is performed, in order to investigate the
deviations from Fermi liquid theory that have been observed in the experimental
measures of a linear quasiparticle decay rate in graphite. The electrons are
coupled through Coulomb interactions, which remain unscreened due to the
semimetallic character of the layer. We show that the model flows towards the
noninteracting fixed-point for the whole range of couplings, with logarithmic
corrections which signal the marginal character of the interaction separating
Fermi liquid and non-Fermi liquid regimes.Comment: 7 pages, 2 Postscript figure
New Variable Jet Models for HH 34
We consider newly derived proper motions of the HH 34 jet to reconstruct the evolution of this outflow. We first extrapolate ballistic trajectories for the knots (starting from their present-day positions and velocities) and find that at ~1000 yr in the future most of them will merge to form a larger-mass structure. This mass structure will be formed close to the present-day position of the HH 34S bow shock. We then carry out a fit to the ejection velocity versus time reconstructed from the observed proper motions (assuming that the past motion of the knots was ballistic) and use this fit to compute axisymmetric jet simulations. We find that the intensity maps predicted from these simulations do indeed match reasonably well the [S II] structure of HH 34 observed in Hubble Space Telescope images
Geometrical resonance in spatiotemporal systems
We generalize the concept of geometrical resonance to perturbed sine-Gordon,
Nonlinear Schrödinger and Complex Ginzburg-Landau equations. Using this
theory we can control different dynamical patterns. For instance, we can
stabilize breathers and oscillatory patterns of large amplitudes successfully
avoiding chaos. On the other hand, this method can be used to suppress
spatiotemporal chaos and turbulence in systems where these phenomena are
already present. This method can be generalized to even more general

A free boundary model for oxygen diffusion in a spherical medium
The goal of this article is to find a correct approximated solution using a
polynomial of sixth degree for the free boundary problem corresponding to the
diffusion of oxygen in a spherical medium with simultaneous absorption at a

Bound states in the continuum driven by AC fields
We report the formation of bound states in the continuum driven by AC fields.
This system consists of a quantum ring connected to two leads. An AC side-gate
voltage controls the interference pattern of the electrons passing through the
system. We model the system by two sites in parallel connected to two
semi-infinite lattices. The energy of these sites change harmonically with
time. We obtain the transmission probability and the local density of states at
the ring sites as a function of the parameters that define the system. The
transmission probability displays a Fano profile when the energy of the
incoming electron matches the driving frequency. Correspondingly, the local
density of states presents a narrow peak that approaches a Dirac delta function
in the weak coupling limit. We attribute these features to the presence of
