    Объектом исследования является система транспорта продукта на нефтегазоконденсатном месторождении Томской области. Цель работы: анализ особенностей системы транспорта нефти на нефтегазоконденсатном месторождении Томской области. В процессе работы проводился: анализ характеристик внутрипромысловых и технологических трубопроводов, анализ системы хранения продукта и его транспортировки, а также обеспечивающего технологический процесс оборудования. Приведены мероприятия по техническому обслуживанию нефтепроводов и их защите от коррозии, определена расчетная и отбраковочная толщина стенок труб, проведен расчет остаточного ресурса трубопровода по минимальной вероятной толщине стенок труб.The object of study is the product transport system in the oil and gas condensate field of the Tomsk region. Objective: to analyze the features of the oil transportation system in the oil and gas condensate field of the Tomsk region. In the process of work was carried out: analysis of the characteristics of infield and technological pipelines, analysis of the product storage system and its transportation, as well as equipment ensuring the technological process. Measures for the maintenance of oil pipelines and their protection against corrosion are given, the calculated and rejected wall thicknesses of the pipes are determined, and the residual life of the pipeline is calculated from the minimum probable pipe wall thickness

    Endometrial apoptosis induced by a 900-MHz mobile phone: Preventive effects of vitamins E and C

    Numerous reports have described the effects induced by an electromagnetic field (EMF) in various cellular systems. The purposes of this study were to examine oxidative stress that promotes production of reactive oxygen species induced by a 900-megahertz (MHz) mobile phone and the possible ameliorating effects of vitamins E and C on endometrial tissue against EMF-incluced endometrial impairment and apoptosis in rats. Animals were randomly grouped as follows: (1) sham-operated control group (n=8), (2) 900 MHz EMF-exposed group (n=8; 30 min/d for 30 d), and (3) 900 MHz EMF-exposed group, treated with vitamins E and C (n=8; 50 mg/kg intramuscularly and 20 mg/kg body weight intraperitoneally before daily EMF exposure). Malondialdehyde (an index of lipid peroxidation) was used as a marker of oxidative stress-induced endometrial impairment; Bcl-2, Bax, caspase-3, and caspase-8 were assessed immunohistochemically. In this study, increased malondialdehyde levels in endometrial tissue and apoptosis illustrated the role of the oxidative mechanism induced by exposure to a 900-MHz mobile phone-like device and vitamins E and C; via free radical scavenging and antioxidant properties, oxidative tissue injury and apoptosis were ameliorated in rat endometrium. In conclusion, exposure to 900-MHz radiation emitted by mobile phones may cause endometrial apoptosis and oxidative stress, but treatment with vitamins E and C can diminish these changes and may have a beneficial effect in preventing endometrial changes in rats

    Investigating the scientific process skills of medical students in relation to medical decision making: Research on basic medical science competence

    Background: Medical students are expected to convey scientific literacy and possess certain scientific skills prior to being admitted to medical schools. Laboratory practices being provided during their education play a crucial role in their professional development and the usefulness of these practices is possible and can be enriched if the students possess prior scientific skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the scientific process skills of second year medical students in Suleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Medicine, Turkey. Methods: The study was conducted in April 2006 by using the Scientific Process Skills Questionnaire (SPSQ) for laboratory practices. Randomly selected (n = 76) second year medical students participated in the study. Results: Nine basic scientific process skills were investigated. All of the students responded correctly to the question that measured their ability to interpret data. Students abilities to set up hypothesis and make estimations were found quite high. (94.7 %, 92.1 % respectively) The two skills that were challenging to students were the ability to make an observation and their proficiency in scales. The percentage of correct responses to those questions were 50 % and 50.5 % respectively. Conclusions: The study suggests that students in the study group possess the necessary scientific process skills at some degree (86 %). However, this ratio, thus the productivity of laboratory practices can be enhanced by building up on skills such as making observations and interpreting scales. Quality in medical education cannot be achieved if we do not provide our students with basic scientific process skills early in their education

    Elastography in Distinguishing Benign from Malignant Thyroid Nodules

    Aim: The aim of this study is to test the diagnostic success of strain elastography in distinguishing benign from malignant thyroid nodules. Materials and Methods: The size, echogenicity, and halo integrity of 293 thyroid nodules and the presence of microcalcification in these nodules were evaluated on gray-scale examination. Doppler characteristics and elastography patterns were also evaluated and recorded. Nodules were classified in four categories (patterns 1-4) based on elastographic examination. Results: According to the cytopathological findings, 222 nodules were benign, and 71 nodules were malignant. The risk of a nodule to be malignant was 3.8 times increased by hypoechogenicity, 7.7 times increased by the presence of microcalcification, and 11.5 times increased by the absence of halo. On Doppler patterns, the presence of central vascularity increased the malignancy risk of a nodule by 5.8 times. According to the receiver operating characteristic analysis, patterns 3 and 4 were malignant, and patterns 1 and 2 were benign. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of elastography were 100%, 80.2%, 61.7%, 100%, and 85%, respectively. Conclusion: Strain elastography can be used as a noninvasive method in distinguishing benign from malignant thyroid nodules and in identifying the patients who would undergo surgery

    In Vivo Evaluation of the Biomechanical Properties of Optic Nerve and Peripapillary Structures by Ultrasonic Shear Wave Elastography in Glaucoma

    BACKGROUND: Primary open-angle glaucoma is a multifactorial serious disease characterized by progressive retinal ganglion cell death and loss of visual field. OBJECTIVES: The purposes of this study were to investigate shear wave elastography (SWE) use in the evaluation of the optic nerve (ON) and peripapillary structures, and to compare the findings between glaucomatous and control eyes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A case-controlled study, including 21 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and 21 age-matched control subjects, was carried out. All of the participants had comprehensive ophthalmological exams that included corneal biomechanical measurements with ocular response analyzer. In vivo evaluation of the biomechanical properties of the ON and peripapillary structures were performed with SWE in all participants. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used to analyze the normal distribution of data. Differences of parameters in ophthalmologic data and stiffness values of patients with and without glaucoma were evaluated using the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences between the glaucoma and control groups in terms of age (P > 0.05) and gender (P > 0.05). Corneal hysteresis was lower in the glaucoma group (P < 0.05). Corneal compensated intraocular pressure and Goldmann correlated intraocular pressure were higher in the glaucoma group (P < 0.0001 for both). The mean stiffness of the ON and peripapillary structures were significantly higher in glaucoma patients for each measured region (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The study evaluated the biomechanical properties of the ON and peripapillary structures in vivo with SWE in glaucoma. We observed stiffer ON and peripapillary tissue in glaucomatous eyes, indicating that SWE claims new perspectives in the evaluation of ON and peripapillary structures in glaucoma disease
