superconformal theories with blocks
We study the chiral ring of four-dimensional superconformal field theories
obtained by wrapping M5-branes on a complex curve inside a Calabi-Yau
three-fold. We propose a field theoretic construction of all the theories found
by Bah, Beem, Bobev and Wecht by introducing new building blocks, and prove
several dualities featuring the latter. We match the central
charges with those computed from the M5-brane anomaly polynomial, perform the
counting of relevant operators and analyze unitarity bound violations. As a
byproduct, we compute the exact dimension of "heavy operators" obtained by
wrapping an M2-brane on the complex curve.Comment: 45 pages, 17 figures; v2: typos fixed, minor changes, references

Hierarchies of RG flows in 6d massive E-strings
We extend the analysis of arXiv:2208.11703 to the 6d SCFTs known as
massive E-string theories, which can be engineered in massive Type IIA with
D8-branes close to an O8 (or O8 if ). For each
choice of the massive -strings (including the
more exotic and ) are classified by constrained Kac
labels, i.e. a subset of , from which one can
read off the flavor subalgebra of of each SCFT. We construct
hierarchies for two types of Higgs branch RG flows: flows between massive
theories defined by the same but different labels; flows between massive
theories with different . These latter flows are triggered by T-brane
vev's for the right factor of the SCFT global symmetry, whose
rank is a function of both and , a situation which has so far remained
vastly unexplored.Comment: Part II of a series of papers; 37+11 pages; 13 figure
Is thyroid nodule location associated with malignancy risk?
PURPOSE:
Nodules located in the upper pole of the thyroid may carry a greater risk for malignancy than those in the lower pole. We conducted a study to analyze the risk of malignancy of nodules depending on location.
METHODS:
The records of patients undergoing thyroid-nodule fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) at an academic thyroid cancer unit were prospectively collected. The nodules were considered benign in cases of a benign histology or cytology report, and malignant in cases of malignant histology. Pathological findings were analyzed based on the anatomical location of the nodules, which were also scored according to five ultrasonographic classification systems.
RESULTS:
Between November 1, 2015 and May 30, 2018, 832 nodules underwent FNAC, of which 557 had a definitive diagnosis. The prevalence of malignancy was not significantly different in the isthmus, right, or left lobe. Among the 227 nodules that had a precise longitudinal location noted (from 219 patients [155 females], aged 56.2±14.0 years), malignancy was more frequent in the middle lobe (13.2%; odds ratio [OR], 9.74; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.95 to 48.59). This figure was confirmed in multivariate analyses that took into account nodule composition and the Thyroid Imaging, Reporting, and Data System (TIRADS) classification. Using the American College of Radiologists TIRADS, the upper pole location also demonstrated a slightly significant association with malignancy (OR, 6.92; 95% CI, 1.02 to 46.90; P=0.047).
CONCLUSION:
The risk of thyroid malignancy was found to be significantly higher for mid-lobar nodules. This observation was confirmed when suspicious ultrasonographic features were included in a multivariate model, suggesting that the longitudinal location in the lobe may be a risk factor independently of ultrasonographic appearance
Combination of thymol treatment (Apiguard®) and caging the queen technique to fight Varroa destructor
International audienceAbstractGuaranteeing high acaricide efficacy to control Varroa destructor is fundamental for colony survival. In this study, we verified the efficacy and impact of a commercial thymol-based veterinary product (Apiguard®) on colony honey bee populations when used alone or combined with the biotechnical method of caging honey bee queens to create an artificial brood interruption period in the colony. Apiguard® killed 76.1% of the mites while queen caging killed 40.6% of the mites. The combination of Apiguard® administration with queen caging killed 96.8% of the mites. Comparing bee numbers before and after treatment, Apiguard® treated colonies with caged queens had 48.7% fewer bees compared to before treatment, while Apiguard® alone reduced the number of adult bees by 13.6%. None of the treatments in the different groups resulted in elevated queen mortality
A Fast Autotuning Method for Velocity Control of Mechatronic Systems
In this paper a fast automatic tuning methodology for velocity controllers of mechatronic systems is proposed. In order to be applicable in general, the method takes into account the position, velocity and torque constraints of the motion control system and it requires a minimum intervention of the operator. Further, it can be implemented also with small computational capabilities which makes it suitable for industrial drives. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the technique
Unpacking hybridity: development and first validation of a multidimensional instrument to profile hybrid professionals
Hybrid professionals, that is, professionals who have transitioned to managerial roles, have emerged in numerous public settings. Through in-depth qualitative methodologies, the literature has shown a good degree of heterogeneity in the way hybrid professionals perceive and manage their hybridity. In this study, we aim to develop a theory-based, multidimensional instrument able to capture such heterogeneity in a lean but sensitive way. In this instrument, we combine consolidated scales of identity centrality and integration and vignettes, on the one hand, to measure the perception of hybrid professionals of the relationship between their professional and managerial identities and, on the other hand, to elicit the practices they use to deal with the demands of the professional and managerial logics. We first validate the instrument on a sample of school principals in the Italian context and then describe the six profiles of hybrid professionals derived from the analysis. We suggest three avenues for applying such an instrument
