Multimedia environmental fate and transport model of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT): case study sayong river watershed
This study describes the development of a multimedia environmental fate and transport model of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) at Sayong River Watershed. Based on the latest estimated DDT emission, the DDT concentrations in air, soil, water, and sediment as well as the transfer flux were simulated under the equilibrium and steady-state assumption. Model predictions suggest that soil and sediment was the dominant sink of DDT. The results showed that the model predicted was generally good agreement with field data. Compared with degradation reaction, advection outflow was more important in removal processes of DDT. Sensitivities of the model estimates to input parameters were tested. The result showed that vapour pressure (Ps), chemical solubility (Cs), and absolute temperature (T) of DDT were the most influential parameters for the model output. The model output–concentrations of DDT in multimedia environment is very important as it can be used in future for human exposure and risk assessment of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) at Sayong River Basin

Peripheral interface controller-based maximum power point tracking algorithm for photovoltaic DC to DC boost controller
A method of developing a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for photovoltaic (PV) utilizing a peripheral interface controller (PIC) is presented in this paper. The efficiency and adequacy of a PV depend on the temperature and the exposed position to the sun. Thus, there is an optimum point at which the operating power is at maximum. The goal is to operate the PV module at this point (MPP). It can be accomplished by using the MPPT algorithm designed with a DC-DC boost converter. The boost converter, MPPT circuit, PIC18F4550 microcontroller and PV panel are the main components used in this design. The current and voltage produced by the solar panel are observed continuously by a closed-loop control system. The microcontroller-based control system adjusts the duty cycle of the converter to extract the maximum power. With a DC input voltage of 15 V, the boost converter is capable of generating an output voltage of an approximately 60 Vdc at a maximum power of 213.42 W with minimum voltage ripple as compared to 84 W without the MPPT. It proved the effectiveness of the developed algorithm

14 MeV calibration of JET neutron detectors-phase 1: calibration and characterization of the neutron source
In view of the planned DT operations at JET, a calibration of the JET neutron monitors at
14 MeV neutron energy is needed using a 14 MeV neutron generator deployed inside the
vacuum vessel by the JET remote handling system. The target accuracy of this calibration
is ±10% as also required by ITER, where a precise neutron yield measurement is important,
e.g. for tritium accountancy. To achieve this accuracy, the 14 MeV neutron generator selected
as the calibration source has been fully characterised and calibrated prior to the in-vessel
calibration of the JET monitors. This paper describes the measurements performed using
different types of neutron detectors, spectrometers, calibrated long counters and activation
foils which allowed us to obtain the neutron emission rate and the anisotropy of the neutron
generator, i.e. the neutron flux and energy spectrum dependence on emission angle, and to
derive the absolute emission rate in 4Ď€ sr. The use of high resolution diamond spectrometers
made it possible to resolve the complex features of the neutron energy spectra resulting from
the mixed D/T beam ions reacting with the D/T nuclei present in the neutron generator target.
As the neutron generator is not a stable neutron source, several monitoring detectors were
attached to it by means of an ad hoc mechanical structure to continuously monitor the neutron
emission rate during the in-vessel calibration. These monitoring detectors, two diamond
diodes and activation foils, have been calibrated in terms of neutrons/counts within ±5% total
uncertainty. A neutron source routine has been developed, able to produce the neutron spectra
resulting from all possible reactions occurring with the D/T ions in the beam impinging on
the Ti D/T target. The neutron energy spectra calculated by combining the source routine with
a MCNP model of the neutron generator have been validated by the measurements. These
numerical tools will be key in analysing the results from the in-vessel calibration and to derive
the response of the JET neutron detectors to DT plasma neutrons starting from the response to
the generator neutrons, and taking into account all the calibration circumstances.EURATOM 63305
Single and Multi-Sources Energy Sizing for Electric Vehicle: A Case Study
The automotive industry has introduced various renewable-energy based technologies such as battery electric vehicles (BEV) and fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV). However  the main concern is addressing issues to determine which vehicle with different energy sources are more efficiency and cost saving than the others. In order to overcome this issue detailed analysis need to be performed on the important criterions in vehicle sizing like energy cost, dissipated energy and effective energy source (EES). This paper deals with the modeling, evaluation and analysis of single and multi-source electric vehicle (EV) on three classes of EV, namely the light electric vehicle (LEV), medium electric vehicle (MEV) and electric vehicle (EV). A comparison on dissipated energy with different EES, charging cost and weight were made based on a linear mathematical calculation. The results have shown that multi-sources energy powered-vehicle deliver among the best dissipated energy and EES percentage. Findings of this energy sizing under various combination of EV would be helpful for further research on the EV energy applications
Prevalence of Muscle Dysmorphia and Associated Health Activities in Male Medical Students in Karachi, Pakistan
Background: Muscle Dysmorphia (MD) is a subtype of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and is currently classified under anxiety disorders (subheading: Obsessive-compulsive disorder) in DSM 5. MD is hypothesized to affect the self-esteem and social outlook of the younger generation. MD shows a higher rate in males and may influence their self-confidence rendering them more prone towards using steroids, supplementary proteins and other drugs to alter their physical outlooks as shown in previous studies. This problem has been on the rise lately due to revolutionary advancement in the media and film industry and the abrupt changes about the standards of physical good looks and body shapes. With the lack of studies done in our population, our study will be helpful to consider the prevalence of the disease in our setting and increase awareness in the general public and clinicians. We hope to help clinicians/ therapists find better options in managing the disease.
Materials: We performed a cross-sectional study with a sample size of 246 medical school students in Karachi to collect data through self-administered questionnaires. We used the DSM 5 criteria for the diagnosis of BDD and additional questions on the presence of MD. Nutritional habits, exercise routines, use of supplements and drugs were also obtained for exploratory analysis.
Results: Our study predicted the prevalence of MD to be 25%. Other main findings included statistical significant associations between MD and the thoughts and practice of steroid use for muscularity.
Conclusion: MD is an underdiagnosed and often unrecognized disease that we believe has significant consequences for the young male population. Further work is needed on this in our part of the world. Our research, we believe, can be a stepping stone for further studies that would incorporate wider populations
