The understanding of the effects of the retirement transition on health
and psychological well-being has become a research arena more and more
claimed (Neuman, 2008), because of the current political and economic moment,
and because the elderly new features and needs (Pérez, 2006). Given
their particular characteristics and the ubiquitous literature inexistence, the
study of the university professors group seems to have special relevance in
this situation. Thus, the aim of this study is to assess the satisfaction with
retirement and the well-being, in an extensive and detailed way, in a sample
composed by 22 university professors from the University of Valencia. Results
show an adequate adjustment to the retirement process and high wellbeing
indexes, and both similarities and differences between this and other
researches in different contexts are concluded
Mapping Protective Performance of Social Network Types on Health and Quality of Life in Older People in European Regions
Objectives: To identify social network profiles using Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), to study the relationships of these profiles with health markers, mental health, quality of life, and cognitive functioning, and to compare profiles across European regions. Methods: 27,272 participants from the Wave 8 of the SHARE project, aged 65 or older (M = 74.95, SD = 7.17) from Europe. Statistical analyses included LPAs followed by MANOVAs to compare the profiles and the health markers. Results: Five profiles were identified: family, friends, spouse, diverse, and others. A no network group was also added. The prevalence of the specific profiles differed across European regions. Individuals with no network and those categorized into the others profile presented the worst health outcomes. Discussion: The "friends" network is more protective toward cognitive functioning and physical health and the "spouse" and "family" ones are more protective toward mental health. The variability according to European regions is discussed
Difficulties in learning and teaching statistics have been a subject of interest for researchers and many studies have attempted to describe the factors influencing academic performance in the subject of statistics. The aim of this research is twofold: a) to test for the effects of attendance to statistics sessions, interest in the subject, collective feedback, satisfaction, and the existence of previous experience with applied statistics, in the students’ assessment results in applied statistics; and b) to build an “instrument” to predict which students will find problems to pass the subject. Sample consisted of 166 students of statistics in psychology. Logistic regression and ROC curve analysis were used, and class attendance, collective feedback utility and previous experience with statistics emerged as good predictors of statistics achievement.
l’Escala d’Autoestima de Rosenberg, l’Escala d’Autoestima Estat i l’Autoestima
Self-esteem scales very often present items in the trait direction and items
in the opposite direction. This practice has become common because of the
presence of aquiescence, or the tendency to answer affirmatively, no matter
what the item content is. Empirical evidence demonstrates negatively worded
items use generates method variance creating method effects not associated
with the traits of interest. In this sense, the present research pretends to extend
the evidence and the study of the method effect related to negatively worded
items in the self-esteem scales context. More specifically the presence of method
effects is studied, not only when self-esteem is tested as a global trait, but
also when self-esteem specific domains are measured as either traits or states,
in different kinds of samples. To conduct this study, two samples were assessed:
one consisting of 592 adolescents, and the other one composed of 295
batterers. Three self-esteem scales were used: the Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem
Scale, the State Self-Esteem Scale, and the Self-Esteem 17. Results evidenced
a better fit for the correlated traits and methods (CTCM) model including a
method factor associated to negatively worded items. It was concluded that
models’ fit improves when a method factor is included
The Development of a Spanish Language Version of the Worn Out Scale of the General Well-Being Questionnaire (GWBQ)
The paper describes the development of a short Spanish-language version of the General
Well-Being Questionnaire (GWBQ; Cox & Gotts, 1987), based on the 12 items of its
Worn Out scale. Research has shown the English-version Worn Out scale to be sensitive
to aspects of the design and management of work. This study aimed to test its crosscultural
consistency in a Spanish-language workplace context. The data were collected
from a sample of 229 workers in Valencia (Spain). Confirmatory Factor Analyses showed
the factorial validity, reliability, and concurrent validity of the new Spanish version to be
adequate. The sensitivity of the new measure to safety behavior and the reporting of
accidents was also assessed and shown to be good. The new questionnaire extends the
usefulness of the parent questionnaire to occupational health psychology research in the
Spanish language by offering a short assessment tool appropriate for workplace [email protected]

Psychometric properties on a romantic love myths scale: The case of the myths, fallacies and erroneous beliefs about the ideal of romantic love scale.
Understanding the construct of romantic love is an important task in societies all around the world. However, instruments designed to assess this construct are scarce and most of them were developed more than a decade ago. De la Peña, Ramos, Luzón, and Recio (2011) proposed the Myths, Fallacies and Erroneous Beliefs about the Ideal of Romantic Love Scale. In this current study we provide the psychometric properties of this scale in a representative sample of adolescents. The analytic strategy included both Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. We achieved a best-factor structure using a unidimensional model of romantic beliefs which also had an adequate estimated reliability. In agreement with descriptions in the existing academic literature, the resulting romantic beliefs factor was significantly related to hostile and benevolent sexism, although slightly less so in the latter case. Finally, differential validity was examined using 'gender' and 'having a partner' as independent variables; the differences in romantic beliefs according to these variables also agreed with previous reports in the literature. We provide a thorough discussion of our results and highlight the implications of our findings for clinical practice
Effect of entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurship intention and related outcomes in educational contexts: a meta-analysis
Although some meta-analyses have investigated the effect of Entrepreneurship Education (EE), they mixed studies with high and low methodological quality. Thus, their results might overestimate the impact. This paper aims to examine the efficacy of the EE in student samples, attending to studies with a pre-posttest design and a control group.
The results showed small effect sizes for EE in increasing Entrepreneurship Intention (EI) and Self-efficacy. Moreover, meta-regression confirmed that the duration of intervention programs predicted larger effect sizes for the EI. Finally, the practical implications of other potential moderator variables are discussed
