    Nonlinear Realization of Chiral Symmetry on the Lattice

    We formulate lattice theories in which chiral symmetry is realized nonlinearly on the fermion fields. In this framework the fermion mass term does not break chiral symmetry. This property allows us to use the Wilson term to remove the doubler fermions while maintaining exact chiral symmetry on the lattice. Our lattice formulation enables us to address non-perturbative questions in effective field theories of baryons interacting with pions and in models involving constituent quarks interacting with pions and gluons. We show that a system containing a non-zero density of static baryons interacting with pions can be studied on the lattice without encountering complex action problems. In our formulation one can also decide non-perturbatively if the chiral quark model of Georgi and Manohar provides an appropriate low-energy description of QCD.     The Minimal Supersymmetric Fat Higgs Model

    We present a calculable supersymmetric theory of a composite ``fat'' Higgs boson. Electroweak symmetry is broken dynamically through a new gauge interaction that becomes strong at an intermediate scale. The Higgs mass can easily be 200-450 GeV along with the superpartner masses, solving the supersymmetric little hierarchy problem. We explicitly verify that the model is consistent with precision electroweak data without fine-tuning. Gauge coupling unification can be maintained despite the inherently strong dynamics involved in electroweak symmetry breaking. Supersymmetrizing the Standard Model therefore does not imply a light Higgs mass, contrary to the lore in the literature. The Higgs sector of the minimal Fat Higgs model has a mass spectrum that is distinctly different from the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, REVTe

    Density pertubation of unparticle dark matter in the flat Universe

    The unparticle has been suggested as a candidate of dark matter. We investigated the growth rate of the density perturbation for the unparticle dark matter in the flat Universe. First, we consider the model in which unparticle is the sole dark matter and find that the growth factor can be approximated well by f=(1+3ωu)ΩuÎłf=(1+3\omega_u)\Omega^{\gamma}_u, where ωu\omega_u is the equation of state of unparticle. Our results show that the presence of ωu\omega_u modifies the behavior of the growth factor ff. For the second model where unparticle co-exists with cold dark matter, the growth factor has a new approximation f=(1+3ωu)ΩuÎł+αΩmf=(1+3\omega_u)\Omega^{\gamma}_u+\alpha \Omega_m and α\alpha is a function of ωu\omega_u. Thus the growth factor of unparticle is quite different from that of usual dark matter.     The 331 model with right-handed neutrinos

    We explore some more consequences of the SU(3)L⊗U(1)NSU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_N electroweak model with right-handed neutrinos. By introducing the Z−Zâ€ČZ - Z' mixing angle ϕ\phi, the {\it exact} physical eigenstates for neutral gauge bosons are obtained. Because of the mixing, there is a modification to the Z1Z^1 coupling proportional to sinâĄÏ•\sin\phi. The data from the ZZ-decay allows us to fix the limit for ϕ\phi as −0.0021≀ϕ≀0.000132-0.0021 \leq \phi \leq 0.000132. >From the neutrino neutral current scatterings, we estimate a bound for the new neutral gauge boson Z2Z^2 mass in the range 300 GeV, and from symmetry-breaking hierarchy a bound for the new charged and neutral (non-Hermitian) gauge bosons Y±,XoY^{\pm}, X^o are obtained.Comment: Slight changes in section 5, Latex, 16 page

    Observations of the Antarctic polar front during FDRAKE 76 : a cruise report

    Figures 37 and 38 have been reduced from their original size for the purpose of scanning.During March/April 1976 the small-scale structure of the Antarctic Polar Front was observed in the Drake Passage. The observations were part of the International Southern Ocean Studies (ISOS) program called FDRAke 76. The purpose of the program was to obtain densely sampled measurements of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and chemical nutrients in the Polar Front Zone (PFZ) and pilot measurements of horizontal and vertical velocities in order to explain the above scalar variability. The PFZ is a region where Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters intermingle and presumably mix to affect the properties of Antarctic Intermediate Water. A report on the third leg of Cruise 107 of the R. V. THOMPSON is presented as well as a description of the measurements and a preliminary report of the data.
