Perceptions of Youth on Health, Nutrition, and Well-Being in their Local Community: The Somersworth Photovoice Project
What I learned from years of working with low-income, at-risk youth, is that each has a big voice and a lot of ideas that they are eager to share. Because virtually everyone can learn to use a camera, photography is an accessible way for young people to express themselves. This is what made Photovoice such an ideal method to collect data at the Somersworth Youth Safe Haven, an after school program for at-risk youth living in low-income housing. Four middle and high school students from the Safe Haven agreed to share their perspectives on how the community environment impacts their health by photographing aspects of their communities, homes, and schools. Then, the children shared, discussed, and wrote captions for their favorite photographs. The overall objective of the study was to develop a better understanding of the relationship between the environment and nutritional health status of low-income youth by exploring the man-made elements of the environment
Ethics in the Early Works of Accounting
Accountants recently had the opportunity to celebrate 20 years of existence in Poland
the regulating of accounting. The act was adopted by parliament in 1994. 500
years before the treaty about double accounting was reprinted by Pacioli. The edition
of Tractatus XI. Particularis de computis et scripturis was an (epic) epoch-making
event designating the beginning of a new field of economic sciences. The idea
of the double accounting was known before, not only because of Pacioli, but also
through Cotruglio, who described it 36 years earlier.
Recently in accounting, as well as in the broadly understood economy, there
is a particular emphasis put on ethics, moral values and professional attitudes. It is
worth considering whether and on what scale they were present in the early works
of Accountancy 550 years ago, how their representatives approached the subjects
the beginning of a written history of accounting.
The article presents the main ideas included in the guidelines Pacioli and Cotruglio
regarding double accounting, and identifies if ethical guidelines were presents
among others guidelines. It turns out that the author of the essential work in
the history of accounting, as well as its predecessor, devoted much attention to the
moral attitude of the merchant, his appropriate behavior, attitude towards customers
and other people, with whom he has a business relationship

Jh.s wiedergegeben hat und ordnet diese Ansichten ein in Mickiewiczs messianistische Vorstellungen
Mechatronic system for technical diagnostic using Barkhausen effect
The aim of this paper is to present the mechatronic system for technical diagnostic based on magnetic Barkhausen noise analysis. Intended use of this system is especially residual stress control with crack prediction or subsurface layer microstructure investigation of flat parts of machineries and constructional elements. The basis of Barkhausen noise inspection methods, fields of applications, construction of the investigation apparatus and details of measuring head positioning system were described. Horizontal setting of the head was realized with the step motors. The vertical lifting and lowering is controlled by pneumatic system. Open structure of the system let to use for control and data acquisition the standard PLC controllers
Searching the Origins of Political Discourse – An Intertextual Analysis of Ronald Reagan’s Farewell Speech
The aim of the investigation is to present the relation between political and religious discourse on the basis of intertextual elements linking the two types of discourse. A presidential speech by Ronald Reagan, delivered in the Oval Office at the White House on January 11, 1983, constitutes the material for the research. The emphasis of the study is placed on the fragments referring to “the shining city upon the hill”, i.e. to the most frequently used metaphor by the president. The roots of the afore mentioned parts belong to religious discourse. They can be found primarily in a sermon by John Winthrop – one of the Puritans – who came to America in 1630. Nevertheless, it is not the sole source of references. While preparing his “Modell of Christian Charity”, John Winthrop referred to the Bible. Words considering “the city upon the hill” are to be found in the Gospel (Mt 5, 14). The analysed fragment of the “Sermon on the Mount”, i.e., “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden (…)” deals with advice on the lifestyle of Jesus’s followers and obviously serves as an example of religious discourse as well
Perceptions of Transactional and Transformational Leaders According to Gender
The lack of females occupying leadership positions in the modern workplace has prompted the research of this study. In order to better understand the perceptions that exist regarding successful leadership, this study was conducted with the intention of understanding individual leadership style through the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire, which measures transactional and transformational leadership styles (Bass and Avolio, 1993). 64 male and female participants, made up of 36 students and 28 individuals in the workforce ages 18-61 with an average age of 31 answered 21 questions to assess their leadership style and 1 to measure who they perceived as a successful leader, with responses coded by gender of responder and response. This study aimed to assess whether males identified more with transactional leadership and females with transformational leadership style, which would confirm current research conducted in the field. The Chi Squared statistical analysis test results showed that 72.4% of males displayed transformational leadership styles, along with 82.9% of females displaying this same style, which showed a lack of significance between gender and difference in leadership style. However, in response to the question asking to identify a successful leader, results showed that most individuals of both gender wrote down a male leader
