Signals of Unconventional E Models at Colliders
Generation dependent discrete symmetries often appear in models derived from
superstring theories. In particular, in the framework of E models the
presence of such symmetries is required in order to allow for the radiative
generation of naturally small neutrino masses. Recently it was shown that by
imposing suitable generation dependent discrete symmetries, a class of models
can be consistently constructed in which the three sets of known fermions in
each generation do not have the same assignments with respect to the {\bf 27}
representation of E. In this scenario, the different embedding in the gauge
group of the three generations implies in particular that the known charged
leptons couple in a non--universal way to the new neutral gauge bosons
present in these models. We exploit this fact to study the
signature of this class of models at present and future colliders. We
show that some signals of deviation from lepton universality as well as some
other discrepancies with the standard model predictions which have been
observed at the TRISTAN collider in the production rate of and ,
can be accounted for if the mass is not much heavier than 300 GeV. We
also study the discovery limits for lepton universality violation of this type
at LEP-2 and at the 500 GeV Next Linear Collider (NLC). We show that
models predicting unconventional assignments for the leptons will give an
unmistakable signature, when the mass is as heavy as GeV
(LEP-2) and TeV (NLC).Comment: Plain Tex, 20 pages. 4 PostScript figures (uses `epsf.tex'). Modified

Cosmic Flows on 100 Mpc/h Scales: Standardized Minimum Variance Bulk Flow, Shear and Octupole Moments
The low order moments, such as the bulk flow and shear, of the large scale
peculiar velocity field are sensitive probes of the matter density fluctuations
on very large scales. In practice, however, peculiar velocity surveys are
usually sparse and noisy, which can lead to the aliasing of small scale power
into what is meant to be a probe of the largest scales. Previously, we
developed an optimal ``minimum variance'' (MV) weighting scheme, designed to
overcome this problem by minimizing the difference between the measured bulk
flow (BF) and that which would be measured by an ideal survey. Here we extend
this MV analysis to include the shear and octupole moments, which are designed
to have almost no correlations between them so that they are virtually
orthogonal. We apply this MV analysis to a compilation of all major peculiar
velocity surveys, consisting of 4536 measurements. Our estimate of the BF on
scales of ~ 100 Mpc/h has a magnitude of |v|= 416 +/- 78 km/s towards Galactic
l = 282 degree +/- 11 degree and b = 6 degree +/- 6 degree. This result is in
disagreement with LCDM with WMAP5 cosmological parameters at a high confidence
level, but is in good agreement with our previous MV result without an
orthogonality constraint, showing that the shear and octupole moments did not
contaminate the previous BF measurement. The shear and octupole moments are
consistent with WMAP5 power spectrum, although the measurement noise is larger
for these moments than for the BF. The relatively low shear moments suggest
that the sources responsible for the BF are at large distances.Comment: 13 Pages, 7 figures, 4 tables. Some changes to reflect the published

1,4-dihydroxy quininib modulates the secretome of uveal melanoma tumour explants and a marker of oxidative phosphorylation in a metastatic xenograft model
Uveal melanoma (UM) is an intraocular cancer with propensity for liver metastases. The median overall survival (OS) for metastatic UM (MUM) is 1.07 years, with a reported range of 0.84-1.34. In primary UM, high cysteinyl leukotriene receptor 1 (CysLT(1)) expression associates with poor outcomes. CysLT(1) antagonists, quininib and 1,4-dihydroxy quininib, alter cancer hallmarks of primary and metastatic UM cell lines in vitro. Here, the clinical relevance of CysLT receptors and therapeutic potential of quininib analogs is elaborated in UM using preclinical in vivo orthotopic xenograft models and ex vivo patient samples. Immunohistochemical staining of an independent cohort (n = 64) of primary UM patients confirmed high CysLT(1) expression significantly associates with death from metastatic disease (p = 0.02; HR 2.28; 95% CI 1.08-4.78), solidifying the disease relevance of CysLT(1) in UM. In primary UM samples (n = 11) cultured as ex vivo explants, 1,4-dihydroxy quininib significantly alters the secretion of IL-13, IL-2, and TNF-alpha. In an orthotopic, cell line-derived xenograft model of MUM, 1,4-dihydroxy quininib administered intraperitoneally at 25 mg/kg significantly decreases ATP5B expression (p = 0.03), a marker of oxidative phosphorylation. In UM, high ATP5F1B is a poor prognostic indicator, whereas low ATP5F1B, in combination with disomy 3, correlates with an absence of metastatic disease in the TCGA-UM dataset. These preclinical data highlight the diagnostic potential of CysLT(1) and ATP5F1B in UM, and the therapeutic potential of 1,4-dihydroxy quininib with ATP5F1B as a companion diagnostic to treat MUM
Airborne olive pollen counts are not representative of exposure to the major olive allergen Ole e 1
Pollen is routinely monitored, but it is unknown whether pollen counts represent
allergen exposure. We therefore simultaneously determined olive pollen and Ole e
1 in ambient air in C ordoba, Spain, and Evora, Portugal, using Hirst-type traps
for pollen and high-volume cascade impactors for allergen.
Pollen from different days released 12-fold different amounts of Ole e 1 per
pollen (both locations P < 0.001). Average allergen release from pollen (pollen
potency) was much higher in C ordoba (3.9 pg Ole e 1/pollen) than in Evora
(0.8 pg Ole e 1/pollen, P = 0.004). Indeed, yearly olive pollen counts in C ordoba
were 2.4 times higher than in Evora, but Ole e 1 concentrations were 7.6 times
higher. When modeling the origin of the pollen, >40% of Ole e 1 exposure in
Evora was explained by high-potency pollen originating from the south of Spain.
Thus, olive pollen can vary substantially in allergen release, even though they are
morphologically identical
Factors affecting the transfer of learning to the workplace
Training aims to respond to the needs of development of individuals and organizations (Grohmann & Kauffeld, 2013). Based on Holton model, we carried out a study seeking to identify and understand the factors involved in the process of learning transfer to the workplace from two different training actions on the design and skills. The study took place at a Portuguese organization and involved 98 participants. Former students were interviewed with the purpose to explore the factors that facilitated or hindered the learning transfer, and the Inventory of the Portuguese version of the Learning Transfer System (Holton, Bates, Seyler & Carvalho, 1997; Velada & Caetano, 2009) was applied. The results suggest that the Holton model (2005) shows that the trainees have identified important issues for learning transfer and that there are differences in relation to the transfer factor pursuant to the type of training.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
High Cysteinyl Leukotriene Receptor 1 Expression Correlates with Poor Survival of Uveal Melanoma Patients and Cognate Antagonist Drugs Modulate the Growth, Cancer Secretome, and Metabolism of Uveal Melanoma Cells
Simple Summary This research investigates the disease relevance and therapeutic potential of cysteinyl leukotriene receptors in uveal melanoma (UM), a rare eye cancer that often spreads to the liver. Unfortunately, there are no therapies available to stop the spread of UM and patients are often faced with an extremely poor prognosis. We assess whether the cysteinyl leukotriene receptors (CysLT(1) and CysLT(2)) are relevant to the progression of UM. Using UM patient samples, we identified that increased levels of CysLT(1) in tumours is associated with reduced patient survival. Using UM cell lines and zebrafish models, we found that drugs targeting CysLT(1), but not CysLT(2), can alter hallmarks of cancer including cell growth, proliferation, and metabolism. This study is the first to examine the relationship of the CysLT receptors with clinical features of UM. Our data strengthen the importance of CysLT signalling in UM and suggest that antagonism of CysLT(1) may be of therapeutic interest in the disease. Metastatic uveal melanoma (UM) is a rare, but often lethal, form of ocular cancer arising from melanocytes within the uveal tract. UM has a high propensity to spread hematogenously to the liver, with up to 50% of patients developing liver metastases. Unfortunately, once liver metastasis occurs, patient prognosis is extremely poor with as few as 8% of patients surviving beyond two years. There are no standard-of-care therapies available for the treatment of metastatic UM, hence it is a clinical area of urgent unmet need. Here, the clinical relevance and therapeutic potential of cysteinyl leukotriene receptors (CysLT(1) and CysLT(2)) in UM was evaluated. High expression of CYSLTR1 or CYSLTR2 transcripts is significantly associated with poor disease-free survival and poor overall survival in UM patients. Digital pathology analysis identified that high expression of CysLT(1) in primary UM is associated with reduced disease-specific survival (p = 0.012; HR 2.76; 95% CI 1.21-6.3) and overall survival (p = 0.011; HR 1.46; 95% CI 0.67-3.17). High CysLT(1) expression shows a statistically significant (p = 0.041) correlation with ciliary body involvement, a poor prognostic indicator in UM. Small molecule drugs targeting CysLT(1) were vastly superior at exerting anti-cancer phenotypes in UM cell lines and zebrafish xenografts than drugs targeting CysLT(2). Quininib, a selective CysLT(1) antagonist(,) significantly inhibits survival (p < 0.0001), long-term proliferation (p < 0.0001), and oxidative phosphorylation (p < 0.001), but not glycolysis, in primary and metastatic UM cell lines. Quininib exerts opposing effects on the secretion of inflammatory markers in primary versus metastatic UM cell lines. Quininib significantly downregulated IL-2 and IL-6 in Mel285 cells (p < 0.05) but significantly upregulated IL-10, IL-1 beta, IL-2 (p < 0.0001), IL-13, IL-8 (p < 0.001), IL-12p70 and IL-6 (p < 0.05) in OMM2.5 cells. Finally, quininib significantly inhibits tumour growth in orthotopic zebrafish xenograft models of UM. These preclinical data suggest that antagonism of CysLT(1), but not CysLT(2), may be of therapeutic interest in the treatment of UM
Decoupling property of the supersymmetric Higgs sector with four doublets
In supersymmetric standard models with multi Higgs doublet fields,
selfcoupling constants in the Higgs potential come only from the D-terms at the
tree level. We investigate the decoupling property of additional two heavier
Higgs doublet fields in the supersymmetric standard model with four Higgs
doublets. In particular, we study how they can modify the predictions on the
quantities well predicted in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM),
when the extra doublet fields are rather heavy to be measured at collider
experiments. The B-term mixing between these extra heavy Higgs bosons and the
relatively light MSSM-like Higgs bosons can significantly change the
predictions in the MSSM such as on the masses of MSSM-like Higgs bosons as well
as the mixing angle for the two light CP-even scalar states. We first give
formulae for deviations in the observables of the MSSM in the decoupling region
for the extra two doublet fields. We then examine possible deviations in the
Higgs sector numerically, and discuss their phenomenological implications.Comment: 26 pages, 24 figures, text sligtly modified, version to appear in

Entanglement and Density Matrix of a Block of Spins in AKLT Model
We study a 1-dimensional AKLT spin chain, consisting of spins in the bulk
and at both ends. The unique ground state of this AKLT model is described
by the Valence-Bond-Solid (VBS) state. We investigate the density matrix of a
contiguous block of bulk spins in this ground state. It is shown that the
density matrix is a projector onto a subspace of dimension . This
subspace is described by non-zero eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors of
the density matrix. We prove that for large block the von Neumann entropy
coincides with Renyi entropy and is equal to .Comment: Revised version, typos corrected, references added, 31 page
Belle II Technical Design Report
The Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider has collected
almost 1 billion Y(4S) events in its decade of operation. Super-KEKB, an
upgrade of KEKB is under construction, to increase the luminosity by two orders
of magnitude during a three-year shutdown, with an ultimate goal of 8E35 /cm^2
/s luminosity. To exploit the increased luminosity, an upgrade of the Belle
detector has been proposed. A new international collaboration Belle-II, is
being formed. The Technical Design Report presents physics motivation, basic
methods of the accelerator upgrade, as well as key improvements of the
detector.Comment: Edited by: Z. Dole\v{z}al and S. Un
