Weighted inequalities and vector-valued Calderón-Zygmund operators on non-homogeneous spaces
Recently, F. Nazarov, S. Treil and A. Volberg (and independently X. Tolsa) have extended the classical theory of Calderón-Zygmund operators to the context of a "non-homogeneous" space (X, d, µ), where, in particular, the measure µ may be non-doubling. In the present work we study weighted inequalities for these operators. Specifically, for 1 < p < [infinity], we identify sufficient conditions for the weight on one side, which guarantee the existence of another weight in the other side, so that the weighted Lp inequality holds. We deal with this problem by developing a vector-valued theory for Calderón-Zygmund operators on non-homogeneous spaces which is interesting in its own right. For the case of the Cauchy integral operator, which is the most important example, we even prove that the conditions for the weights are also necessary

Weighted norm inequalities, off-diagonal estimates and elliptic operators. Part I: General operator theory and weights
This is the first part of a series of four articles. In this work, we are
interested in weighted norm estimates. We put the emphasis on two results of
different nature: one is based on a good- inequality with
two-parameters and the other uses Calder\'on-Zygmund decomposition. These
results apply well to singular 'non-integral' operators and their commutators
with bounded mean oscillation functions. Singular means that they are of order
0, 'non-integral' that they do not have an integral representation by a kernel
with size estimates, even rough, so that they may not be bounded on all
spaces for . Pointwise estimates are then replaced by
appropriate localized estimates. We obtain weighted estimates
for a range of that is different from and isolate the right
class of weights. In particular, we prove an extrapolation theorem ' \`a la
Rubio de Francia' for such a class and thus vector-valued estimates.Comment: 43 pages. Series of 4 paper
De Klinberg a la educación superior actual, exigencias a la evaluación
Introduction: in the process of evaluation of learning, the need for a developing and integrating character has been implicit in both the international and national spheres. Objective: to establish methodological recommendations based on an integrative conception of the evaluation of learning from the discipline of General Pedagogical Formation.Development: in order to move towards excellence in the direction of the Aulic Pedagogical Process, it is necessary that creation be an incentive comprise all the factors that intervene in the educational system. Professors and students are direct protagonists of the evaluation process, other external evaluators are farther away from the process, and many times theory takes precedence over practice and vice versa. The idea is to fulfill this principle (theory-practical unit), and that the act of evaluating learning process constitutes an enhancer of the pedagogical processes of excellence, and its quality, which will contribute to the effective educational institutions and systemsConclusions: the bridging of evaluation of the teaching-learning process in the methodological work is a need for the evaluators and for those assessed, who must begin by resizing the functions of teaching to search for an integrative conception that leads to the fulfillment of the methodological recommendations from their dimensions and indicators, as well as making evident the unity of the affective-cognitive-value in the actions of those assessed.
Calibrations of Atmospheric Parameters Obtained from the First Year of SDSS-III APOGEE Observations
The SDSS-III Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE)
is a three year survey that is collecting 100,000 high-resolution spectra in
the near-IR across multiple Galactic populations. To derive stellar parameters
and chemical compositions from this massive data set, the APOGEE Stellar
Parameters and Chemical Abundances Pipeline (ASPCAP) has been developed. Here,
we describe empirical calibrations of stellar parameters presented in the first
SDSS-III APOGEE data release (DR10). These calibrations were enabled by
observations of 559 stars in 20 globular and open clusters. The cluster
observations were supplemented by observations of stars in NASA's Kepler field
that have well determined surface gravities from asteroseismic analysis. We
discuss the accuracy and precision of the derived stellar parameters,
considering especially effective temperature, surface gravity, and metallicity;
we also briefly discuss the derived results for the abundances of the
alpha-elements, carbon, and nitrogen. Overall, we find that ASPCAP achieves
reasonably accurate results for temperature and metallicity, but suffers from
systematic errors in surface gravity. We derive calibration relations that
bring the raw ASPCAP results into better agreement with independently
determined stellar parameters. The internal scatter of ASPCAP parameters within
clusters suggests that, metallicities are measured with a precision better than
0.1 dex, effective temperatures better than 150 K, and surface gravities better
than 0.2 dex. The understanding provided by the clusters and Kepler giants on
the current accuracy and precision will be invaluable for future improvements
of the pipeline.Comment: 40 pages, 15 figures, 4 tables, accepted to A
Denervación renal en el tratamiento de la hipertensión arterial. Posicionamiento conjunto de la SEH-LELHA y la ACI-SEC
Hypertension is the most prevalent cardiovascular risk factor. Despite pharmacological treatment, a high percentage of patients do not achieve an adequate blood pressure control. Renal sympathetic denervation is a minimally invasive intervention for the management of hypertension involving the interruption of the renal artery sympathetic nervous system using a catheter-based approach. The early studies showed promising results, but the controversial results coming from the SYMPLICITY HTN-3 trial sent this technique into oblivion. Over the last 3 years, new clinical trials have appeared including new devices used in different populations, which definitively proves the effectiveness of renal sympathetic denervation. This joint position statement from the Spanish Society of Hypertension-Spanish League for Combating High Blood Pressure (SEH-LELHA), and the Interventional Cardiology Association of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (ACI-SEC) reviews the evidence available on the efficacy and safety profile of renal sympathetic denervation for the management of hypertension. Based on the results of clinical trials, recommendations have been established on what patients may be eligible for renal sympathetic denervation and under what circumstances
Sharp weighted estimates for classical operators
We give a new proof of the sharp one weight inequality for any operator
that can be approximated by Haar shift operators such as the Hilbert
transform, any Riesz transform, the Beurling-Ahlfors operator. Our proof avoids
the Bellman function technique and two weight norm inequalities. We use instead
a recent result due to A. Lerner to estimate the oscillation of dyadic
operators. Our method is flexible enough to prove the corresponding sharp
one-weight norm inequalities for some operators of harmonic analysis: the
maximal singular integrals associated to , Dyadic square functions and
paraproducts, and the vector-valued maximal operator of C. Fefferman-Stein.
Also we can derive a very sharp two-weight bump type condition for .Comment: We improve different parts of the first version, in particular we
show the sharpness of our theorem for the vector-valued maximal functio
Posttreatment of olive mill wastewater by immobilized TiO2 photocatalysis
A photocatalytic reactor with UV/TiO2 was used for the post-treatment of olive mill wastewater after anaerobic digestion. A factorial experimental design was adopted to determine the statistical significance of each parameter tested, namely initial COD, pH, treatment time and recirculation flow, and possible interactions, in three response variables: phenols, colour, and COD removals. Removal efficiencies of 90.8 ± 2.7 %, 79.3 ± 1.9 %, and 50.3 ± 6.3 % were obtained for total phenols (TPh), colour, and COD, respectively. TPh and colour were almost completely removed after 24 h of treatment, while the COD removal was partial. Because increasing the treatment time is economically unfeasible a recirculation to the anaerobic reactor should be considered. Regarding the most significant variables, the TPh removal efficiency is dependent of the initial COD concentration; the colour removal efficiency decreased with increasing COD concentration and pH; and, the COD removal efficiency is directly linked with the treatment time. The interaction between the initial COD and treatment time affect negatively the response variables tested because of the inactivation of some active sites of the TiO2 paper. The Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) and the European Social Fund (ESF, POPH-QREN) gave financial support through the Post-Doctoral grant attributed to Jose Carlos Costa (SFRH/BDP/48 962/2008) and through the project PTDC/ENR/69 755/2006.
