Functional implications of minor mandibular asymmetry: clinical and digital research on a sample of healthy patients
OBJECTIVE.The aim of the study is to evaluate the influence that the mandibular asymmetry could have towards the other components of the Stomathognatic system and to further related structures from a functional point of view. MATERIALS and METHODS. A sample of 18 young asymmetric patients, in healthy status, was investigated with clinical evaluation and questionnaires and digital devices such as Electromiography, Stabilometry, T-scan and Formetric. Descriptive and quantitative statistical analysis were performed. RESULTS. ASIM electromyography index was significant only in a short percentage of the sample. Hypertonia of temporalis muscle in the same side of mandibular deviation and the cross-activation of the contralateral masseter were present. The data of the stabilometric platform showed that only 33% of patients had a load discrepancy between right and left side. All patients presented similar and limited postural anomalies during the Formetric examination. No significant results emerged from statistics . CONCLUSIONS. From the emerging data, mandibular asymmetry does not seem to be considered a potential risk factor for the development of functional anomalies both in the stomatognatic system and in the postural one. The only issue that should be considered is the condylar retrusion of the mandibular shortest side that is a possible destabilizing factor of the TMJ condyle-disc coordination
Critical thermodynamics of the two-dimensional +/-J Ising spin glass
We compute the exact partition function of 2d Ising spin glasses with binary
couplings. In these systems, the ground state is highly degenerate and is
separated from the first excited state by a gap of size 4J. Nevertheless, we
find that the low temperature specific heat density scales as exp(-2J/T),
corresponding to an ``effective'' gap of size 2J; in addition, an associated
cross-over length scale grows as exp(J/T). We justify these scalings via the
degeneracy of the low-lying excitations and by the way low energy domain walls
proliferate in this model

Delayed eruption of permanent dentition and maxillary contraction in patients with cleidocranial dysplasia: review and report of a family
Introduction. Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is an inherited disease caused by mutations in the RUNX2 gene on chromosome 6p21. This pathology, autosomal dominant or caused by a spontaneous genetic mutation, is present in one in one million individuals, with complete penetrance and widely variable expressivity. Aim. To identify the incidence of these clinical findings in the report of the literature by means of PubMed interface from 2002 to 2015, with the related keywords. The report of local patients presents a clinical example, related to the therapeutic approach. Results and Discussions. The PubMed research resulted in 122 articles. All the typical signs were reported in all presented cases. The maxilla was hypoplastic in 94% of the patients. Missing of permanent teeth was found in two cases: one case presented a class II jaw relationship, instead of class III malocclusion. Similar findings were present in our cohort. Conclusion. CCD is challenging for both the dental team and the patient. The treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach. Further studies are required to better understand the cause of this disease. According to this review, a multistep approach enhances the possibilities to achieve the recovery of the most possible number of teeth, as such to obtain a good occlusion and a better aesthetic
Ground State Wave Function of the Schr\"odinger Equation in a Time-Periodic Potential
Using a generalized transfer matrix method we exactly solve the Schr\"odinger
equation in a time periodic potential, with discretized Euclidean space-time.
The ground state wave function propagates in space and time with an oscillating
soliton-like wave packet and the wave front is wedge shaped. In a statistical
mechanics framework our solution represents the partition sum of a directed
polymer subjected to a potential layer with alternating (attractive and

Clear aligners: between evolution and efficiency—a scoping review
In recent years, clear aligners have diversified and evolved in their primary characteristics (material, gingival margin design, attachments, divots, auxiliaries), increasing their indications and efficiency. We overviewed the brands of aligners used in Italy and reviewed the literature on the evolution of clear aligners based on their characteristics mentioned above by consulting the main scientific databases (PubMed, Scopus, Lilacs, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library). Inclusion and ex-clusion criteria were established. The data were collected on a purpose-made data collection form and analyzed descriptively. From the initial 580 records, 527 were excluded because they were not related to the subject of the review or because they did not meet the eligibility criteria. The remaining 31 studies were deemed comprehensive for the purpose of the review, although the “gingival margin design” feature and “auxiliaries” tool are not well represented in the more recent literature. Current knowledge on invisible aligners allows us to have a much clearer idea of the basic characteristics of aligner systems. There remains a need to deepen the use of systems other than In-visalign™ to give greater evidence to aligners that are very different based on the characteristics analyzed here and that are very widespread on the market
Exact Ground States of Large Two-Dimensional Planar Ising Spin Glasses
Studying spin-glass physics through analyzing their ground-state properties
has a long history. Although there exist polynomial-time algorithms for the
two-dimensional planar case, where the problem of finding ground states is
transformed to a minimum-weight perfect matching problem, the reachable system
sizes have been limited both by the needed CPU time and by memory requirements.
In this work, we present an algorithm for the calculation of exact ground
states for two-dimensional Ising spin glasses with free boundary conditions in
at least one direction. The algorithmic foundations of the method date back to
the work of Kasteleyn from the 1960s for computing the complete partition
function of the Ising model. Using Kasteleyn cities, we calculate exact ground
states for huge two-dimensional planar Ising spin-glass lattices (up to
3000x3000 spins) within reasonable time. According to our knowledge, these are
the largest sizes currently available. Kasteleyn cities were recently also used
by Thomas and Middleton in the context of extended ground states on the torus.
Moreover, they show that the method can also be used for computing ground
states of planar graphs. Furthermore, we point out that the correctness of
heuristically computed ground states can easily be verified. Finally, we
evaluate the solution quality of heuristic variants of the Bieche et al.

A Prototype Model of Stock Exchange
A prototype model of stock market is introduced and studied numerically. In
this self-organized system, we consider only the interaction among traders
without external influences. Agents trade according to their own strategy, to
accumulate his assets by speculating on the price's fluctuations which are
produced by themselves. The model reproduced rather realistic price histories
whose statistical properties are also similar to those observed in real

Finite Temperature Depinning of a Flux Line from a Nonuniform Columnar Defect
A flux line in a Type-II superconductor with a single nonuniform columnar
defect is studied by a perturbative diagrammatic expansion around an annealed
approximation. The system undergoes a finite temperature depinning transition
for the (rather unphysical) on-the-average repulsive columnar defect, provided
that the fluctuations along the axis are sufficiently large to cause some
portions of the column to become attractive. The perturbative expansion is
convergent throughout the weak pinning regime and becomes exact as the
depinning transition is approached, providing an exact determination of the
