The influence of mineral fillers on mechanical properties of polyvinyl chloride composites

    Get PDF
The paper reports the investigation results of tensile stress-strain properties of filled PVC composite during static and low cycle testing. The distinctive features of composite mechanical behavior depending on the content of dispersed mineral fillers which are basically industrial waste are established. It is revealed that small filler additives have a strong influence on the structural behavior that manifest itself as their abnormal change depending on the filler content. The experimental data obtained are explained based on the modern ideas about structural morphological model of base polymer structure. © IDOSI Publications, 2013

Temperature change calculation at welding products

    Get PDF
Thermal calculation of the welded seams was conducted, made from heat resisting austenitic steel 10X11H20T2P by argon-arc welding. Schedules of temperature increment are constructed during various time moments on mode parameters existing on technology manufacture and on offered welding conditions. Structure forecasting opportunity and mechanical properties of welded connection various zones is shown: a welded seam, weld lines, zones of thermal influence and basic metal by calculation of temperature field changing in time. Calculation data are received at use of standard methods of calculation and under general formulas. Basic methods of experimental temperature test are considered at welding and computer application in calculations of temperature fields. Recommendations are given at the welding modes choice for prevention of hot cracks formation, namely, welding speed reduction up to 6 km/h is recommended. © IDOSI Publications, 2014

Aims. To consider factors associated with adverse outcome among hospitalized patients with moderate and severe COVID-19.Materials and methods. Data from 345 case histories of adult patients hospitalized with moderate to severe COVID-19 were analyzed in a single-center retrospective study. Characteristics by sex, age, number of days from disease onset to admission to hospital, duration of hospitalization, duration of disease, population characteristics by medical history of comorbidities and self-medication, outcome of hospitalization and medical technologies used in hospital conditions were given for the whole cohort of patients. All parameters were analyzed using descriptive statistics methods. Qualitative variables are given in absolute (n) and relative (%) values with 95% confidence interval. Continuous variables were presented as median and quartiles. Risk factors for mortality were determined across groups using the χ2  criterion and odds ratio.Results. There was no demonstrated effect of gender, degree of pulmonary tissue lesions on computed tomography data, or time of initiation of respiratory support on disease outcome. At the same time, the age older than 65 years as well as neoplasms, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dementia, Stage 3 arterial hypertension, chronic heart failure, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction and stroke history, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectatic disease, urogenital diseases were the predictors of unfavorable outcome in patients with moderate and severe COVID-19 form. Prehospital use of antiplatelet agents, direct and indirect oral anticoagulants, drugs affecting the renin-angiotensin system, systemic glucocorticosteroids, antibiotics, antiviral drugs, and analgesics was associated with a decrease in the mortality rate in patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19, as well as timely use of pronposition and transfer to intensive care unit.Conclusions. Our findings are partially consistent with previous reports on the effect of risk factors on COVID-19 outcomes

Increased fidelity of protein synthesis extends lifespan

Loss of proteostasis is a fundamental process driving aging. Proteostasis is affected by the accuracy of translation, yet the physiological consequence of having fewer protein synthesis errors during multi-cellular organismal aging is poorly understood. Our phylogenetic analysis of RPS23, a key protein in the ribosomal decoding center, uncovered a lysine residue almost universally conserved across all domains of life, which is replaced by an arginine in a small number of hyperthermophilic archaea. When introduced into eukaryotic RPS23 homologs, this mutation leads to accurate translation, as well as heat shock resistance and longer life, in yeast, worms, and flies. Furthermore, we show that anti-aging drugs such as rapamycin, Torin1, and trametinib reduce translation errors, and that rapamycin extends further organismal longevity in RPS23 hyperaccuracy mutants. This implies a unified mode of action for diverse pharmacological anti-aging therapies. These findings pave the way for identifying novel translation accuracy interventions to improve aging

Parameterization of microstructures in material science and material technology

The article deals with possible applications of multi-fractal parameterization of microstructures (MFP) fields of material science and welding. MFP is successfully used for fine selection of microstructures, specification of thermal treatment modes and others. Experimental data were recorded for samples manufactured from steels of austenitic class. The research also comprises data on dependence of grain size upon multi-fractal parameters of uniformity and orderliness got by other authors. The study suggests algorithm of predicting Vickers hardness on basis of multi-fractal parameterization of metallographic specimen by means of calculating the parameters of uniformity and orderliness. Program created on basis of algorithm allows analyze microstructure to determine the grain size. © IDOSI Publications, 2013

Successful Surgery of Severely Comorbid Cystic Pulmonary Hypoplasia

Background. Cystic pulmonary hypoplasia is a malformation of terminal bronchial tree as a cystic dilatation of various size at the level of subsegmental bronchi or bronchioles, which accounts for 60–80% of the overall malformation incidence.Materials and methods. We present a descriptive case of general clinical picture, diagnostic radiological examination and choosing a strategy for surgical diagnosis and treatment of cystic pulmonary hypoplasia. Patient K., 57 yo, was admitted to the Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Dispensary with fibroatelectasis of the right lung lower lobe and underlying subcompensated diabetes type II, inspected by a phthisiatrician, thoracic surgeon and referred for surgical treatment. Results and discussion. A careful history inspection and Xray data in most cases suffice to successfully diagnose the congenital type of cystic pulmonary defects. Treatment in such patients is personalised, with preference towards surgical intervention. A correct diagnosis is usually conditioned by a detailed and careful examination of the lung morbid morphology during surgery.Conclusion. Modern instrumental methods, with multispiral computed tomography in particular, are key to correctly diagnose a malformation. Relevant case reports are of interest and importance to advance research into causative factors of the disease
