Bladder outlet obstruction in painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis

Aims Obstructive symptoms such as slow stream, dribbling and straining are often reported by painful bladder syndrome and interstitial cystitis (PBS/IC) patients. Our hypothesis was that some patients with PBS/IC have an associated measurable bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) secondary to dysfunctional voiding and that those patients with more severe PBS/IC are more likely to have BOO. Methods This is a retrospective chart review of female patients diagnosed with PBS/IC based on the NIDDK research definition. Charts were reviewed for clinical symptom severity, ulcer or non-ulcer PBS/IC on cystoscopy, and pressure-flow urodynamics (UDPF). Patients were excluded if they had a urinary infection at the time of urodynamics or did not meet study entry requirements. The cut-off values of ≤12 ml/sec and ≥25 cm of water was used to define BOO. Results Of the 231 women: 38 had ulcer PBS/IC and 193 had non-ulcer PBS/IC. MCC was 269 ml in non-ulcer PBS/IC and 200 ml in ulcer PBS/IC ( P  = 0.006). One hundred eleven women (48%) met criteria for obstruction. MCC was 298 ml in the non-obstructed group and 214 ml in the obstructed group ( P  < 0.0001). The maximum flow with non-ulcer PBS/IC was 11.0 ml/sec and in ulcer PBS/IC 8.9 ml/sec ( P  = 0.04) Detrusor pressure at maximum flow was 33.3 cm H 2 O, in non-ulcer, and 37.4 cm H 2 O in ulcer PBS/IC ( P  = 0.01). Conclusions Forty-eight percent of our PBS/IC patients have BOO, and increasing severity of PBS/IC is associated with higher voiding pressure. Neurourol. A Statistical Calibration Method of Propagation Prediction Model Based on Measurement Results

Radio environment maps (REMs) are beginning to be an integral part of modern mobile radiocommunication systems and networks, especially for ad-hoc, cognitive, and dynamic spectrum access networks. The REMs will use emerging military systems of tactical communications. The REM is a kind of database used at the stage of planning and management of the radio resources and networks, which considers the geographical features of an area, environmental propagation properties, as well as the parameters of radio network elements and available services. At the REM, for spatial management of network nodes, various methods of propagation modeling for determining the attenuation and capacity of wireless links and radio ranges are used. One method of propagation prediction is based on a numerical solution of the wave equation in a parabolic form, which allows considering, i.a., atmospheric refraction, terrain shape, and soil electrical parameters. However, the determination of a current altitudinal profile of atmospheric refraction may be a problem. If the propagation-prediction model uses a fixed refraction profile, then the calibration of this model based on empirical measurements is required. We propose a methodology for calibrating the analyzed model based on an example empirical research scenario. The paper presents descriptions of the propagation model, test-bed and scenario used in measurements, and obtained signal attenuation results, which are used for the initial calibration of the model

Performance of CDMA systems with Walsh and PN coding, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2001, nr 2

Wideband CDMA method has been recently investigated for its using in the future communication systems. Such systems capacity depends on many factors, the main is multi-access interference (MAI). MAI is an inherent CDMA property connected to correlation characteristics of codes used to access and to spreading. The influence on CDMA performance of these codes families and parameters is presented in this paper. The standard Gaussian approximation has been used for interference analysis. Bit error rate (BER) on detector output is a measure of interference influence on transmission quality. It can be used for SNRi evaluation on receiver input for channel assignment and handover procedures. The results of interference analysis for the pseudo-noise sequences (M-sequences, Gold, de’Bruin and Jennings) as well as for the Walsh orthogonal mapping are presented in this paper

A new method of frequency offset correction using coherent averaging, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2005, nr 1

This paper describes a new method of frequency offset correction to improve clock stability in communication systems where the temporary drift or jitter of phase angle is not accepted. This method bases on coherent spectral averaging with a special phase scanning algorithm. Achieved results show that proposed method is effective for strongly degraded signals. Method is useful for precise phase angle reconstruction in these systems where clock stability of the transceiver and receiver is insufficient

New model of identity checking in telecommunication digital channels, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2006, nr 3

We proposed an OFDM and watermarking based technology system for correspondent identity verification (CIVS) in military telecommunication digital channels. Correspondent personal identity signature (CPIS) is represented by digital watermark. The main idea of this system solution is to verify the end user who sends acoustic signal, e.g., speech, music, etc., via Internet, HF/UHF radio, modem, etc. OFDM modulation scheme is used to prepare secret digital signature. This signature is a single-use secret key used for correspondent verification, thus binary sequence of that key is changing for every session. We describe transmitter and receiver block scheme. The results of experiments for both ideal and degraded signals are described in details too. The results are summarized with comments and conclusion
