Stable Algorithm for Extraction of Asymmetries from the Data on Polarized Lepton-Nucleon Scattering
A new algorithm for extraction of asymmetries from polarized lepton-nucleon
scattering data is proposed. The algorithm is stable to set-up acceptance
and/or luminosity monitor acceptance variations. A statistical test for
checking the data quality is proposed.Comment: 10 pages, latex + 4 eps figure
Chi-Square Tests for Comparing Weighted Histograms
Weighted histograms in Monte Carlo simulations are often used for the
estimation of probability density functions. They are obtained as a result of
random experiments with random events that have weights. In this paper, the bin
contents of a weighted histogram are considered as a sum of random variables
with a random number of terms. Generalizations of the classical chi-square test
for comparing weighted histograms was proposed. Numerical examples illustrate
an application of the tests for the histograms with different statistics of
events and different weighted functions. The proposed tests can be used for the
comparison of experimental data histograms with simulated data histograms, as
well as for the two simulated data histograms.Comment: 26 pages, 8 figure
Tagged-photon events in polarized DIS process
Deep-inelastic events for the scattering of the longitudinally polarized
electron by polarized proton with tagged collinear photon radiated from
initial-state electron are considered. The corresponding cross-section is
derived in the Born approximation. The model-independent radiative corrections
to the Born cross-section are also calculated. Obtained result is applied to
the case of elastic scattering.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures, submitted to JET
The Flavor Asymmetry of the Light Quark Sea from Semi-inclusive Deep-inelastic Scattering
The flavor asymmetry of the light quark sea of the nucleon is determined in
the kinematic range 0.02<x<0.3 and 1 GeV^2<Q^2<10 GeV^2, for the first time
from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. The quantity
(dbar(x)-ubar(x))/(u(x)-d(x)) is derived from a relationship between the yields
of positive and negative pions from unpolarized hydrogen and deuterium targets.
The flavor asymmetry dbar-ubar is found to be non-zero and x dependent, showing
an excess of dbar over ubar quarks in the proton.Comment: 7 Pages, 2 figures, RevTeX format; slight revision in text, small
change in extraction of dbar-ubar and comparison with a high q2

Determination of the Deep Inelastic Contribution to the Generalised Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn Integral for the Proton and Neutron
The virtual photon absorption cross section differences [sigma_1/2-sigma_3/2]
for the proton and neutron have been determined from measurements of polarised
cross section asymmetries in deep inelastic scattering of 27.5 GeV
longitudinally polarised positrons from polarised 1H and 3He internal gas
targets. The data were collected in the region above the nucleon resonances in
the kinematic range nu < 23.5 GeV and 0.8 GeV**2 < Q**2 < 12 GeV**2. For the
proton the contribution to the generalised Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn integral was
found to be substantial and must be included for an accurate determination of
the full integral. Furthermore the data are consistent with a QCD
next-to-leading order fit based on previous deep inelastic scattering data.
Therefore higher twist effects do not appear significant.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, revte
Observation of a Coherence Length Effect in Exclusive Rho^0 Electroproduction
Exclusive incoherent electroproduction of the rho^0(770) meson from 1H, 2H,
3He, and 14N targets has been studied by the HERMES experiment at squared
four-momentum transfer Q**2>0.4 GeV**2 and positron energy loss nu from 9 to 20
GeV. The ratio of the 14N to 1H cross sections per nucleon, known as the
nuclear transparency, was found to decrease with increasing coherence length of
quark-antiquark fluctuations of the virtual photon. The data provide clear
evidence of the interaction of the quark- antiquark fluctuations with the
nuclear medium.Comment: RevTeX, 5 pages, 3 figure
Azimuthal anisotropy of K0s and Lambda prduction at mid-rapidity from Au+Au collisions at root s = 130 GeV
We report STAR results on the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v2 for strange
particles K0S, L and Lbar at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sNN = 130 GeV
at RHIC. The value of v2 as a function of transverse momentum of the produced
particles pt and collision centrality is presented for both particles up to pt
3.0 GeV/c. A strong pt dependence in v2 is observed up to 2.0 GeV/c. The v2
measurement is compared with hydrodynamic model calculations. The physics
implications of the pt integrated v2 magnitude as a function of particle mass
are also discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, by the STAR collaboratio
Azimuthal anisotropy of K0S and Lambda + Lambda -bar production at midrapidity from Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV
We report STAR results on the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v2 for strange particles K0S, Lambda , and Lambda -bar at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The value of v2 as a function of transverse momentum, pt, of the produced particle and collision centrality is presented for both particles up to pt~3.0 GeV/c. A strong pt dependence in v2 is observed up to 2.0 GeV/c. The v2 measurement is compared with hydrodynamic model calculations. The physics implications of the pt integrated v2 magnitude as a function of particle mass are also discussed.Alle Autoren: C. Adler, Z. Ahammed, C. Allgower, J. Amonett, B. D. Anderson, M.
