Banks, like other sectors of the economy in time of financial crisis, have to focus on other products, not requiring a risky capital-intensive involvement. The new model is just being set up, profitable customers found, rationalization of sales introduced, as well as the further computerization of banking processes. Banking is still an attractive form of investment and as such needs a more efficient development strategy. Investors should be motivated to use the bank offers. The purpose of this article is to identify both signs of financial crisis with the trend of activities of commercial banks for their development and support for customers of commercial banks. Thesis of this work is the recognition that the commercial banks suffer milder effects of the financial crisis than their customers, and that their adjustments take place mainly at the expense of bank customers, while providing incentives to invest customers' savings in banks

The provision of funds to finance environmental projects in Poland by banks is a relatively new, although fast developing, activity in the financial markets. This system is based on (national, provincial, county and municipal) institutional environment protection and water management funds completed with international aid resources. Banks cooperate with such funds by treating environmental actions as a market where they may expand their lending business. The participation of commercial banks in the finance of environmental projects is a global trend constituting a challenge for banks in Poland, as well, which mostly determines their strategic economic decisions. Performing a function as a middleman banks guarantee themselves notable benefits with relatively small level of risk so they readily create offers which attract investors. The purpose of this article is to describe the role of commercial banks in financing investments concerning environmental protection in Poland. We argue that the banking sector in Poland still plays a small role in the finance of environmental protection and there is necessity to stimulate banks into action in this economic issue in 2007-2013

Social relationship quality among women with spinal cord injury – the role of disability acceptance

    Get PDF
Interpersonal relationships among women with spinal cord injury are limited due to numerous barriers. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of disability acceptance in terms of the quality of social relationships among women with spinal cord injury. Social relationship quality was conceptualised as a construct that included two indicators, namely strength of relationship and social support. Ninety (N=90) women with spinal cord injury completed the Strength of Interpersonal Relationships Questionnaire (Zbieg and Słowińska, 2015), Social Support Scale (Kmiecik-Baran, 1995), and Multidimensional Acceptance of Loss Scale (Byra, 2017). Such methodological tools as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis (Pearson’s correlation coefficients) and progressive stepwise regression analysis were used. The study showed that the most important value for the surveyed women was the time devoted to relationships. The most frequent kinds of received support were informational and emotional. In addition, the most common change in the perception of disability acceptance was the containment of its effects and a transformation from comparative value to asset value. A significant correlation between the included variables was observed. It is also well worth mentioning that the two subscales of disability acceptance entailed a predictive function in explaining social relationship quality; however, the two subscales explained a surprisingly low percentage of observed variance. It is reasonable to suggest other ways of explaining this phenomenon

Artykuł dotyczy jednego z aspektów bilingwalizmu, tj. sposobów kojarzenia słów w języku pierwszym (LI) i w języku obcym (L2). Dane zostały zebrane na podstawie testów skojarzeń słów o wysokiej częstotliwości występowania, którym poddano dwie grupy studentów o różnych językach pierwszych. Grupę pierwszą stanowili studenci polscy z zaawansowaną znajomością języka angielskiego, a drugą - studenci portugalscy, rownież zaawansowani w zakresie kompetencji w języku angielskim. Analiza danych pokazała, w jakim stopniu skojarzenia w języku pierwszym i drugim wykazują podobieństwa oraz rożnice kulturowe pomiędzy dwiema badanym grupami

From the Northwest Passage to the Canadian Inland Waters: Political History of the Canadian Arctic Waters, "Ad Americam", vol. 9, pp. 49-59. The North is one of the most important Canadian myths. Northern geography and concern for the North are treated by Canadians as distinct features, symbols of their country and an important part of their national identity. The theme of my presentation is a change in the official name of the Canadian northern sea route through the Arctic Archipelago, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and is the shortest way from the east to west coasts of North America. For centuries the passage has been referred to as the Northwest Passage and has become part of a northern myth. However, in 2006 the Canadian Army decided to change the official name to the Canadian Inland Waters. The alteration was politically motivated and has its roots in a controversy over the legal status of the channels and straits of the Northwest Passage, which started at the end of the 1960s. At the beginning of the 21st century, the debate resurfaced once again because of the effects of global warming. The northern mythology once again is becoming visible

The objective of the present article is to analyze Sine ira, the cycle of sketches by Adam Grzymała-Siedlecki, as a testimony of Stefan Żeromski’s impact on shaping historical and political ideas of his times, but also as the new manner the works of a known artist functioned on the pages of „Illustrated Weekly”. After having presented current reviews and publication of Żeromski’s oeuvre, in 1912 the editors of the Warsaw journal offer its readers a critical overview of The History of Sin and Rose, both inspired by the revolution of 1905-1907. The accusations unmasking the “errors” in thinking and writing about the revolution formulated by the journalist take into consideration particularly the recipient’s perspective. These accusations are becoming part of the journal’s strategy to inform about conflicts, current in the context of growing antagonisms in Europe.
