    FIXED POINT RESULTS IN COMPLEX VALUED METRIC SPACES WITH AN APPLICATION

    In this paper, we introduce fixed point theorem for a general contractive condition in complex valued metric spaces. Also, some important corollaries under this contractive condition areobtained. As an application, we find a unique solution for Urysohn integral equations and some illustrative examples are given to support our obtaining results. Our results extend and generalize the results of Azam et al. [2] and some other known results in the literature

    Dimensions of trust in different forms of science communication: the role of information sources and channels used to acquire science knowledge

    This paper investigates the dimensions of trust and the role of information sources and channels in developing differentiated forms of science communication. The discussions from two public consultations carried out in Italy and Slovakia about controversial science-related topics were quali-quantitatively content analysed. The results show that scientific knowledge pervades diverse communication spheres, producing differentiated paths of trust in science. Each path is determined by topics (environment or health-related), information sources and channels preferred, and specific features of the multifaceted notion of trust. The contribution discusses cross-national commonalities and specificities and proposes implications for science communication

    We prove that if an ultrafilter L is not coherent to a Q-point, then each analytic non-sigma-bounded topological group G admits an increasing chain <G_a : a of its proper subgroups such that: (i) U_{a in b(L)} G_a=G; and (ii)(ii) For every sigma-bounded subgroup H of G there exists a such that H is a subset of G_a.     Neanderthal extinction has been a matter of debate for many years. New discoveries, better chronologies and genomic evidence have done much to clarify some of the issues. This evidence suggests that Neanderthals became extinct around 40,000-37,000 years before present (BP), after a period of coexistence with Homo sapiens of several millennia, involving biological and cultural interactions between the two groups. However, the bulk of this evidence relates to Western Eurasia, and recent work in Central Asia and Siberia has shown that there is considerable local variation. Southwestern Asia, despite having a number of significant Neanderthal remains, has not played a major part in the debate over extinction. Here we report a Neanderthal deciduous canine from the site of Bawa Yawan in the West-Central Zagros Mountains of Iran. The tooth is associated with Zagros Mousterian lithics, and its context is preliminary dated to between ~43,600 and ~41,500 years ago

    Birth weight in different etiologies of disorders of sex development

    Context: It is well established that boys are heavier than girls at birth. Although the cause of birth weight (BW) difference is unknown, it has been proposed that it could be generated from prenatal androgen action. Objective: The aim of the current study was to determine the BW of children with disorders of sex development (DSD) of different etiologies and to evaluate the effects of androgen action on BW. Methods: Data regarding diagnosis, BW, gestational age, karyotype, and concomitant conditions were collected from the InternationalDisorders of SexDevelopment (I-DSD) Registry (www.i-dsd).BWstandard deviation score was calculated according to gestational age. Cases were evaluated according to disorder classification in I-DSD (i.e., disorders of gonadal development, androgen excess, androgen synthesis, androgen action, nonspecific disorder of undermasculinization groups, and Leydig cell defect). Results: A total of 533 cases were available; 400 (75%) cases were 46,XY, and 133 (25%) cases were 46,XX. Eighty cases (15%) were born small for gestational age (SGA). Frequency of SGA was higher in the 46,XY group (17.8%) than in the 46,XX (6.7%) group (P = 0.001). Mean BW standard deviation scores of cases with androgen excess and androgen deficiency [in disorders of gonadal development, androgen synthesis, and Leydig cell defect groups and androgen receptor gene (AR)mutation-positive cases in disorders of androgen action groups]were similar to normal childrenwith the same karyotype. SGA birth frequency was higher in the AR mutation-negative cases in disorders of androgen action group and in the nonspecific disorders of the undermasculinization group. Conclusions: BWdimorphism is unlikely to be explained by fetal androgen action per se. 46,XY DSDs due to nonspecific disorders of undermasculinizationare more frequently associatedwithfetal growth restriction, SGA, and concomitant conditions

    Controlled growth of the self-modulation of a relativistic proton bunch in plasma

    A long, narrow, relativistic charged particle bunch propagating in plasma is subject to the self-modulation (SM) instability. We show that SM of a proton bunch can be seeded by the wakefields driven by a preceding electron bunch. SM timing reproducibility and control are at the level of a small fraction of the modulation period. With this seeding method, we independently control the amplitude of the seed wakefields with the charge of the electron bunch and the growth rate of SM with the charge of the proton bunch.
