Band-dependent quasiparticle dynamics in the hole-doped Ba-122 iron pnictides
We report on band-dependent quasiparticle dynamics in the hole-doped Ba-122 pnictides measured by ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy. In the superconducting state of the optimal and over hole-doped samples, we observe two distinct relaxation processes: a fast component whose decay rate increases linearly with excitation density and a slow component whose relaxation is independent of excitation strength. We argue that these two components reflect the recombination of quasiparticles in the two hole bands through intraband and interband processes. We also find that the thermal recombination rate of quasiparticles increases quadratically with temperature in all samples. The temperature and excitation density dependence of the decays indicates fully gapped hole bands and nodal or very anisotropic electron bands.United States. A Lanczos algorithm for linear response
An iterative algorithm is presented for solving the RPA equations of linear
response. The method optimally computes the energy-weighted moments of the
strength function, allowing one to match the computational effort to the
intrinsic accuracy of the basic mean-field approximation, avoiding the problem
of solving very large matrices. For local interactions, the computational
effort for the method scales with the number of particles N_p as O(N_p^3).Comment: 12 pages including 3 figures; Late
Nanocrystal and surface alloy properties of bimetallic Gold-Platinum nanoparticles
We report on the correlation between the nanocrystal and surface alloy properties with the bimetallic composition of gold-platinum(AuPt) nanoparticles. The fundamental understanding of whether the AuPt nanocrystal core is alloyed or phase-segregated and how the surface binding properties are correlated with the nanoscale bimetallic properties is important not only for the exploitation of catalytic activity of the nanoscale bimetallic catalysts, but also to the general exploration of the surface or interfacial reactivities of bimetallic or multimetallic nanoparticles. The AuPt nanoparticles are shown to exhibit not only single-phase alloy character in the nanocrystal, but also bimetallic alloy property on the surface. The nanocrystal and surface alloy properties are directly correlated with the bimetallic composition. The FTIR probing of CO adsorption on the bimetallic nanoparticles supported on silica reveals that the surface binding sites are dependent on the bimetallic composition. The analysis of this dependence further led to the conclusion that the relative Au-atop and Pt-atop sites for the linear CO adsorption on the nanoparticle surface are not only correlated with the bimetallic composition, but also with the electronic effect as a result of the d-band shift of Pt in the bimetallic nanocrystals, which is the first demonstration of the nanoscale core-surface property correlation for the bimetallic nanoparticles over a wide range of bimetallic composition
Iron pnictides: Single crystal growth and effect of doping on structural, transport and magnetic properties
We demonstrate the preparation of large, free standing iron pnictide single
crystals with a size up to 20 x 10 x 1 mm3 using solvents in zirconia crucibles
under argon atmosphere. Transport and magnetic properties are investigated to
study the effect of potassium doping on the structural and superconducting
property of the compounds. The spin density wave (SDW) anomaly at Ts ~138 K in
BaFe2As2 single crystals from self-flux shifts to Ts ~85 K due to Sn solvent
growth. We show direct evidence for an incorporation of Sn on the Fe site. The
electrical resistivity data show a sharp superconducting transition temperature
Tc~38.5 K for the single crystal of Ba0.68K0.32Fe2As2. A nearly 100% shielding
fraction and bulk nature of the superconductivity for the single crystal were
confirmed by magnetic susceptibility data. A sharp transition Tc~25 K occurred
for the single crystal of Sr0.85K0.15Fe2As2. There is direct evidence for a
coexistence of the SDW and superconductivity in the low doping regime of
Sr1-xKxFe2As2 single crystals. Structural implications of the doping effects as
well as the coexistence of the two order parameters are discussed.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figure
-symmetric Gauge Mediation With Fayet-Iliopoulos Term
We have studied -symmetrc gauge mediation models with Fayet-Iliopoulos
terms. We give a concrete example of hidden sector with an gauge
theory and a Fayet-Iliopoulos term, which can induce distinctive soft terms in
the visible sector, and help solving fine tuning problems in models of
-symmetric gauge mediation.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur
Mobilization of heavy metals from contaminated paddy soil by EDDS, EDTA, and elemental sulfur
For enhanced phytoextraction, mobilization of heavy metals (HMs) from the soil solid phase to soil pore water is an important process. A pot incubation experiment mimicking field conditions was conducted to investigate the performance of three soil additives in mobilizing HMs from contaminated paddy soil (Gleyi-Stagnic Anthrosol): the [S, S]-isomer of ethylenediamine disuccinate (EDDS) with application rates of 2.3, 4.3, and 11.8 mmol kg¿1 of soil, ethylenediamine tetraacetate (EDTA; 1.4, 3.8, and 7.5 mmol kg¿1), and elemental sulfur (100, 200, and 400 mmol kg¿1). Temporal changes in soil pore water HM and dissolved organic carbon concentrations and pH were monitored for a period of 119 days. EDDS was the most effective additive in mobilizing soil Cu. However, EDDS was only effective during the first 24 to 52 days, and was readily biodegraded with a half-life of 4.1 to 8.7 days. The effectiveness of EDDS decreased at the highest application rate, most probably as a result of depletion of the readily desorbable Cu pool in soil. EDTA increased the concentrations of Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd in the soil pore water, and remained effective during the whole incubation period due to its persistence. The highest rate of sulfur application led to a decrease in pH to around 4. This increased the pore water HM concentrations, especially those of Zn and Cd. Concentrations of HMs in the soil pore water can be regulated to a large extent by choosing the proper application rate of EDDS, EDTA, or sulfur. Hence, a preliminary work such as our pot experiment in combination with further plant experiments (not included in this study) will provide a good tool to evaluate the applicability of different soil additives for enhanced phytoextraction of a specific soil
Electronic Structure of the BaFeAs Family of Iron Pnictides
We use high resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to study the
band structure and Fermi surface topology of the BaFeAs iron pnictides.
We observe two electron bands and two hole bands near the X-point,
of the Brillouin zone, in the paramagnetic state for different doping levels,
including electron-doped Ba(CoFe)As, undoped
BaFeAs, and hole-doped BaKFeAs. Among these
four bands, only the electron bands cross the Fermi level, forming two electron
pockets around X, while the hole bands approach but never reach the Fermi
level. We show that the band structure of the BaFeAs family matches
reasonably well with the prediction of LDA calculations after a
momentum-dependent shift and renormalization. Our finding resolves a number of
inconsistencies regarding the electronic structure of pnictides.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Study of the nucleon-induced preequilibrium reactions in terms of the Quantum Molecular Dynamics
The preequilibrium (nucleon-in, nucleon-out) angular distributions of
Al, Ni and Zr have been analyzed in the energy region from
90 to 200 MeV in terms of the Quantum Moleculear Dynamics (QMD) theory. First,
we show that the present approach can reproduce the measured (p,xp') and (p,xn)
angular distributions leading to continuous final states without adjusing any
parameters. Second, we show the results of the detailed study of the
preequilibrium reaction processes; the step-wise contribution to the angular
distribution, comparison with the quantum-mechanical Feshbach-Kerman-Koonin
theory, the effects of momentum distribution and surface refraction/reflection
to the quasifree scattering. Finally, the present method was used to assess the
importance of multiple preequilibrium particle emission as a function of
projectile energy up to 1 GeV.Comment: 22pages, Revex is used, 10 Postscript figures are available by
