A reconfigurable beam-scanning partially reflective surface (PRS) antenna
© 2015 EurAAP. A novel reconfigurable partially reflective surface (PRS) antenna is presented in this paper. The beam scanning ability is realized by employing a reconfigurable PRS structure and a phased array as the source. The design achieves a beam switching between -15°, 0°, to 15° with respect to the broadside direction from 5.5 GHz to 5.7 GHz with the realized gains over 12 dBi. Good agreement between the simulated and measured results is achieved
A wideband polarization reconfigurable antenna for WLAN applications
© 2016 European Association of Antennas and Propagation. This paper proposes a wideband polarization reconfigurable antenna design for WLAN applications. It consists of a shorted annular patch (SAP) antenna as the source, a partially reflective surface (PRS) structure to enhance the gain, and a reconfigurable Wilkinson power divider as the feed network. The antenna can electronically alter its polarization between linear polarization (LP), left-hand circular polarization (LHCP), and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP),achieving an overlapped 10dB impedance bandwidth and 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 4.68-5.33 GHz (13%), thus outperforming most of the reported polarization reconfigurable antennas in terms of the frequency bandwidth
Transverse momentum dependence in the perturbative calculation of pion form factor
By reanalysing transverse momentum dependence in the perturbative calculation
of pion form factor an improved expression of pion form factor which takes into
account the transverse momentum dependenc in hard scattering amplitude and
intrinsic transverse momentum dependence associated with pion wave functions is
given to leading order, which is available for momentum transfers of the order
of a few GeV as well as for . Our scheme can be extended to
evaluate the contributions to the pion form factor beyond leading order.Comment: 13 pages in LaTeX, plus 3 Postscript figure
MicroRNA-1 acts as a tumor suppressor microRNA by inhibiting angiogenesis-related growth factors in human gastric cancer
Background
We recently reported that miR-1 was one of the most significantly downregulated microRNAs in gastric cancer (GC) patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas microRNA sequencing data. Here we aim to elucidate the role of miR-1 in gastric carcinogenesis.
Methods
We measured miR-1 expression in human GC cell lines and 90 paired primary GC samples, and analyzed the association of its status with clinicopathological features. The effect of miR-1 on GC cells was evaluated by proliferation and migration assay. To identify the target genes of miR-1, bioinformatic analysis and protein array analysis were performed. Moreover, the regulation mechanism of miR-1 with regard to these predicted targets was investigated by quantitative PCR (qPCR), Western blot, ELISA, and endothelial cell tube formation. The putative binding site of miR-1 on target genes was assessed by a reporter assay.
Results
Expression of miR-1 was obviously decreased in GC cell lines and primary tissues. Patients with low miR-1 expression had significantly shorter overall survival compared with those with high miR-1 expression (P = 0.0027). Overexpression of miR-1 in GC cells inhibited proliferation, migration, and tube formation of endothelial cells by suppressing expression of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and endothelin 1 (EDN1). Conversely, inhibition of miR-1 with use of antago-miR-1 caused an increase in expression of VEGF-A and EDN1 in nonmalignant GC cells or low-malignancy GC cells.
Conclusions
MiR-1 acts as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting angiogenesis-related growth factors in human gastric cancer. Downregulated miR-1 not only promotes cellular proliferation and migration of GC cells, but may activates proangiogenesis signaling and stimulates the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells, indicating the possibility of new strategies for GC therapy
Re-examination of the Perturbative Pion Form Factor with Sudakov Suppression
The perturbative pion form factor with Sudakov suppression is re-examined.
Taking into account the multi-gluon exchange in the law regions, we
suggest that the running coupling constant should be frozen at
and is the
average transverse momentum which can be determined by the pionic wave
function. In addition, we correct the previous calculations about the Sudakov
suppression factor which plays an important role in the perturbative
predictions for the pion form factor.Comment: 11 pages, LaTex file, 2 figures as uu-encoded postscript file
Bmi1 Is a Key Epigenetic Barrier to Direct Cardiac Reprogramming
Direct reprogramming of induced cardiomyocytes (iCMs) suffers from low efficiency and requires extensive epigenetic repatterning, although the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. To address these issues, we screened for epigenetic regulators of iCM reprogramming and found that reducing levels of the polycomb complex gene Bmi1 significantly enhanced induction of beating iCMs from neonatal and adult mouse fibroblasts. The inhibitory role of Bmi1 in iCM reprogramming is mediated through direct interactions with regulatory regions of cardiogenic genes, rather than regulation of cell proliferation. Reduced Bmi1 expression corresponded with increased levels of the active histone mark H3K4me3 and reduced levels of repressive H2AK119ub at cardiogenic loci, and de-repression of cardiogenic gene expression during iCM conversion. Furthermore, Bmi1 deletion could substitute for Gata4 during iCM reprogramming. Thus, Bmi1 acts as a critical epigenetic barrier to iCM production. Bypassing this barrier simplifies iCM generation and increases yield, potentially streamlining iCM production for therapeutic purposes
The momentum analyticity of two-point correlators from perturbation theory and AdS/CFT
The momentum plane analyticity of two point function of a relativistic
thermal field theory at zero chemical potential is explored. A general
principle regarding the location of the singularities is extracted. In the case
of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at large , a qualitative
change in the nature of the singularity (branch points versus simple poles)
from the weak coupling regime to the strong coupling regime is observed with
the aid of the AdS/CFT correspondence.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, typos fixed, 1 figure update
Large corrections to asymptotic and in the light-cone perturbative QCD
The large- behavior of - and -
transition form factors, and
are analyzed in the framework of light-cone perturbative QCD with the heavy
quark ( and ) mass effect, the parton's transverse momentum dependence
and the higher helicity components in the light-cone wave function are
respected. It is pointed out that the quark mass effect brings significant
modifications to the asymptotic predictions of the transition form factors in a
rather broad energy region, and this modification is much severer for
than that for due to the
-quark being heavier than the -quark. The parton's transverse momentum
and the higher helicity components are another two factors which decrease the
perturbative predictions. For the transition form factor
, they bring sizable corrections in the present
experimentally accessible energy region (). For the
transition form factor , the corrections coming from
these two factors are negligible since the -quark mass is much larger than
the parton's average transverse momentum. The coming collider (LEP2)
will provide the opportunity to examine these theoretical predictions.Comment: 8 pages, RevTex, 5 PostScript figure
Measurement of the Branching Fraction of J/psi --> pi+ pi- pi0
Using 58 million J/psi and 14 million psi' decays obtained by the BESII
experiment, the branching fraction of J/psi --> pi+ pi- pi0 is determined. The
result is (2.10+/-0.12)X10^{-2}, which is significantly higher than previous
measurements.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, RevTex
First observation of psi(2S)-->K_S K_L
The decay psi(2S)-->K_S K_L is observed for the first time using psi(2S) data
collected with the Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron
Positron Collider (BEPC); the branching ratio is determined to be
B(psi(2S)-->K_S K_L) = (5.24\pm 0.47 \pm 0.48)\times 10^{-5}. Compared with
J/psi-->K_S K_L, the psi(2S) branching ratio is enhanced relative to the
prediction of the perturbative QCD ``12%'' rule. The result, together with the
branching ratios of psi(2S) decays to other pseudoscalar meson pairs
(\pi^+\pi^- and K^+K^-), is used to investigate the relative phase between the
three-gluon and the one-photon annihilation amplitudes of psi(2S) decays.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
