Cooperative Cognitive Automobiles
Safety requirements are among the most ambitious challenges for autonomous guidance and control of automobiles. A human-like understanding of the surrounding traffic scene is a key element to fulfill these requirements, but is a still missing capability of today's intelligent vehicles. Few recent proposals for driver assistance systems approach this issue with methods from the AI research to allow for a reasonable situation evaluation and behavior generation. While the methods proposed in this contribution are lend from cognition in order to mimic human capabilities, we argue that in the long term automated cooperation among traffic participants bears the potential to improve traffic efficiency and safety beyond the level attainable by human drivers. Both issues are major objectives of the Transregional Collaborative Research Centre 28 'cognitive automobiles,' TCRC28 that is outlined in the paper. Within this project the partners focus on systematic and interdisciplinary research on machine cognition of mobile systems as the basis for a scientific theory of automated machine behavior
Gender specific expression of tumor suppressor PKCd versus oncogenic PKCn in renal cell carcinoma
Tumor incidence for renal cell carcinoma is two-fold higher in males than in females. Members of the protein kinase C (PKC) gene family have been shown to be relevant for carcinogenesis. However, little is known about a possible gender specific role of PKC in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In this study, we quantified expression of eleven PKC-isoforms in clear cell RCCs (ccRCC) and in the corresponding normal renal tissue. A possible association of PKC-isoforms with gender of the patients was examined. Tissue specimens of 27 patients, 14 males and 13 females, with ccRCC and of the corresponding normal renal tissue were examined. Expression of PKC-isoforms were detected by Western blot analysis and quantified by computer-aided integration. In ccRCCs, as well as in the corresponding normal renal tissue, all PKC-isoforms except PKCy and 0 were detectable. Clear associations with gender of the patients were observed: (i) PKCd was reduced in tumor tissue of female patients (p = 0.023), but not of male patients (p = 0.198). (ii) A 3.6-fold enhanced expression of the oncogene PKC? was found in tumor tissue of female compared to male patients (p = 0.049). Gender specific differences in PKCd as well as PKCn expression suggest that different molecular mechanisms are relevant for carcinogenesis of ccRCC in male and female patients. This may become important for classification and treatment of ccRCC
Incidence of calcaneal apophysitis (Sever’s disease) and return-to-play in adolescent athletes of a German youth soccer academy : a retrospective study of 10 years
Background
Calcaneal apophysitis, or Sever's disease, is the most common cause of heel pain in childhood and adolescence. It is regarded as an overuse syndrome. Studies on the incidence of calcaneal apophysitis in young athletes and their associated return-to-play time are lacking in the current literature. The aim of our current study was to identify the incidence of calcaneal apophysitis in professional youth soccer, the associated time to return-to-play, predisposing factors and their impact on time to return-to-play.
Methods
Retrospective evaluation of injury data gathered from a German youth soccer academy in the years 2009–2018. In total, 4326 injury cases in 612 players were included in the study. The diagnosis and the follow-up visits were carried out in a weekly consultation hour at the youth academy.
Results
During the observation period of 10 years, 22 cases of calcaneal apophysitis were detected. The incidence of calcaneal apophysitis per 100 athletes per year was found to be 0.36. The mean age of the affected athletes at the time of diagnosis was 11.8 ± 2.1 years (MW ± SD). The complaints were unilateral in 20 and bilateral in two cases. Three of the 22 detected cases of calcaneal apophysitis (13.6%) were recurrent injuries. The mean time to return-to-play of the affected athletes was 60.7 ± 64.9 days (MW ± SD). Athletes with recurrent complaints showed longer recovery time and time to return-to-play when compared to players with primary diagnosed disease. Our results could show that neither age nor body mass index at the time of diagnosis had an impact on time to return-to-play.
Conclusions
This is the first study investigating the incidence of calcaneal apophysitis and the associated time to return-to-play in youth elite soccer. Calcaneal apophysitis results in substantial time loss for the athletes. Further prospective clinical studies are required to fully understand the etiology and risk factors for calcaneal apophysitis and therefore develop preventive strategies
Optimized method for black carbon analysis in ice and snow using the Single Particle Soot Photometer
In this study we attempt to optimize the method for measuring black carbon (BC) in snow and ice using a Single Particle Soot Photometer (SP2). Beside the previously applied ultrasonic (CETAC) and Collison-type nebulizers we introduce a jet (Apex Q) nebulizer to aerosolize the aqueous sample for SP2 analysis. Both CETAC and Apex Q require small sample volumes (a few milliliters) which makes them suitable for ice core analysis. The Apex Q shows the least size-dependent nebulizing efficiency in the BC particle diameter range of 100–1000 nm. The CETAC has the advantage that air and liquid flows can be monitored continuously. All nebulizer-types require a calibration with BC standards for the determination of the BC mass concentration in unknown aqueous samples. We found Aquadag to be a suitable material for preparing calibration standards. Further, we studied the influence of different treatments for fresh discrete snow and ice samples as well as the effect of storage. The results show that samples are best kept frozen until analysis. Once melted, they should be sonicated for 25 min, immediately analyzed while being stirred and not be refrozen
Intramuscular injection of combined calf blood compound (CFC) and homeopathic drug Tr14 accelerates muscle regeneration in vivo
Skeletal muscle injuries in competitive sports cause lengthy absences of athletes from tournaments. This is of tremendous competitive and economic relevance for both the athletes and their respective clubs. Therapy for structural muscle lesions aims to promote regeneration and fast-track return-to-play. A common clinical treatment strategy for muscle injuries is the intramuscular injection of calf blood compound and the homeopathic drug, Tr14. Although the combination of these two agents was reported to reduce recovery time, the regulatory mechanism whereby this occurs remains unknown. In this in vivo study, we selected a rat model of mechanical muscle injury to investigate the effect of this combination therapy on muscle regeneration. Gene expression analysis and histological images revealed that this combined intramuscular injection for muscle lesions can enhance the expression of pro-myogenic genes and proteins and accelerate muscle regeneration. These findings are novel and depict the positive effects of calf blood compound and the homeopathic drug, Tr14, which are utilized in the field of Sports medicine.

The OpenCitations Data Model
A variety of schemas and ontologies are currently used for the
machine-readable description of bibliographic entities and citations. This
diversity, and the reuse of the same ontology terms with different nuances,
generates inconsistencies in data. Adoption of a single data model would
facilitate data integration tasks regardless of the data supplier or context
application. In this paper we present the OpenCitations Data Model (OCDM), a
generic data model for describing bibliographic entities and citations,
developed using Semantic Web technologies. We also evaluate the effective
reusability of OCDM according to ontology evaluation practices, mention
existing users of OCDM, and discuss the use and impact of OCDM in the wider

Improved performance of the LHCb Outer Tracker in LHC Run 2
The LHCb Outer Tracker is a gaseous detector covering an area of with 12 double layers of straw tubes. The performance of the detector is
presented based on data of the LHC Run 2 running period from 2015 and 2016.
Occupancies and operational experience for data collected in , pPb and
PbPb collisions are described. An updated study of the ageing effects is
presented showing no signs of gain deterioration or other radiation damage
effects. In addition several improvements with respect to LHC Run 1 data taking
are introduced. A novel real-time calibration of the time-alignment of the
detector and the alignment of the single monolayers composing detector modules
are presented, improving the drift-time and position resolution of the detector
by 20\%. Finally, a potential use of the improved resolution for the timing of
charged tracks is described, showing the possibility to identify low-momentum

Search for CP violation in decays
A model-independent search for direct CP violation in the Cabibbo suppressed
decay in a sample of approximately 370,000 decays is
carried out. The data were collected by the LHCb experiment in 2010 and
correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb. The normalized Dalitz
plot distributions for and are compared using four different
binning schemes that are sensitive to different manifestations of CP violation.
No evidence for CP asymmetry is found.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Differential branching fraction and angular analysis of the decay B0→K∗0μ+μ−
The angular distribution and differential branching fraction of the decay B 0→ K ∗0 μ + μ − are studied using a data sample, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1. Several angular observables are measured in bins of the dimuon invariant mass squared, q 2. A first measurement of the zero-crossing point of the forward-backward asymmetry of the dimuon system is also presented. The zero-crossing point is measured to be q20=4.9±0.9GeV2/c4 , where the uncertainty is the sum of statistical and systematic uncertainties. The results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions
Search for CP violation in D+→ϕπ+ and D+s→K0Sπ+ decays
A search for CP violation in D + → ϕπ + decays is performed using data collected in 2011 by the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 at a centre of mass energy of 7 TeV. The CP -violating asymmetry is measured to be (−0.04 ± 0.14 ± 0.14)% for candidates with K − K + mass within 20 MeV/c 2 of the ϕ meson mass. A search for a CP -violating asymmetry that varies across the ϕ mass region of the D + → K − K + π + Dalitz plot is also performed, and no evidence for CP violation is found. In addition, the CP asymmetry in the D+s→K0Sπ+ decay is measured to be (0.61 ± 0.83 ± 0.14)%
