    Langevin dynamics in crossed magnetic and electric fields: Hall and diamagnetic fluctuations

    Based on the classical Langevin equation, we have re-visited the problem of orbital motion of a charged particle in two dimensions for a normal magnetic field crossed with or without an in-plane electric bias. We are led to two interesting fluctuation effects: First, we obtain not only a longitudinal "work-fluctuation" relation as expected for a barotropic type system, but also a transverse work-fluctuation relation perpendicular to the electric bias. This "Hall fluctuation" involves the product of the electric and the magnetic fields. And second, for the case of harmonic confinement without bias, the calculated probability density for the orbital magnetic moment gives non-zero even moments, not derivable as field derivatives of the classical free energy.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, revised versio

    Real-Space Imaging of Alternate Localization and Extension of Quasi Two-Dimensional Electronic States at Graphite Surfaces in Magnetic Fields

    We measured the local density of states (LDOS) of a quasi two-dimensional (2D) electron system near point defects on a surface of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) with scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Differential tunnel conductance images taken at very low temperatures and in high magnetic fields show a clear contrast between localized and extended spatial distributions of the LDOS at the valley and peak energies of the Landau level spectrum, respectively. The localized electronic state has a single circular distribution around the defects with a radius comparable to the magnetic length. The localized LDOS is in good agreement with a spatial distribution of a calculated wave function for a single electron in 2D in a Coulomb potential in magnetic fields.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Shifting RbR_b with AFBbA^b_{FB}

    Precision measurements at the ZZ resonance agree well with the standard model. However, there is still a hint of a discrepancy, not so much in RbR_b by itself (which has received a great deal of attention in the past several years) but in the forward-backward asymmetry AFBbA^b_{FB} together with RbR_b.     Fitting Precision Electroweak Data with Exotic Heavy Quarks

    The 1999 precision electroweak data from LEP and SLC persist in showing some slight discrepancies from the assumed standard model, mostly regarding bb and cc quarks.     We investigate the fluctuations of the condensate in the ideal and weakly interacting Bose gases confined in a box of volume V within canonical ensemble. Canonical ensemble is developed to describe the behavior of the fluctuations when different methods of approximation to the weakly interacting Bose gases are used.     Everything to do with tattoos, must relate to the criminal offense has been stuck in our minds. Bad image to those who have a tattoo on the body has confined the creativity of some people. The reason is, there is a presumption that all criminals caught certainly had marks on his body called tattoo. Tattoos have long known to humanity. That said, one of the expressions of tattoos as works of art has existed since several centuries BC in some tribes. Tattooing or body painting or tattoo is an image or symbol that is engraved on the skin using a needle similar tools. Usually, images and symbols that are decorated with colorful pigments. In the old days, people are still using manual techniques and traditional materials to tattoo someone. Now, people have been using the needle of iron, which is sometimes driven by the engine to "carve out" a tattoo. Based on the bad image of the tattoo community, the researchers tried to bridge to make the book as an effort to improve the image of the tattoo. Advantage of using the media guide in this research is to arouse the reader's emotions to be able to hold it directly, feel, and see the details of how the contents contained in the book. The function of the book itself is to convey information in the form of stories, knowledge, reports, and others. The book can hold a lot of information depends on the number of pages it has

    Classical and quantum scattering by a Coulomb potential

    For relativistic energies the small angle classical cross section for scattering on a Coulomb potential agrees with the first Born approximation for quantum cross section for scalar particle only in the leading term. The disagreement in other terms can be avoided if the sum of all corrections to the first Born approximation for large enough Coulomb charge contain the classical terms which are independent of that charge. A small part of the difference in classical and quantum cross sections may be attributed to the fact that the relativistic quantum particle can rush through the field without interaction. We expect that smaller impact parameters and spin facilitate this affect.Comment: 5pages, no figure

    Negative differential conductance in quantum dots in theory and experiment

    Experimental results for sequential transport through a lateral quantum dot in the regime of spin blockade induced by spin dependent tunneling are compared with theoretical results obtained by solving a master equation for independent electrons. Orbital and spin effects in electron tunneling in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field are identified and discussed in terms of the Fock-Darwin spectrum with spin. In the nonlinear regime, a regular pattern of negative differential conductances is observed. Electrical asymmetries in tunnel rates and capacitances must be introduced in order to account for the experimental findings. Fast relaxation of the excited states in the quantum dot have to be assumed, in order to explain the absence of certain structures in the transport spectra.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    Two electrons in a strongly coupled double quantum dot: from an artificial helium atom to a hydrogen molecule

    We study the formation of molecular states in a two-electron quantum dot as a function of the barrier potential dividing the dot. The increasing barrier potential drives the two electron system from an artificial helium atom to an artificial hydrogen molecule. To study this strongly coupled regime, we introduce variational wavefunctions which describe accurately two electrons in a single dot, and then study their mixing induced by the barrier.
