    An extensive calcified left ventricular aneurysm: Case report

    A calcified left ventricular aneurysm (CLVA) is a rare, serious complication of acute myocardial infarction. It can lead to angina pectoris, thromboembolism of ventricular origin, ventricular arrhythmia, ventricular pseudoaneurysm or rupture, progressively enlarging aneurysms, congestive heart failure, and death. Treatment is surgical for symptomatic or asymptomatic LVAs larger than 5 cm, particularly when there is comorbid coronay artery disease. Its standard treatment is a ventriculoplasty and aneurysmectomy using the Dor technique. The aim of surgical treatment of an LVA is to reduce oxygen consumption in the LV by reducing end-diastolic volume (EDV), creating the ideal ventricle geometry, and preventing thrombus formation. The surgical results are often good. This article presents a patient with CLVA in whom we performed surgery. Copyright © 2016 by Türkiye Klinikleri

    A study on rooting in the different methods of obtained shoots with shoot multiplication in vitro of kiwi (actinidia chinensis planch.)

    Bu çalışmada in vitro’da elde edilen Hayward kültüvarına kivi sürgünlerinin tekrar çoğaltılması ve in vitro ve in vivo’da köklendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bunun için; sürgün elde etmek üzere başlangıç kültürlerinde Kivi’nin nodal parçaları kullanılmıştır. Daha sonra bu sürgünler, tekrar nodal parçalara bölünerek yeni sürgünler elde edilmiştir. Bu parçalar MS ve WPM adlı iki temel besin ortamına 1.0 mg/l BAP eklenerek kültüre alınmışlardır. Yapılan ölçümler; sürgün oluşumu ve çoğalması bakımından MS ortamının daha etkili olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Yeniden çoğaltma yoluyla elde edilen çok sayıda sürgün köklendirme denemelerinde kullanılmıştır. In vitro’da köklendirme için IBA’nın dört farklı dozu (0.5, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0mg/l) 1/2 MS ortamına eklenmiştir. En iyi köklenme 5.0 mg/l IBA dozunda olmuştur. İn vivo’da köklendirme için iki farklı toprak karışımı test edilmiştir. Her iki karışımda da %90’ın üzerinde köklenme ve yaşama başarısına ulaşılmıştır. Böylece in vivo’da köklendirmenin in vitro’da köklendirmeye göre daha başarılı olduğu ortaya konmuştur.In this study, ıt was aimed rooting Kiwifruit cv. Hayward obtained shoots in vitro in vivo and again in vitro. Therefore, nodal explants have been used to obtain the shoots at the begining of culture. After that, these shoots were used again as explant recourses for obtaining new shoots. These nodal explants were cultured into two media known as MS and WPM supplemented 1.0 mg/l BAP. It was concluded that MS medium had been more effective for shoot formation and shoot multiplication. A great number of shoots, which were obtained with remultiplication, were used for rooting trials. It was supplemented four different concentrations of IBA (0.5, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0mg/l) for rooting in vitro in 1/2 MS medium. The best rooting occured with 5.0 mg/l IBA concentration. Two different soil mixtures were tested for rooting in vivo. Two of them were also obtained rooting and survival success more than nineth percent. Finally, the rooting in vivo was found to be more successful than in vitro

    Identification of extracellular enzyme producing alkalophilic bacilli from Izmir province by 16S-ITS rDNA RFLP

    Aims: To screen industrially important extracellular enzymes from the newly isolated alkalophilic bacilli and to characterize them by phenotypic and 16S-internal transcribed spacer (ITS) rDNA restriction pattern analysis. Methods and Results: Three different environmental samples, soil, leather and horse faeces, were collected within the province of Izmir. Isolates grown on Horikoshi-I medium for 24 h at 37°C were screened for extracellular enzyme activity by using eight different substrates: birchwood xylan, carboxymethylcellulose, casein, citrus pectin, polygalacturonic acid, soluble starch, and Tween 20 and 80. In total, 115 extracellular enzyme-producing bacilli were obtained. Casein was hydrolysed by 78%, soluble starch by 67%, citrus pectin by 63%, polygalacturonic acid by 62%, Tween 20 by 34%, birchwood xylan by 16%, Tween 80 by 12%, and carboxymethylcellulose by 3% of the isolates. The isolates were differentiated into 19 distinct homology groups by the 16S-ITS rDNA restriction pattern analysis. Conclusions: Eight different extracellular enzyme activities were determined in 115 endospore forming bacilli. The largest 16S-ITS rDNA homology group (HT1) included 36% of the isolates, 98% of which degraded casein, polygalacturonic acid, pectin and starch. Significance and Impact of the Study: This study is the first report on the characterization of the industrial enzyme-producing alkalophilic bacilli by 16S-ITS rDNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP).     Efficacy of filgrastim in canine parvoviral enteritis accompanied by severe leukopenia

    Canine parvoviral enteritis (CPE) is a common, highly contagious viral disease characterized by severe hemorrhagic gastroenteritis in dogs. Leukopenia and neutropenia in dogs with parvoviral enteritis are considered negative prognostic indicators. This study aimed to investigate the effect of filgrastim [recombinant methionyl human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (r-metHuG-CSF)] on leukocyte counts in dogs with parvoviral enteritis. The animal material consisted of thirty-seven owned dogs with parvoviral enteritis from various breeds, which were brought to the Small Animal Clinic of the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Erciyes University. The dogs included in the study were divided into two groups. The first group received standard treatment (ST=18) and the second group received Filgrastim (ST+Filg=19) in addition to the standard treatment. For the assessment of leukocyte counts, blood samples were taken on day 0 (before starting treatment), day 3, and day 5 after treatment. It was observed that 16 out of the nineteen dogs treated with Filgrastim in addition to standard treatment (84.21%) showed improvement. In the ST+Filg group, the median WBC and neutrophil values on the 5th day after treatment were significantly higher than on the 0th day (P=0.001, P=0.006, respectively). In addition, the median WBC, lymphocyte and neutrophil values of the dogs in the ST+Filg group on the 3rd and 5th days after treatment were found to be significantly higher than the same day measurements of the ST group (P<0.001). As a result, this study determined that filgrastim (r-metHuG-CSF) contributed positively to the improvement of leukopenia in dogs with CPE, in conjunction with clinical recovery. It was concluded that filgrastim (r-metHuG-CSF) may be included in treatment protocols as one of the immunostimulant drugs to increase leukocyte counts in the treatment of dogs with parvoviral enteritis

Konferans konusu olarak, “Atatürk ve Demokrasi” konusunu seçtim. Niçin böyle bir konu seçtim diye düşünebilirsiniz. Atatürk’ün kurduğu tam bağımsız, demokratik, lâik ve çağdaş devlet ve toplum düzenine karşı, zaman zaman açıktan açığa; zaman zaman da örtülü bir şekilde büyük bir saldırının varlığı dikkatimizi çekmektedir. Bu saldırının ivmesi, dünya ve Türkiye konjonktürüne göre sürekli olarak değişmektedir. Günümüzde, teokratik faşizm olarak adlandırabileceğimiz dine dayalı devlet kurarak Türkiye’yi aydınlık yolundan karanlığa saptırmak isteyenler; egemen olduğu toplumlar üzerindeki halklara fakirlikten, yoksulluktan ve ızdıraptan başka bir şey bırakmamış sınıf diktatörlüğü yanlıları; devletin tekliğini, ulusun birliğini ve milletin bütünlüğünü parçalamaya yönelik düşünce taraftarları; kendi ütopyalarını Türkiye’ye uygulamak isteyenler el ele kol kola girerek, bir avuç Türk’ün yaşadığı Ata yurdunda ulus egemenliğine dayanan kayıtsız şartsız bağımsız yeni Türk Devletine karşı savaş açmış durumdadırlar. Bu yerli işbirlikçilerin yanında; bunları destekleyen Ermeni, Rum, Süryanî gibi unsurları ve onların da birlikte olduğu, bizim de ittifak içinde bulunduğumuz kimi dost devletleri düşünecek olursak tehlikenin boyutları daha da artmaktadır
