    Get PDF
This paper investigates the problem of global finite-time stabilization by output feedback for a class of nonholonomic systems in chained form with uncertainties. By using backstepping recursive technique and the homogeneous domination approach, a constructive design procedure for output feedback control is given. Together with a novel switching control strategy, the designed controller renders that the states of closed-loop system are regulated to zero in a finite time. A simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach

The Neural Mechanism Underlying Cognitive and Emotional Processes in Creativity

Creativity is related to both cognition and emotion, which are the two major mental processes, interacting with each other to form psychological processes. Emotion is the major driving force of almost all creativities, sometimes in an unconscious way. Even though there are many studies concerning the relationship between creativity and cognition, there are few studies about the neural mechanisms of the emotional effects on creativity. Here, we introduce a novel model to explain the relationship between emotions and creativities: Three Primary Color model, which proposes that there are four major basic emotions; these basic emotions are subsided by three monoamines, just like the three primary colors: dopamine-joy, norepinephrine-stress (fear and anger), and serotonin-punishment. Interestingly, these three neuromodulators play similar roles in creativity, whose core features are value and novelty (surprise), like the characteristics of the core features of basic emotions (hedonic value and arousal value). Dysfunctions of these neuromodulators may be the reasons for both psychopathology and creativity, in that they can change the thinking styles such as novelty seeking behavior, hyper-connectivity of brain areas, and/or cognitive disinhibition to induce both creativity and psychopathology. This new model will not only help researchers understand the dynamics of basic emotion elements, it can also bring an entirely new perspective into the relationship between psychopathology and creativity

State-Feedback Stabilization for Stochastic High-Order Nonlinear Systems with Time-Varying Delays

    No full text
This paper investigates the problem of state-feedback stabilization for a class of stochastic high-order nonlinear systems with time-varying delays. Under the weaker conditions on the power order and the nonlinear growth, by using the method of adding a power integrator, a state-feedback controller is successfully designed, and the global asymptotic stability in the probability of the resulting closed-loop system is proven with the help of an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. A simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design procedure

Adaptive Output Feedback Stabilization of Nonholonomic Systems with Nonlinear Parameterization

    No full text
This paper investigates the problem of adaptive output feedback stabilization for a class of nonholonomic systems with nonlinear parameterization and strong nonlinear drifts. A parameter separation technique is introduced to transform nonlinearly parameterized system into a linear-like parameterized system. Then, by using the integrator backstepping approach based on observer and parameter estimator, a constructive design procedure for output feedback adaptive control is given. And a switching strategy is developed to eliminate the phenomenon of uncontrollability. It is shown that, under some conditions, the proposed controller can guarantee that all the system states globally converge to the origin, while other signals remain bounded. An illustrative example is also provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme

Finite-Time Stabilization of Stochastic Nonholonomic Systems and Its Application to Mobile Robot

    No full text
This paper investigates the problem of finite-time stabilization for a class of stochastic nonholonomic systems in chained form. By using stochastic finite-time stability theorem and the method of adding a power integrator, a recursive controller design procedure in the stochastic setting is developed. Based on switching strategy to overcome the uncontrollability problem associated with x0(0)=0, global stochastic finite-time regulation of the closed-loop system states is achieved. The proposed scheme can be applied to the finite-time control of nonholonomic mobile robot subject to stochastic disturbances. The simulation results demonstrate the validity of the presented algorithm

Further Result on Finite-Time Stabilization of Stochastic Nonholonomic Systems

This paper further investigates the problem of finite-time state feedback stabilization for a class of stochastic nonholonomic systems in chained form. Compared with the existing literature, the stochastic nonholonomic systems under investigation have more uncertainties, such as the x0-subsystem contains stochastic disturbance. This renders the existing finite-time control methods highly difficult to the control problem of the systems or even inapplicable. In this paper, by extending adding a power integrator design method to a stochastic system and by skillfully constructing C2 Lyapunov function, a novel switching control strategy is proposed, which renders that the states of closed-loop system are almost surely regulated to zero in a finite time. A simulation example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results
