    Get PDF
Supply chains have gained important focus after 2000s due to not only the opportunities that it can provide but also the complexity involved on its management. Into this context, the implementation of different management practices can help companies to achieve better performance in their supply chains. As part of these practices it can be considered the Performance Measurement System (PMS). The theory for PMS has been concentrated on only organization perspective. At the same time the theory about PMS for SCM is focused more on scope of measurementleaving a lack with regards other dimensions that must be considered on the PMS maturity development. Therefore, this paper aims to present the findings from the literature review about PMS for SCM and maturity of PMS. As contribution an theoretical model is proposed to help practitioners and researchers on the maturity management of PMSs for SCM

    Get PDF
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical approach based on the balanced scorecard (BSC) with regard to performance measurement – PM in supply chains for the Industry 4.0 era. Design/methodology/approach: This paper combines the literature of PM and specifically the BSC with the literature related to the dimensions of supply chain in the context of Industry 4.0. Findings: Dimensions extracted from the literature based on supply chains within the context of Industry 4.0 showed a strong alignment with the four perspectives of the BSC, which make it suitable to be considered as a performance measurement system (PMS) for supply chains in this new context. Research limitations/implications: From theoretical perspective, this study contributes to the limited literature on PM for supply chains in Industry 4.0 era. The study proposes a supply chain 4.0 Scorecard and strongly support researchers to conduct future empirical researches in order to get a deeper understanding about PM in supply chains in the Industry 4.0 era. As limitations, the theoretical framework proposed needs further empirical research in other to validate it and obtain new insights over the investigation conducted and presented into this paper. Practical implications: Practitioners can use this study as a guide to develop more effective performance measurement systems – PMSs in their organizations. Originality/value: This research is unique as it addresses a significant knowledge gap related to PM in supply chains in the Industry 4.0 era. It brings a significant contribution in terms of understanding how to measure performance in supply chains in this new era

Investigating the impact of COVID-19 on sustainable food supply chains

    Get PDF
Purpose- The ongoing pandemic has gravely affected different facets of society and economic trades worldwide. During the outbreak, most manufacturing and service sectors were closed across the globe except for essential commodities such as food and medicines. Consequently, recent literature has focused on studying supply chain resilience and sustainability in different pandemic contexts. This research adds to the existing literature by exploring the economic, environmental and societal aspects affecting the food supply chain and assessing the impact of COVID-19 on food sustainability. Design/methodology/approach- A survey method has been adopted with a questionnaire instrument investigating the role of technology, government policies, geopolitics and intermediaries on sustainable organisational management. A five-point Likert scale (i.e., 1: strongly disagree; 5: strongly agree) is used to evaluate the responses. The findings are based on 131 responses from entry-level workers and senior executives of different food supply chains across Asia and Europe. The data has been analysed to derive insights into the impacts of this pandemic. Findings- The survey concludes with the significant impact of COVID-19 on the three pillars of sustainability, i.e. economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The empirical analysis shows digitalization and its applications help mitigate the negative effect of COVID-19 on sustainability. In addition, the supportive government policies and intermediatory interventions were helpful in improving sustainability at each level. Social/Research/Practical Implications- The findings have implications for businesses and policymakers. Companies can learn from the advantages of digitalization to counter the challenges imposed by the pandemic or similar situations in the future in maintaining the sustainability of their supply chains. Managers can also learn the importance of effective organisational management in driving sustainability. Finally, policymakers can devise policies to support businesses in adopting sustainable practices in their supply chains. Originality/value- Our study adds to the limited literature exploring the impact of COVID-19 on food supply chain sustainability through the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) lens. This is also one of the first empirical studies to examine the effect of technology, government and organisational management practices on the sustainability of food supply chains

The contribution of knowledge management for Operational Excellence: the case study of a multinational

    Get PDF
The integration and coordination of the various functions and processes is a great challenge for organizations seeking operational excellence and a key factor is the management of human potential in the sense of how is the flow of information and knowledge that these people generate. However, is observed operational excellence models where the isolation of information and the lack of dissemination of knowledge occurs, leading a waste of human potential. Therefore, the research question is: how knowledge management can contribute to operational excellence? The purpose of this paper is to analyze this contribution by a review of the literature linking these two fields of knowledge and contextualized with the reality of a Brazilian multinational company. The result show that the knowledge management contributes to the operational excellence in the process of knowledge creation and the enabling conditions. The process of knowledge generation relates to the establishment of best practices and ways to transfer this knowledge and enabling conditions relate to strategic information and targets particularly the fluctuation and creative chaos

OBJECTIVES: Carotid artery stenting is an emerging revascularization alternative to carotid endarterectomy. However, guidelines have recommended carotid artery stenting only if the rate of periprocedural stroke or death is < 6% among symptomatic patients and < 3% among asymptomatic patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare clinical outcomes of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients who had undergone carotid artery stenting as a first-intention treatment. METHOD: A retrospective analysis of patients who underwent carotid artery stenting by our interventional neuroradiology team was conducted. Patients were divided into two groups: symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. The primary endpoints were ipsilateral ischemic stroke, ipsilateral parenchymal hemorrhage and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events at 30 days. The secondary endpoints included ipsilateral ischemic stroke, ipsilateral parenchymal hemorrhage, ipsilateral transient ischemic attack and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events between the 1- and 12-month follow-ups. RESULTS: A total of 200 consecutive patients were evaluated. The primary endpoints obtained in the symptomatic vs. asymptomatic groups were ipsilateral stroke (2.4% vs. 2.7%, p = 1.00), ipsilateral parenchymal hemorrhage (0.8% vs. 0.0%, p = 1.00) and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (4.7% vs. 2.7%, p = 0.71). The secondary endpoints obtained in the symptomatic vs. asymptomatic groups were ipsilateral ischemic stroke (0.0% vs. 0.0%), ipsilateral parenchymal hemorrhage (0.0% vs. 0.0%), ipsilateral TIA (0.0% vs. 0.0%, p = 1.00) and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (11.2% vs. 4.1%, p = 0.11). CONCLUSIONS: In this retrospective study, carotid artery stenting was similarly safe and effective when performed as a first-intention treatment in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. The study results comply with the safety requirements from current recommendations to perform carotid artery stenting as an alternative treatment to carotid endarterectomy
