Three parasitoid species were recovered; the species were identified as Beskia aelops Walker (Diptera:Tachinidae), Gymnoclytia sp.     We report results from a survey of palm-associated Fulgoroidea (planthoppers), following the recent discoveries of Haplaxius crudus, a known palm phytoplasma vector, and of other potential planthopper vectors in Puerto Rico. The survey, which sampled from 40 sites, resulted In the identification of 30 morpho-species belonging to eight Fulgoroidea families. The 10 most common species accounted for 93.9% of individuals, whereas near one third (n = 9) of the species were represented by single individuals. Derbids and cixiids accounted for 90% of collected individuals. The most common species were the derbids Cedusa inflata (Ball) and Omolicna puertana Caldwell, while the most common cixiids were Bothriocera undata (F.) and Oliarus complectus Ball; and the most common flatids were Petrusa epilepsis (Kirkaldy) and Melornemis antillarum (Kirkaldy). Three species are new records for Puerto Rico: the cixiids Haplaxius crudus Van Duzee and Nymphomyndus caribbaea (Fennah), and the derbid Neocenchrea ca. pallida Metcalf. Impact of polyphagy and of abundance-diversity patterns of this planthopper guild on phytoplasma epidemiology are briefly discussed.Luego de la reciente introducción en Puerto Rico del insecto vector del amarillamiento letal del cocotero, Haplaxius crudus, y de la identificación de un fitoplasma en palmas enfermas realizamos un catastro de potenciales vectores de la enfermedad en Puerto Rico. El catastro, que incluyó 40 localidades y cubrió toda la isla, resultó en la identificación de 30 morfoespecies de Fulgoroidea, pertenecientes a ocho familias. Entre los hallazgos se encuentra que el 93.9% de los individuos coleccionados pertenecen a una de las 10 especies más comunes, y que cerca de un tercio de las especies fueron coleccionadas tan solo una vez. El 90% de los individuos pertenecían a las familias Derbidae y Cixiidae. Las especies más comunes fueron los dérbidos Cedusa inflata (Ball) y Omolicna puertana Caldwell, seguidos por los cixiidos Bothriocera undata (F.) y Oliarus complectus Ball; los flátidos más comunes fueron Petrusa epilepsis (Kirkaldy) y Melornemis antillarum (Kirkaldy). Tres especies constituyen nuevos récords para Puerto Rico: los cixiidos Haplaxius crudus Van Duzee y Nymphomyndus caribbaea (Fennah), y el dérbido Neocenchrea ca. pallida Metcalf. Se discuten las posibles implicaciones de la polifagia, y de los patrones de abundancia y diversidad sobre la epidemiología de los fitoplasmas de palmas

    The oriental thrips, Thrips palmi, was introduced into Puerto Rico in 1986- 87, causing severe damage on solanaceous and cucurbitaceous crops. In 1988 and 1989, trials were established at the Juana Diaz Experiment Substation to evaluate the efficacy of low and high rates of methomyl (0.5 Kg & 1 Kg ΑΙ/ha), azinphosmethyl (281 & 560 g ΑΙ/ha), esfenvalerate (32 & 57 g ΑΙ/ha) and oxamyl (560 g & 1.1 Kg/ha) in reducing oriental thrips populations. Application intervals, i.e, once ortwice/week, were also studied in a completely randomized block factorial design. Plots were sampled at weekly intervals. No differences in thrips population densities were detected between insecticides nor application rates from neither year. Similarly no differences were found between the effectiveness of high or low insecticide doses. Plant yield was greatly influenced by treatment, with esfenvalerate methomyl unsprayed control azinphosmethyl oxamyl. No correlations were found between yield and thrips population density. Mean thrips population was 0.1 individuals per leaf. ----- Le Thrips oriental, Thrips palmi, a été introduit à Porto Rico en 1986-87, causant des pertes sérieuses sur les cultures de Solanées et de Cucurbitacées. En 1988 et 1989, des études ont été entreprises à la station expérimentale de Juana Diaz pour évaluer l'efficacité de traitement à faibles et fortes doses de méthomyl (0,5 Kg et 1 Kg ΑΙ/ha), d'azinphosméthyl (281 et 560 g ΑΙ/ha), d'esfenvalerate (32 et 57 g ΑΙ/ha) et d'oxamyl (560 et 1,1 Kg/ ha) pour le contrôle des populations de thrips. L'effet de l'intervalle entre plusieurs applications (une ou deux fois par semaine) a également été étudié en utilisant un dispositif en bloc et en randomisation totale. Des échantillonnages hebdomadaires ont été effectués pour cela. La densité de population des thrips n'a pas été influencée par l'insecticide utilisée, ni par les doses ni par les dates de traitement. Par contre, le rendement a beaucoup varié suivant l'insecticide. On peut donner le classement suivant par ordre décroissant d'efficacité : esfenvalérate, méthomyl, témoin, azinphosméthyl, oxamyl. Nous n'avons mis en évidence aucune corrélation entre le rendement et la densité de population de thrips. Les moyennes de population étaient de 0,1 individu par feuille

    Pentatomoidea fauna for Puerto Rico and its adjacent islands is documented as part of a revised account of Heteroptera on these islands. There are 71 species in six families of Pentatomoidea known from Puerto Rico: Cydnidae (11); Pentatomidae (48) including Asopinae (8), Pentatominae (37), Discocephalinae (1), and Edessinae (2); Tessaratomidae (1); Scutelleridae (8); Megarididae (1); and Corimelaenidae (2). Of this total, seven represent new state records for Puerto Rico. Taxonomic accounts include synonymies, known distribution, lists of hosts, and a listing of specimens examined. Regional taxonomical keys are provided for the identification of taxa included. Color plates for most species are also included.La fauna de Pentatomoidea de Puerto Rico y de sus islas adyacentes se presenta como parte de una revisión de los Heterópteros de estas islas. Se presentan 71 especies en seis familias de Pentatomoidea conocidas de Puerto Rico: Cydnidae (11); Pentatomidae (48): Asopinae (8), Pentatominae (37), Discocephalinae (1); Edessinae (2); Tessaratomidae (1); Scutelleridae (8); Megarididae (1); y Corimelaenidae (2). Siete especies representan récords nuevos para Puerto Rico. Para cada récord de las especies presentadas se incluyen sus sinonimias, su distribución conocida, sus hospederos, y una lista de los especímenes examinados. También se incluyen claves taxonómicas y fotos a color para identificar la mayoría de las especies discutidas
