Trade policy and obesity prevention: challenges and innovation in the Pacific Islands

The article documents the challenges the Pacific Islands are facing regarding food supply and trade, and how trade and trade agreements contribute to the obesogenic food environment. As non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are responsible for 75% of deaths in the region, these countries have been innovative in developing trade-related policy approaches. Existing policy interventions employed in the region to improve food supply are highlighted, along with implications for how the Pacific Islands may work towards a healthier food environment.
