    Population of a low-spin positive-parity band from high-spin intruder states in 177Au : The two-state mixing effect

    Get PDF
The extremely neutron-deficient isotopes 177,179Au were studied by means of in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy. Specific tagging techniques, α-decay tagging in 177Au and isomer tagging in 179Au, were used for these studies. Feeding of positive-parity, nearly spherical states, which are associated with 2d3/2 and 3s1/2 proton-hole configurations, from the 1i13/2 proton-intruder configuration was observed in 177Au. Such a decay path has no precedent in odd-Au isotopes and it is explained by the effect of mixing of wave functions of the initial state

Representation of relief types in geomorphological mapping of a glaciated shield area (Finland)

According to modern conceptions, the geomorphological map consists of several superposed informational layers. The IGU Commission on Geomorphological Survey and Mapping suggests the fundamental layer, apart from the topographical base, to be a representation of relief types discerned on the basis of either morphostructure or morphogenesis as a function of morphometrical variables. The relief‑type representation methods of the small‑scale, medium‑scale and large‑scale legends recommended by the Commission were applied to an area in south Finland. The application involved a few slight revisions of the legends. With these changes, the tested relief‑type representation methods appeared suitable as a base for geomorphological maps of glaciated shield areas. The other informational layers have not been discussed in the paper

An international symposium on preglacial weathering and planation, arranged jointly by the Geographical Society of Finland and the Geological Society of Finland, was held from 13th to 17th May, 1985 at HyytiÀlÀ in southern Finland, 190 km north of Helsinki. Present at the symposium were 42 geologists and geographers from six countries. Edited versions of most of the papers presented are published as a part of Fennia 163: 2, 1985
