A functionalized paramagnetic manganite La0.33Ca0.67MnO3 was investigated for its morphological, optical and antimicrobial properties. The manganite was capped by using a citrate ligand. The UV-visible spectrophotometer was used in monitoring the optical bands of the metal-citrate complex. It was observed to absorb in the visible region. The metal-citrate was reacted with a biologically active ligand (N-(3-nitrophenyl)-3-phenyl-2-(phenylsulfonamido) propanamide). The optical bands observed from the metal-citrate were used in monitoring the reaction between the metal-citrate and N-(3-nitrophenyl)-3-phenyl-2-(phenylsulfonamido) propanamide). The morphological property of the product formed was determined using SEMEDAX. The effect of the complex formed on the organic ligand, N-(3-nitrophenyl)-3-phenyl-2- (phenylsulfonamido) propanamide) was determined using 1H and 13C NMR. The bacterial inhibitory property of the metal-citrate- N-(3-nitrophenyl)-3-phenyl-2-(phenylsulfonamido) propanamide) complex was determined against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus auerus. It was observed to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus only. The biological activities of the metal-citrate N-(3-nitrophenyl)-3-phenyl-2-(phenylsulfonamido) propanamide) suggest its use as an alternative antibacterial therapy

This study explored the factors associated with the uptake of antenatal care services among internally displaced women (IDW) innorthern Nigeria. The sample included ANC visits for 422 respondents who had a birth five years before the survey and living inthe selected camps. Multinomial logistic regression was applied. Findings showed that only 28% of women visited ANC clinicsfor the recommended number of visits. IDW with some form of education were significantly more likely to have attended four ormore ANC visits compared to the IDW with no education. Other covariates found to have a significant relationship with four ormore ANC visits include, camp of displacement and access to newspaper. To improve uptake of ANC to fit the recommendationsof the WHO and meet SDG3, the government and humanitarian organizations should continue to use media as a tool for advocacyin educating women on the benefits of complying with the recommended number of ANC uptake. Oculomotor nerve schwannomas are exceedingly rare and the management of symptomatic tumors is challenging. We present a case of a painful third nerve palsy secondary to oculomotor nerve schwannoma that had significant improvement with partial resection

    Overdiagnosis Of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension

"Primary benign headaches are common, occurring in up to 24% of young women. This, combined with the increasing prevalence of obesity and awareness of IIH, has led to an increase in costly and invasive evaluations for headache, often in the absence of documented papilledema. Our objective was to quantify overdiagnosis of IIH among patients seen on our Neuro- Ophthalmology service.

Human health risk and food safety implications of microplastic consumption by fish from coastal waters of the eastern equatorial Atlantic Ocean

Data availability: Data will be made available on request. We examined the gastro-intestinal tracts (guts) of 160 fish species obtained from Nigerian coastal waters for microplastics and estimated annual microplastic intake by adult human population in the region from the fish species. A total of 5744 microplastics were recovered from the fish species analyzed with an average of 39.65 ± 5.67 items/individual. Microbeads (43%) occurred in all guts assessed, followed by fragments (27%), burnt film (14%), thread (9%), fibers (4%), and pellets (3%). Most microplastics recovered were below 1000 μm with the least size being 85 μm. Based on the size classes estimated for this study, we argue based on literature that close to 15% (i.e., >100 μm) of the microplastics in the guts studied have the potential to translocate gut barriers of the fish species into muscles, where they get ingested by humans, and thereon get translocated to other human organ tissues. The estimated annual intake of microplastics from the consumption of whole fish by the adult population followed the trend; M. cephalus (178,220) > I. Africana (131,670) > P. senegalensis (115,710) > P. jubelini (109,060) > S. maderensis (101,080) > G. decadactylus (101,346) > S. melanotheron (65,170). Estimated annual intakes were generally higher for fish species with broad habitat and feeding preferences.Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), U
