Mixed finite element solution for the navier-stokes equations

A mixedfinite element methodfor the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The scheme uses discontinuousfinite elements that allow the utilization of upwind derivatives. This makes the scheme more stable and accelerates the convergence. Moreover the boundary layer is better consideredfor high Reynolds numbers. The existence of a solution and the convergence of the se heme are established. Results inside a square cavity far Re = 10000 far the recirculating jlow, the stream function and their second derivatives, viscous stress tensor and velocity vector are obtained. Use of Daptomycin for the Treatment of Methicillin-Resistant Coagulase-Negative Staphylococcal Ventriculitis

Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are the main pathogens causing hospital-acquired external-ventricular-drain- (EVD-) and lumbar-drain- (LD-) associated meningitis and ventriculitis. The treatment of these infections can be challenging and may require combination of intraventricular and intravenous administration of antibiotics. Limited animal data demonstrate rapid daptomycin bactericidal activity, adequate penetration in the setting of inflamed meninges, and extended half-life in the ventricles Steenbergen et al. (2009). There are limited clinical data using daptomycin intravenously and/or intraventricularly for the treatment of central nervous system infections (CNS) Elvy et al. (2008), Stucki et al. Movimientos sociales y conflicto en América Latina

Este libro -que tiene su origen en el seminario latinoamericano "Conflicto social, militarización y democracia. Nuevos problemas y desafíos para los estudios sobre conflicto y paz en la región"- reúne un conjunto de contribuciones que abordan el análisis de algunas de las experiencias más significativas forjadas por los movimientos sociales y populares en nuestra Latinoamérica reciente. Estos textos reflexionan así sobre las características que asume la creciente conflictividad social desplegada en la región en cuestionamiento de las recetas neoliberales que signaron la realidad de nuestros países en las últimas décadas. Desde esta mirada los autores analizan los procesos sociales y políticos vividos en Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Venezuela y Uruguay en los últimos años. En sus páginas transitan las experiencias del Movimiento de Trabajadores Sin Tierra (MST) en Brasil, de los movimientos campesinos e indígenas en Bolivia (especialmente el movimiento cocacolero del Chapare) y Ecuador (particularmente la CONAIE), del zapatismo, y de la protesta y experimentación popular que tuvo lugar en la Argentina -particularmente entre 2001 y 2002-, entre otros. Por otra parte un conjunto de las contribuciones están dedicadas a analizar los procesos de militarización social y criminalización de la protesta qeu trágicamente toman cuerpo en muchos países latinoamericanos, acentuados por las proclamas de la "guerra infinita" y los nuevos autoritarismos que promueven el "neoliberalismo armado". Peace in crisis: territorialize the crisis

Paz en crisis es un proyecto editorial con el que se cierra un programa de investi gación de años atrás y en el que se condensan distintas aproximaciones sobre la paz; en esta oportunidad, bajo la lupa o noción de crisis. Los aportes se encuentran agrupados en 4 tomos, 44 capítulos y 6 bloques temáticos en donde 87 autores ofrecen perspectivas multidisciplinares y multidimensionales, pluralidad meto dológica y variedad en las maneras de hacer investigación y con estilos de escritura diferenciados. Los tomos, en su conjunto, presentan reflexiones diversas sobre las antiguas, múltiples y nuevas conflictividades (tanto armadas como no armadas), así como de los diferentes actores (heredados, emergentes y transformados), en el escenario de lo que ha venido refiriéndose por algunos especialistas como una situación de posacuerdo bélico en Colombia. Este primer tomo, titulado Nociones, acuerdo e implementación (compuesto por trece capítulos y un epílogo), analiza la situación actual de la paz, la democra cia, la seguridad y el ejercicio de los derechos en Colombia, demostrando que lejos de las aspiraciones de estabilización y avance contenidas en los acuerdos, es una renovada y multimodal conflictividad la que define el contexto nacional. En este tomo se apunta a debatir nociones conceptuales y aproximaciones a proble máticas particulares, que resultan relevantes en el marco contextual de crisis que atraviesa la implementación de los acuerdos de paz alcanzados en La Habana. A global metagenomic map of urban microbiomes and antimicrobial resistance

We present a global atlas of 4,728 metagenomic samples from mass-transit systems in 60 cities over 3 years, representing the first systematic, worldwide catalog of the urban microbial ecosystem. This atlas provides an annotated, geospatial profile of microbial strains, functional characteristics, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) markers, and genetic elements, including 10,928 viruses, 1,302 bacteria, 2 archaea, and 838,532 CRISPR arrays not found in reference databases. We identified 4,246 known species of urban microorganisms and a consistent set of 31 species found in 97% of samples that were distinct from human commensal organisms. Profiles of AMR genes varied widely in type and density across cities. Cities showed distinct microbial taxonomic signatures that were driven by climate and geographic differences.
