A one-dimensional model for the growth of CdTe quantum dots on Si substrates
Recent experiments involving CdTe films grown on Si(111) substrates by hot
wall epitaxy revealed features not previously observed [S. O. Ferreira
\textit{et al.}, J. Appl. Phys. \textbf{93}, 1195 (2003)]. This system, which
follows the Volmer-Weber growth mode with nucleation of isolated 3D islands for
less than one monolayer of evaporated material, was described by a peculiar
behavior of the quantum dot (QD) size distributions. In this work, we proposed
a kinetic deposition model to reproduce these new features. The model, which
includes thermally activated diffusion and evaporation of CdTe, qualitatively
reproduced the experimental QD size distributions. Moreover, the model predicts
a transition from Stranski-Krastanow growth mode at lower temperatures to
Volmer-Weber growth mode at higher ones characterized through the QD width
distributions.Comment: to appear in Physics Letters
New challenges for Conservar Património
The current issue sets the beginning of a new stage of the journal Conservar Património. From its genesis until issue number 31, António João Cruz and Francisca Figueira were the Editor and Associate editor of the journal. We would like to highlight their great commitment and perseverance in the odyssey of setting up a periodic journal dedicated to the con- servation of heritage within the non-profit association ARP – Associação Profissional de Conservadores-restauradores de Portugal, and of being able to raise the journal to a level of recognized relevance and prominence in both national and international contexts
Photoacoustic Measurement Of The Thermal Diffusivity Of Pb1-xsnxte Alloys
A simple open photoacoustic cell method is demonstrated for obtaining the thermal diffusivity of Pb1-xSnxTe alloys. It is based upon the measurement of the acoustic signal as a function of the modulation frequency in the region where the sample is thermally thick. The dependence of the measured values of the thermal diffusivity as a function of the alloy composition is also discussed. © 1989 The American Physical Society.39117967797
Cercosporin production by Cercospora coffeicola isolates: spectrophotometry and HPLC quantification and image analysis
Cercosporin has excellent properties of photosensitization that have been widely used in organophotocatalyst and photodynamic
therapy as well as an antimicrobial agent. Therefore, there is a need to quantify it accurately with accessible methods.
A comparative analysis of cercosporin quantification obtained by spectrophotometry (SPEC) and high-performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC) was performed for nineteen Cercospora coffeicola isolates from different coffee-producing municipalities
in Brazil. Image analysis of cercosporin crystals was performed in isolates with either high or low production of
the toxin. Our results show that SPEC and HPLC are equally valid for the cercosporin evaluation of C. coffeicola cultures
grown in vitro. The isolates with high cercosporin production had a higher crystal number and size when compared to the
one with low cercosporin productioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
