Acceptance of an Augmented Reality system as a visualization tool for Computer-Aided Design classes
This paper presents a study conducted with nineteen students from the Technical University of Catalonia. The study examines user experience and acceptance of an Augmented Reality (AR) system as a visualization tool for Computer-Aided Design (CAD) classes. Although results showed that AR does not improve the learning of CAD techniques, students mentioned that they would find it useful and interesting to continue using AR in CAD lectures. They said that AR helps them to easily understand the forms and volumes of objects and better comprehend the location of objects in the space and its relations with others. This paper presents a study conducted with nineteen students from the Technical University of Catalonia. Distance Multimedia Degree Studies. The Application of Multimedia Technology to Multimedia Studies
This paper describes the set of courses that make up the distance multimedia degree studies offered by the UPC in conjunction with the UOC. These courses are designed to meet the increasing demand for continued education by integrating the advances in information technologies currently arising from new paradigms in distance learning.
The study plan has been specially designed and is fully interdisciplinary. The plan draws on three areas of knowledge: creation and design of the programme content, marketing and management of multimedia production, and computer and communications technology.
The educational model seeks a balance between practical activities, similar to those students are likely to undertake in the workplace, and theory−based reading tasks aimed at furthering and consolidating their grasp of the concepts involved. The model is structured around three elements: self−access material, virtual activities, and real activities. The self−access materials and the assessment system give the student continued feedback on their progress. The average age of the students is 32'3 years (range 19−55). Most are men (77%), and 60% are pursuing university studies for the first time.
A key element of the distance multimedia studies is the involvement of the teachers in the preparation of the multimedia teaching materials. This role means that they must be trained in materials design and must use models of specific contents.
The activities of the course tutor and the general tutor combine a proactive attitude with rapid response to the questions that arise as part of the Distance Multimedia Degree. This paper describes the set of courses that make up the distance multimedia degree studies offered by the UPC in conjunction with the UOC. Reducing techno-anxiety in high school teachers by improving their ICT problem-solving skills
Teachers need to continuously update their information and communication technologies (ICT) knowledge, but they are usually not trained to deal with the problems arising from their use. In fact, studies in the literature report techno-anxiety (i.e. unpleasant physiological activation and discomfort due to present or future use of ICT) in teachers. Thus, the goal of this action research is to study if teachers’ techno-anxiety can be reduced by increasing their ability to solve technological problems. An inter-subject experiment has been carried out with 46 teachers. High school teachers were chosen because they are digital immigrants, while at the moment of this research their students are digital natives (born around year 2000). Since we could not find any specific training for teachers to increase their resolution skills of technological problems, in order to apply the treatment for our study, we have designed and deployed an online course about ICT problem-solving skills based on the 70/20/10 model for learning and development. Results show the success of the course when it comes to increasing the ICT problem-solving skills and to reducing techno-anxiety.Preprin
Revealing the role of Pb 2+ in the stability of organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite CH 3 NH 3 Pb 1− x Cd x I 3: an experimental and theoretical study
This paper presents the synthesis of organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite CH3NH3Pb1−xCdxI3. The effect of incorporating Cd2+ or Pb2+ on the stability of the perovskite structure was analysed from a theoretical and experimental viewpoint. The XRD results showed that the tetragonal perovskite structure was formed for x values of up to 0.5, which seems to indicate that the presence of a considerable amount of Pb2+ is necessary to stabilise the structure. In turn, UV-Vis spectroscopy showed how the presence of Cd2+ led to a reduction in the optical band gap of the perovskite structure of up to 9% for CH3NH3Pb0.5Cd0.5I3 with regard to the MAPbI3 structure. Moreover, periodic-DFT calculations were performed to understand the effect of the increased concentration of Cd on the structural and electronic properties of MAPbI3 perovskites. The analysis of both the ELF and the non-covalent interaction (NCI) index show the important role played by the Pb2+ ions in stabilizing this kind of hybrid perovskite structures. Finally, the DOS analysis confirmed the experimental results obtained using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The theoretical band gap values decreased as the concentration of Cd increased.Junta de Andalucía (P09- FQM-04938)Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER)Centro Informático Científico de Andalucía (CICA
Strategic planning for community sustainability in model forests: Case study of the Yoro model forest, Honduras
