Purpose. The article is devoted to the actual topic of functioning a language in the mass media. The subject of the analysis is stylistic figures in English-language texts of mass communication in the context of translation into Russian. The authors aim to analyze the functioning of figures in online publications from The New Yorker and The American Thinker, which have significant evaluative and manipulative potential.Methodology. The research is based on the comparative method, methods of linguistic description and continuous sampling.Results. The use of stylistic figures is one of the tools for implementing a manipulative strategy of veiled formation of certain assessments and approval of specific ideas. The most productive stylistic figures in the studied contemporary texts in mass communication are repetition, parallelism, polysyndeton and asyndeton, gradation, paranthesis, and rhetorical questions. Complex, mixed transformations were used to translate figures of speech from English into Russian, but in most cases the figures of speech themselves were preserved in the analyzed texts. Thus, practice has shown that rhetorical figures in mass communication texts can be translated into Russian in most cases without loss of the text’s persuasiveness.Practical implications. The results of the research can be applied for pedagogical and educational purposes, as well as for professional activities of translators when working with mass communication texts.Цель. Статья посвящена актуальной теме функционирования языка в средствах массовой информации. Предметом анализа выступают стилистические фигуры в англоязычных текстах массовой коммуникации в контексте перевода на русский язык. Авторы ставят целью проанализировать функционирования фигур в текстах интернет-изданий «The New Yorker» и «The American Thinker», обладающих значительным оценочным и манипулятивным потенциалом.

Sustained-release pramipexole in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease

    No full text
Dopamine (DA) receptor agonists ensure stimulation of DA receptors in the brain, by compensating for dopaminergic deficiency in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Since 1996, pramipexole has been used to treat early and extensive PD stages; its clinical efficacy has been proven in many double-blind randomized placebo-controlled and open-labeled trials. Since 2009 the European countries and the USA has used extendedrelease pramipexole (ERP) that is given once daily. Its benefits are stabilized plasma drug concentrations, 24-hour action, which provides continuous dopaminergic stimulation ofpostsynaptic receptors for the prevention and therapy of already existing motor fluctuations and drug-induced dyskinesias. Once-daily dosing of ERP increases the adherence of a patient with PD to regular treatment. Two (extended- and immediate-release) formulations of pramipexole differ only in the release rate for the active ingredient from the contents of a tablet. Both formulations contain the same active ingredient, have the similar profile of interacting with DA receptors, and show pharmacotherapeutic efficacy

Dopamine dysregulation syndrome in Parkinson’s disease

Dopamine dysregulation syndrome (DDS) is an iatrogenic disease developing during dopaminergic therapy. According to the data available in the literature, DDS develops in 3-4% of the Parkinson’s disease (PD) cases. DDS in PD is frequently accompanied by other impulse control disorders (ICD): punding, compulsive shopping, hypersexuality, overeating. 246 patients with PD, of whom 16 (6.4%) were found to have DDS, were examined. The patients’ age was 64±7.4 years. Women (n = 10) more often developed DDS than men (n = 6). The patients mainly suffered from the mixed form of the disease. Stages III and IV were diagnosed in 72 and 22%, respectively. The duration of PD was 12+2.6 years. In the PD patients with DDS, the quality-of-life indicators ranged from 19.8 to 90% (54+20.1%). The equivalent dose of levodopa is 1323.4+299 mg/day. DDS was concurrent with other types of ICD in 4 patients: panding in 2, compulsive shopping and punding in 1, and punding and hypersexuality. The doses of levodopa were corrected in patients receiving high doses of dopaminergic drugs. In the patients with DDS concurrent with punding or hypersexuality, the dose of dopaminergic receptor agonists was gradually reduced and subsequently discontinued

The clinical picture of early-stage Parkinson’s disease. errors in the diagnosis of different forms

The paper describes the clinical picture of Parkinson’s disease (PD), by indicating its stages in accordance with the classifications by different authors. It gives clinical diagnostic criteria for PD and indicates difficulties in making its correct diagnosis. Clinical examples were used to demonstrate misdiagnosed cases confirming a variety of the clinical symptoms at PD onset, which suggest that there is the need for a thorough patient examination and history data collection

The study results make a certain contribution to the development of consumers behaviour studies in hotels and form interest for hoteliers to positively affect their consumers’ behavior.
