Quantum Noise in Multipixel Image Processing
We consider the general problem of the quantum noise in a multipixel
measurement of an optical image. We first give a precise criterium in order to
characterize intrinsic single mode and multimode light. Then, using a
transverse mode decomposition, for each type of possible linear combination of
the pixels' outputs we give the exact expression of the detection mode, i.e.
the mode carrying the noise. We give also the only way to reduce the noise in
one or several simultaneous measurements.Comment: 8 pages and 1 figur
Direct Production of Tripartite Pump-Signal-Idler Entanglement in the Above-Threshold Optical Parametric Oscillator
We calculate the quantum correlations existing among the three output fields
(pump, signal, and idler) of a triply resonant non-degenerate Optical
Parametric Oscillator operating above threshold. By applying the standard
criteria [P. van Loock and A. Furusawa, Phys. Rev. A 67, 052315 (2003)], we
show that strong tripartite continuous-variable entanglement is present in this
well-known and simple system. Furthermore, since the entanglement is generated
directly from a nonlinear process, the three entangled fields can have very
different frequencies, opening the way for multicolored quantum information
networks.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
From spin-Peierls to superconductivity: (TMTTF)_2PF_6 under high pressure
The nature of the attractive electron-electron interaction, leading to the
formation of Cooper-pairs in unconventional superconductors has still to be
fully understood and is subject to intensive research. Here we show that the
sequence spin-Peierls, antiferromagnetism, superconductivity observed in
(TMTTF)_2PF_6 under pressure makes the (TM)_2X phase diagram universal. We
argue that the suppression of the spin-Peierls transition under pressure, the
close vicinity of antiferromagnetic and superconducting phases at high pressure
as well as the existence of critical antiferromagnetic fluctuations above T_c
strongly support the intriguing possibility that the interchain exchange of
antiferromagnetic fluctuations provides the pairing mechanism required for
bound charge carriers.Comment: 4 pages, revtex, 4 figures (jpeg,eps,png
Entanglement measurement of the quadrature components without the homodyne detection in the spatially multi-mode far-field
We consider the measuring procedure that in principle allows to avoid the
homodyne detection for the simultaneous selection of both quadrature components
in the far-field. The scheme is based on the use of the coherent sources of the
non-classical light. The possibilities of the procedure are illustrated on the
basis of the use of pixellised sources, where the phase-locked sub-Poissonian
lasers or the degenerate optical parametric oscillator generating above
threshold are chosen as the pixels. The theory of the pixellised source of the
spatio-temporal squeezed light is elaborated as a part of this investigation.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, RevTeX4. Submitted to Phys. Rev.
exploding clusters dynamics probed by XUV fluorescence
Clusters excited by intense laser pulses are a unique source of warm dense
matter, that has been the subject of intensive experimental studies. The
majority of those investigations concerns atomic clusters, whereas the
evolution of molecular clusters excited by intense laser pulses is less
explored. In this work we trace the dynamics of clusters
triggered by a few-cycle 1.45-m driving pulse through the detection of XUV
fluorescence induced by a delayed 800-nm ignition pulse. Striking differences
among fluorescence dynamics from different ionic species are observed
Cranial integration in the fire salamander, Salamandra salamandra (Caudata: Salamandridae)
Phenotypic integration and modularity are concepts that represent the pattern of connectivity of morphological structures within an organism. Integration describes the coordinated variation of traits, and analyses of these relationships among traits often reveals the presence of modules, sets of traits that are highly integrated but relatively independent of other traits. Phenotypic integration and modularity have been studied at both the evolutionary and static level across a variety of clades, although most studies thus far are focused on amniotes, and especially mammals. Using a high-dimensional geometric morphometric approach, we investigated the pattern of cranial integration and modularity of the Italian fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra giglioli). We recovered a highly modular pattern, but this pattern did not support either entirely developmental or functional hypotheses of cranial organisation, possibly reflecting complex interactions amongst multiple influencing factors. We found that size had no significant effect on cranial shape, and that morphological variance of individual modules had no significant relationship with degree of within-module integration. The pattern of cranial integration in the fire salamander is similar to that previously recovered for caecilians, with highly integrated jaw suspensorium and occipital regions, suggesting possible conservation of patterns across lissamphibians
Ultra-low threshold CW Triply Resonant OPO in the near infrared using Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate
We have operated a CW triply resonant OPO using a PPLN crystal pumped by a
Nd:YAG laser at 1.06 micron and generating signal and idler modes in the 2-2.3
micron range. The OPO was operated stably in single mode operation over large
periods of time with a pump threshold as low as 500 microwatts.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, submitted to JEOS
