    Tanzania: HIV/AIDS

Tanzania has a lot of issues going on in the community, but HIV/AIDS is the number one issue they are facing. Over 5% of their population has the HIV/Aids virus. There are many interventions that have been tried in Tanzania. In the last year there have been over 50,000 new cases of HIV/Aids in Tanzania. The goal is to main those numbers go down dramatically in the coming years. The two most common interventions are trying to educate this subject at a young age and provide condoms to the population. They tried giving condoms out to the people of Tanzania because sexual intercourse is the number one way it is transmitted in Tanzania. Two interventions that I thought of that would help slow the spread of HIV/Aids where the they could make it a requirement that kids get tested for the virus before they go to school and secondly, I thought that the police could educate and crack down on prostitution and how it spreads the virus

Implementing tuple space on transputer meshes

Research Report submitted to the Faculty of Science, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, towards a partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science Johannesburg 1991This report describes and evaluates an implementation of the Linda tuple space abstraction on Transputer networks. There is evidence that suggests a need for a new programming methodology to support Transputer-based applications, and Linda, as an attractive and elegant alternative to existing methodologies, has great potential for this role. The research focuses on the implementation of a particular tuple space model, intermediate uniform distribution, on Transputer meshes. The objective of the research is to ascertain the extent of the communication overheads inherent in the implementation and hence evaluate the feasibility of the approach. The overheads are measured relative to message passing performance on native Transputer networks, and are shown to be significant. It is concluded that although the specific tuple space model is not ideally suited to Transputer-based systems and the implementation, as it stands, is too inefficient to be of practical use, the approach requires further exploration in order to exhaust its full research potential.MT201

Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2003.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The term 'representation' is often used to refer to the possibility of a link between literature and reality. The word also suggests the reiteration of an event and is used in literary studies to indicate that a representation should be read as the author's interpretation of events and thus as a mediated rendition thereof. This study focuses on the representation of a black character who lived in the 19th Century by a white author from the zo" Century, Arthur Japin, in his novel, De zwarte met het witte hart (1997). This novel, based on historical events, is a rendering of the lives of two Ashanti princes who were taken to the Netherlands in 1837 as guarantee to an agreement between the king of the Ashanti and the Netherlands. This study therefore looks at the way in which Japin interpreted and represented the available information in his novel. This study furthermore focuses on ways in which this novel, written in what may be termed a postcolonial era could be read as a continuation of the colonial discourse in the 21st Century. This is demonstrated by identifying and examining the characteristics of colonial discourse, postcolonial discourse, the historic novel and the didactic novel, as well as ways in which these genres deal with representation. The study refers to the work of literary and social theoreticians such as Edward Said, Frantz Fanon, Homi Bhabha, Gayatri Spivak, Linda Hutcheon and Maaike Meijer. The study indicates that this novel can partially be read as a continuation of the colonial discourse. The results of this study also indicates that an uncritical reading of the novel De zwarte met het witte hart could lead to a continuation of the colonial discourse in the 21st Century. The role and responsibility of the reader in the interpretation and the subversion of the colonial discourse could therefore be further investigated.AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die term 'representasie' word dikwels gebruik om die moontlikheid van 'n verband tussen die letterkunde en die werklikheid aan te dui.

The purpose of this research was to explore how management explains the difference between the overall service quality ratings of staff at Company X versus the overall service quality ratings of Company X. The organisation conducts customer service measurements on a regular basis to monitor their customers overall service experience regarding the staff and the organisation. The results of the research identified a discrepancy regarding customer perceptions of the service they receive from the staff versus the service Company X is providing. Management was the focus of the study due to management having a direct or indirect influence on service gaps in the organisation. The SERVQUAL model, together with systems theory, was applied as a framework to explore management perceptions as to why a service quality gap exists. In-depth face-to-face interviews were conducted with management staff of Company X who are responsible for customer service. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the interviews and through content analysis six main themes were identified with various subthemes. The theoretical and empirical objectives were addressed and it was concluded that inconsistent practices within the organisation specifically the lack of consistent performance management can create an inconsistent service experience. The findings also revealed that Company X have various focus areas to improve the overall customer experience of the organisation.M.A. (Psychology (Research consultation))Psycholog

Based on the gradual growth of debt and indebtedness relationships, this research intends to analyze the power relations and the struggles that involves debt. Beyond purely economic relationships debt concept allows us to identify the intricate dispute, oppositions and subjectivities that organize the debt system. As a dispositif it does not appear as an abstract concept, but as particular empirical realities. Debt is understood as a dispositif deeply linked to labor relations, as it is a promise of future work that may or may not be done. Hence the student debt is analyzed in its articulation with knowledge and practices of anatomo-political and biopolitical technologies of power. Student debt makes the indebted person to promise future work as a manner to repay creditor. Debt acts over bodies, conforming their future to present and reducing future possibilities to present determinations. As productive microcredit debt provides real possibilities for efectuate informal labour based on indebtedness. Microcredit debt allows informal workers to become “microentrepreneurs”, which will be monitored by the financial market and must meet the income expectations that creditors aim to extract. Conducting informal workers as the entrepreneurial man of neoliberal governmentality (entrepreneur of the self) to the rhythms of production and productivity required by the financial market. It also analyzes how debt promotes the mixing of relationships, causing a juxtaposition of previously separated spheres of life. By reducing family and community relationships to debt based relationship and expanding competition between subjects, debt produces a sociability of individual blame and punishment for those in debt.
