    Relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate in the rainbow gravity

    In this paper, we study the effects of a modified theory of gravity - the rainbow gravity - on the relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). We initially discuss some formal aspects of the model in order to compute the corrections to the relevant quantities of the condensate. Following, we evaluate the generating functional from which obtain some thermodynamic parameters. Then we calculate the corrected critical temperature TcT_c that sets the relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate considering the three principal rainbow functions, finding, in addition, a phenomenological upper bound for the parameters involved in the model. Finally, we discuss how harder is for the particles at an arbitrary temperature T<TcT<T_c to enter the condensed state compared to the usual scenario, {\it i.e.}, without rainbow gravity.Comment: 13 pages, 2 figure, matches version accepted in EP

    Effects of Lorentz violation in the Bose-Einstein condensation

    In this paper we study the corrections emergent from a Lorentz-violating CPT-odd extension of the complex scalar sector to the Bose-Einstein condensation and to the thermodynamics parameters. We initially discussed some features of the model to only then compute the corrections to the Bose-Einstein condensation. The calculations were done by computing the generating functional, from which we extract the thermodynamics parameters. We also obtained a Lorentz-violating correction for the critical temperature TcT_c that sets the Bose-Einstein Condensation.Comment: 6 pages. 2 figures. Version accepted by EPL.     Enhancing the handling of standard substitution weights on a hydrostatic weighing apparatus

    project “17RPT02-rhoLiqThe hydrostatic weighing apparatus is a first-level method used to measure the density of solids and liquids. At the Portuguese Institute for Quality the hydrostatic tests for the determination of the liquids’ density implies the multiple manual placement of a set of standard substitution weights on apparatus’ balance pan, leading to undesirable perturbations in the weighing environment. Also, by this the eccentricity effects on the balance, contribute for an unwanted increase of the measurement uncertainty. To overcome these phenomena, an automated mechanism was designed and implemented, which allows the placing and recollection of the set of standard weights on the balance. To validate the new mechanism, tests to ultrapure water at 20 °C were executed before and after its implementation and the obtained results were compared. Despite a 3-fold increase in density measurement uncertainty, mainly due to the exposure of the standard substitution weights to air convection currents, the execution of hydrostatic tests was improved, not only for the fact that the measurements are now carried out quicker, but also for the fact that the operator only needs to intervene once during the whole test. Moreover, the smaller absolute deviation from the reference density value for ultrapure water at 20 °C results also in a normalised error En lower than 1 (0.3), thus validating the designed automated mechanism for the handling of standard substitution weights.publishersversionpublishe

    O impacto alimentar esofágico é uma situação que na maioria dos casos é secundária a patologia esofágica congénita ou adquirida, podendo constituir a primeira manifestação da doença. Descreve-se um rapaz, 11 anos, saudável, com sialorreia e dor retrosternal que surgiram subitamente durante o jantar. Foi submetido a endoscopia digestiva alta, que revelou um fragmento de carne impactado no terço distal do esófago (que foi extraído) e estrias longitudinais na mucosa. A análise histológica das biópsias esofágicas foi compatível com eosinofilia esofágica. Iniciou terapêutica com inibidor da bomba de protões com melhoria clínica e histológica. O diagnóstico diferencial das principais causas de impacto alimentar associadas a eosinofilia esofágica, nomeadamente esofagite eosinofílica, doença do refluxo gastroesofágico e eosinofilia esofágica respondedora a inibidor da bomba de protões, constitui um desafio clínico.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
