ABSTRACT: This study aims to describe the vocabulary development methodology controlled for content representation on an electronic management system of records to the Embrapa Soja, from the perspective of integrated archiving. Reports the benefits achieved in the use of controlled vocabulary for organizing, processing and retrieval of information in the system. It covers the conceptual issues of controlled vocabulary and GED Systems - Electronic Management of Information. Significant improvement was observed in the research / search for information, therefore the controlled vocabulary of adoption, enabling standardization in the use of terms representing the informational content of the documents

    A Random Multifractal Tilling

We develop a multifractal random tilling that fills the square. The multifractal is formed by an arrangement of rectangular blocks of different sizes, areas and number of neighbors. The overall feature of the tilling is an heterogeneous and anisotropic random self-affine object. The multifractal is constructed by an algorithm that makes successive sections of the square. At each nn-step there is a random choice of a parameter ρi\rho_i related to the section ratio. For the case of random choice between ρ1\rho_1 and ρ2\rho_2 we find analytically the full spectrum of fractal dimensions

Abrupt field-induced transition triggered by magnetocaloric effect in phase-separated manganites

The occurrence at low temperatures of an ultrasharp field-induced transition in phase separated manganites is analyzed. Experimental results show that magnetization and specific heat step-like transitions below 5 K are correlated with an abrupt change of the sample temperature, which happens at a certain critical field. This temperature rise, a magnetocaloric effect, is interpreted as produced by the released energy at the transition point, and is the key to understand the existence of the abrupt field-induced transition. A qualitative analysis of the results suggests the existence of a critical growing rate of the ferromagnetic phase, beyond which an avalanche effect is triggered.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures included. Assessment of the traffic noise on thin layers

Traffic noise is an important branch of the environment pollution which deeply affects the population and for that reason it has been included in the set of pavement performance indicators. Nevertheless, the knowledge on the environmental impact of the existing surface pavement layers is very limited, particularly for what respects to tyre/road noise of thin layers. These layers are at the present time widely used in a great extent with rubberized asphalt both in urban and rural roads especially in the north of Portugal due to environmental concerns. In this paper the comparison of the tyre/road noise (Lmax) generated in roads with thin surface layers is made. The noise levels generated by light and heavy vehicles are set according to the Statistical Pass-By Method (SPB) of which test methods is described in the standard ISO 11819-1:1997. At management level the information provided by tyre/road noise tests is essential to support environmentally sustainable construction and maintenance alternatives. Furthermore, at project level, the results give some insight about the relation surface layers/traffic composition

Crankshaft failure analysis of a motor vehicle

    Get PDF
A case study of a crankshaft catastrophic failure of a motor vehicle and its failure analysis is presented. The crankshaft suffered a mechanical seizure on the crankpin no. 2 after 3 years in service. It was repaired and after 30,000 km the vehicle had a damage again, with a catastrophic failure on the same crankpin. A transversal macrograph of the crankpin revealed that the crankpin was rectified and filled with a metal alloy for the same nominal diameter. Two fatigue cracks growing to the center of the crankpin where the final fracture occurred. The symmetric semi-elliptical crack front profile confirms the effect of a pure mode I under alternating bending. The catastrophic failure was a consequence of the inadequate repairing by a non-authorized manufacturer.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Building Teen Futures with Underwater Robotics

Preparing young Americans with science and technology skills has been on the forefront of educational reform for several years, and Extension has responded. Robotics projects have become a natural fit for 4-H clubs, with members\u27 experiences ranging from using Lego® Mindstorms® and other purchase and assemble robotics kits to building and programming robots from raw materials. This article addresses one such club\u27s impacts on educational engagement, career trajectory, and life skills development. An annotated resource list for engaging youth in building underwater robots is provided in the Tools of the Trade article Resources for Underwater Robotics Education in this issue of the Journal of Extension
