Assessing the performance of XDP and AF-XDP based NFs in edge data center scenarios
While servers in traditional data centers can be specialized to run either CPU-intensive or network-intensive workloads, edge data centers need to consolidate both on the same machine(s) due to the reduced number of servers.
This paper presents some preliminary experiments to determine how to improve the overall throughput of the above servers, being XDP and AF_XDP the two main technologies into play
Galerkin-Laguerre Spectral Solution of Self-Similar Boundary Layer Problems
In this work the Laguerre basis for the biharmonic equation introduced by Jie Shen is employed in the spectral solution of self-similar problems of the boundary layer theory. An original Petrov-Galerkin formulation of the Falkner-Skan equation is presented which is based on a judiciously chosen special basis function to capture the asymptotic behaviour of the unknown. A spectral method of remarkable simplicity is obtained for computing Falkner-Skan-Cooke boundary layer flows. The accuracy and efficiency of the Laguerre spectral approximation is illustrated by determining the linear stability of nonseparated and separated flows according to the Orr-Sommerfeld equation. The pentadiagonal matrices representing the derivative operators are explicitly provided in an Appendix to aid an immediate implementation of the spectral solution algorithms
Attenuation of Lightning-Induced Effects on Overhead Distribution Systems in Urban Areas
Overhead distribution systems can be strongly affected and damaged by indirect lightning. The induced voltages are usually computed neglecting the surrounding geometry and the presence of buildings in urban areas. Buildings can strongly change the behavior of the measured lighting-induced electromagnetic (EM) fields in the proximity of the point of impact. As a consequence, induced voltages can deviate from what would be measured in the absence of buildings. This work proposes an analysis of the main variables, which affect the deviation of the EM fields and of the consequent induced voltages along an overhead distribution line due to the presence of a building. Different distances between the line and the building and different building heights are considered
Multiphysics analyses of the effect of package on the performances of PMUT transducers
The paper deals with the multiphysics modeling of piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducers (PMUT), that can be used in several practical applications. The model accounts for the multiple couplings between the mechanical fields and the electric and acoustic ones. The numerical solution has been sought by means of the finite element method, for the special case of axial symmetry. The model has been validated with reference to experimental data, that have been obtained by the Authors. The numerical procedure has been applied to carry out a parametric analysis of the effect of package, to extract a set of design guidelines
The three-body recombination of a condensed Bose gas near a Feshbach resonance
In this paper, we study the three-body recombination rate of a homogeneous
dilute Bose gas with a Feshbach resonance at zero temperature. The ground state
and excitations of this system are obtained. The three-body recombination in
the ground state is due to the break-up of an atom pair in the quantum
depletion and the formation of a molecule by an atom from the broken pair and
an atom from the condensate. The rate of this process is in good agreement with
the experiment on Na in a wide range of magnetic fields.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Long-Term Efficacy of Intensive Zoledronate Therapy and Predictors of Retreatment in Paget’s Disease of Bone
Despite the current debate on the best therapeutic approach, i.e. symptomatic vs intensive strategy, one zoledronate (Zol) infusion is effective in most patients with Paget’s disease of bone (PDB), whereas few need retreatment, whose predictors are not well established. We aimed to evaluate long-term efficacy of intensive Zol therapy and predictors of retreatment in PDB. Pagetic complications, clinical and biochemical response to Zol together with frequency of retreatment were retrospectively assessed in forty-seven PDB patients (age, mean ± SD: 72.5 ± 8.9 years, M/F: 24/23; symptomatic/asymptomatic: 16/31). Statistical analysis for retreatment prediction were based on Mann–Whitney U test, Pearson’s Χ2 and ROC curve analysis. During seven-year follow-up, all patients achieved pain relief and only one underwent arthroplasty. Bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP) detected three non-responder (6%) and six relapsing (13%) patients needing retreatment. Retreated patients had less old age (66.1 ± 11.2 vs 74.0 ± 7.7 years), higher frequency of polyostotic disease (78% vs 40%) and higher baseline (96.5 ± 24.8 vs 44.9 ± 27.7 mcg/l) and post-Zol nadir BAP levels (24.7 ± 24.1 vs 8.1 ± 4.1 mcg/l) than patients treated once (p < 0.05 for all comparisons). In multivariate analysis both serum baseline and post-Zol nadir BAP significantly predicted retreatment (OR 1.09, 95%CI 1.01–1.17 and 1.29, 1.03–1.62, respectively), with ROC curve analysis showing the greatest accuracies for threshold values of 75.6 and 9.9 mcg/l (sensitivity 88 and 90%, specificity 94 and 86%, AUC 0.92 and 0.93, respectively). Our data in mostly asymptomatic, metabolically active PDB patients treated with intensive Zol therapy show a negligible incidence of pagetic complications and long-term optimal disease control, with BAP being the best predictor of retreatment
Air-coupled PMUT at 100 kHz with PZT active layer and residual stresses: Multiphysics model and experimental validation
In this paper a complete Multiphysics modelling via the Finite Element Method (FEM) of an air-coupled Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer (PMUT) is described, with its experimental validation related to the mechanical and acoustic responses
