Quantum eigenstate tomography with qubit tunneling spectroscopy
Measurement of the energy eigenvalues (spectrum) of a multi-qubit system has
recently become possible by qubit tunneling spectroscopy (QTS). In the standard
QTS experiments, an incoherent probe qubit is strongly coupled to one of the
qubits of the system in such a way that its incoherent tunneling rate provides
information about the energy eigenvalues of the original (source) system. In
this paper, we generalize QTS by coupling the probe qubit to many source
qubits. We show that by properly choosing the couplings, one can perform
projective measurements of the source system energy eigenstates in an arbitrary
basis, thus performing quantum eigenstate tomography. As a practical example of
a limited tomography, we apply our scheme to probe the eigenstates of a kink in
a frustrated transverse Ising chain.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Study of correlation of production and decay planes in diffractive dissociation process on nuclei
A large correlation of production and decay planes of
(\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-)-system in dissociation of -beam 40 GeV/c on nuclear
targets was observed. The dependence of the correlation on atomic number,
Feynmann variable and transversal momentum as well as on invariant mass of the
pion triple and neutral pion pair were investigated. It was shown that the
phenomenon has a clear dynamic origin and resembles the single spin asymmetry

On the T-Odd Quark Fragmentation Function and on Transversal Handedness
The first probe of the correlation of the T-odd one-particle fragmentation
function responsible for the left--right asymmetry of fragmentation of a
transversely polarized quark is done by using the 1991-95 DELPHI data for -jet decay. Integrated over the fraction of longitudinal and transversal
momenta, this correlation is of 1.5% order, which means order of 13% for the
analyzing power.
A rather large () handedness transversal to the production plane
was observed in the diffractive production of () triples from
nuclei by the --beam. It was shown that the phenomenon has a
clear dynamic origin and resembles the single spin asymmetry behavior. All this
makes us hope to use this effects in polarized DIS experiments for transversity

On the Spiral Structure of the Milky Way Galaxy
We consider the possible pattern of the overall spiral structure of the
Galaxy, using data on the distribution of neutral (atomic), molecular, and
ionized hydrogen, on the base of the hypothesis of the spiral structure being
symmetric, i.e. the assumption that spiral arms are translated into each other
for a rotation around the galactic center by 180{\deg} (a two-arm pattern) or
by 90{\deg} (a four-arm pattern). We demonstrate that, for the inner region,
the observations are best represented with a four-arm scheme of the spiral
pattern, associated with all-Galaxy spiral density waves. The basic position is
that of the Carina arm, reliably determined from distances to HII regions and
from HI and H2 radial velocities. This pattern is continued in the quadrants
III and IV with weak outer HI arms; from their morphology, the Galaxy should be
considered an asymmetric multi-arm spiral. The kneed shape of the outer arms
that consist of straight segments can indicate that these arms are transient
formations that appeared due to a gravitational instability in the gas disk.
The distances between HI superclouds in the two arms that are the brightest in
neutral hydrogen, the Carina arm and the Cygnus (Outer) arm, concentrate to two
values, permitting to assume the presence of a regular magnetic field in these

A Young Globular Cluster in the Galaxy NGC 6946
A globular cluster ~15 My old that contains 5x10^5 Msun of stars inside an 11
pc radius has been found in the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 6946, surrounded by
clouds of dust and smaller young clusters inside a giant circular bubble 300 pc
in radius. At the edge of the bubble is an arc of regularly-spaced clusters
that could have been triggered during the bubble's formation. The region is at
the end of a spiral arm, suggesting an origin by the asymmetric collapse of
spiral arm gas. The globular is one of the nearest examples of a cluster that
is similar to the massive old globulars in the Milky Way. We consider the
energetics of the bubble and possible formation mechanisms for the globular

Probing the deuteron structure at small N-N distances by cumulative pion production
The fragmentation of deuterons into pions emitted forward in the kinematic
region forbidden for free nucleon-nucleon collisions is analyzed. It is shown
that the inclusion of the non-nucleonic degrees of freedom in a deuteron
results in a satisfactory description of the data for the inclusive pion
spectrum and improves the description of the data about . According to
the data, has very small positive values, less than 0.2, which

Single 20meV boson mode in KFe2As2 detected by point-contact spectroscopy
We report an experimental and theoretical investigation of the electron-boson
interaction in KFe2As2 by point-contact (PC) spectroscopy, model, and ab-initio
LDA-based calculations for the standard electron-phonon Eliashberg function.
The PC spectrum viz. the second derivative of the I - V characteristic of
representative PC exhibits a pronounced maximum at about 20meV and surprisingly
a featureless behavior at lower and higher energies. We discuss phonon and
non-phonon (excitonic) mechanisms for the origin of this peak. Analysis of the
underlying source of this peak may be important for the understanding of
serious puzzles of superconductivity in this type of compounds.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figs., to be published in PR
Diffusion-controlled generation of a proton-motive force across a biomembrane
Respiration in bacteria involves a sequence of energetically-coupled electron
and proton transfers creating an electrochemical gradient of protons (a
proton-motive force) across the inner bacterial membrane. With a simple kinetic
model we analyze a redox loop mechanism of proton-motive force generation
mediated by a molecular shuttle diffusing inside the membrane. This model,
which includes six electron-binding and two proton-binding sites, reflects the
main features of nitrate respiration in E. coli bacteria. We describe the time
evolution of the proton translocation process. We find that the electron-proton
electrostatic coupling on the shuttle plays a significant role in the process
of energy conversion between electron and proton components. We determine the
conditions where the redox loop mechanism is able to translocate protons
against the transmembrane voltage gradient above 200 mV with a thermodynamic
efficiency of about 37%, in the physiologically important range of temperatures

Classical Cepheids and the spiral structure of the Milky Way
We use the currently most complete collection of reliable Cepheid positions
(565 stars) out to ~5 kpc based mostly on our photometric data to outline the
spiral pattern of our Galaxy. We find the pitch-angle to be equal to 9--10
degrees with the most accurate estimate (i=9.5 +/-0.1 degrees) obtained
assuming that the spiral pattern has a four-armed structure, and the solar
phase angle in the spiral pattern to be chi_0 = 121+/-3 degrees. The pattern
speed is found to be Omega_P=25.2+/-0.5km/s/kpc based on a comparison of the
positions of the spiral arms delineated by Cepheids and maser sources and the
