    Get PDF
Physical working conditions have potential effects on health, and play an important role in quality of life, and job satisfaction, yet most studies on the direct or indirect consequences of physical environmental conditions on healthcare professionals’ focus on outcomes such as performance, efficiency, and error. The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of the physical environment quality of healthcare settings on professionals’ wellbeing. The sample comprised 148 healthcare professionals working in inpatient or outpatient care units from four different hospitals. Two independent variables were used: Objective environmental quality (high/low) and Type of care unit (inpatient/outpatient); and three well-being indicators were analyzed: Job satisfaction, Perception of the care unit as close to an ideal care unit, and Subjective stress. Results show that healthcare professionals working in hospitals with better physical conditions feel more satisfied with their job, and perceive the care unit as closer to the ideal. Stress levels were not affected by physical environment quality or the type of care unit

A comparative study between the positioning obtained in two case studies depending on distances (~31 and ~4.9 km) was carried out through the static method of survey using the low-cost receivers of single (LEA-6T and NEO-M8T) and double frequency (ZED-F9P). The reference was taken as Geomax Zenith 25 geodetic order receiver. The positioning was evaluated with the current regulations in Mexico for the Circle of Probable Error (CEP) and Vertical Positional Accuracy (EPV) with an uncertainty of 95%. The discrepancies between coordinates for the same point in the ENU system were found to be the minimum values of ~ 2 mm and ~ 10 mm for a distance of ~31 and ~4.9 Km, respectively. The best results were obtained with the NEO-M8T single frequency receiver for the distance of ~31 km and for the distance of ~4.9 km, it is presented with the ZED-F9P receiver in conjunction with a geodetic antenna. Whereas on the other hand, the results show a degree of compliance in the positioning of low-cost receivers wherein the variation values of a maximum of 8 mm are obtained for CEP and for EPV 1 cm discrepancy was observed at 95% reliability. The LEA-6T and NEO-M8T receivers presented the best results for the case of ~31 km, in terms of CEP and EPV

Mapping dynamical systems onto complex networks

A procedure to characterize chaotic dynamical systems with concepts of complex networks is pursued, in which a dynamical system is mapped onto a network. The nodes represent the regions of space visited by the system, while edges represent the transitions between these regions. Parameters used to quantify the properties of complex networks, including those related to higher order neighborhoods, are used in the analysis. The methodology is tested for the logistic map, focusing the onset of chaos and chaotic regimes. It is found that the corresponding networks show distinct features, which are associated to the particular type of dynamics that have generated them.Comment: 13 pages, 8 eps files in 5 figure

A statistical comparative evaluation of 65 continuously operating, free access stations in Mexico was made. The observations were performed from January 2010 to January 2020. The quality check of the GPS observations was carried out by using TEQC software, developed by UNAVCO. Four quality indexes were considered within the quality check, with six variables: multipath effect on L1 and L2 band, percentage of registered/expected observations, signal-to-noise ratio on L1 and L2, and cycle slip per 1000 observations. The results obtained from each station were compared with the quality standard established by IGS in order to belong to its network, this with the goal of determining their quality and the level of meeting the standard. The results show, on average, a meeting 3.3 of the 6 variables, where: 6 stations meet 5 of 6 variables; 16 stations with 4; 35 stations with 3; 6 stations with 2 and 2 station with one variable, being INEG station the best in the quality check except for the cycle slips per 1000 observations. Likewise, it was shown that the multipath effect is greater in those stations that had not antenna/receiver changing or firmware update, mainly degrading the received signal on the L2 band

The new generation, low-cost U-blox ZED-F9P receiver was evaluated and statistically compared by GNSS observations on a geodesic monument, through both Precise Point Positioning and Static relative positioning techniques with a distance of 33 km from the references station. This was done with the purpose of checking the use feasibility of the low-cost receiver of similar gamma in topographic-geodesic works. To that end, four scenarios were considered: in the first scenario, the static relative positioning with the low-cost equipment was applied; in the second scenario, the static relative positioning with a geodetic receiver was applied. Both scenarios were processed with commercial software. The third and fourth scenarios were processed with Precise Point Positioning techniques through the RTKLIB software. The results show that Precise Point Positioning techniques get a precision of 1 cm through the use of low-cost equipment which is suitable to apply in geodetic works. In the static relative method, the precision obtained is 7 mm, indicating the possibility of using the low-cost equipment in both survey and geodetic high precision works, considering a line base ≤30 Km, according to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía normative

In this work we show new optical, ultraviolet (UV), and X-ray data taken from the San Pedro Mártir telescope, the New Technology Telescope, NTT/EFOSC2, and the Swift/XRT satellite. The source is highly variable at all frequencies, in particular the strongest variations are found in the broad Hα component with a flux increase of 61±4 per cent between 2009 and 2016, following the X-ray flux increase of 62±6 per cent between 2010 and 2016. We also detected a broad Hβ component in 2016, making the optical classification change from type 1.9 to type 1.8 in 1 yr. We have also detected a broad component of the [OIII]λ5007 line, which is blue-shifted and of high velocity, suggesting an origin from a highly disturbed medium, possibly an outflow. The line flux variability and broad widths are indicative of a jet that is, at least in part, responsible for the ionization of the broad line region (BLR) and narrow line region (NLR). © 2018 The Author(s) Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Astronomical Society.https://academic.oup.com/mnras/article-abstract/478/4/4634/4999938?redirectedFrom=fulltex

The observation of the premature degradations detected in High Alumina concretes due to the transformation and carbonation of this kind of cement has promoted the interest to develop in-situ testing methods for the fast Identification of HAC presence. In present work, preliminary results are given on the use of magnetic methods (pachometer), usually employed in the concrete cover verification, to identify the existence of HAC in a concrete. The laboratory results have been verified in practice and show that HAC can be clearly distinguished of an OPC concrete with the pachometer used in present experimentation. The research has also indicated that fly ash cements as aluminous one, have a lower magnetic reluctance.

With advancements in geodesy and enhancements in the technical specifications of low-cost receivers, GNSS opens up new avenues for investigating the capabilities and performance provided by these receivers for various geodetic purposes. In this context, the precision achievable using the low-cost GNSS receiver ZED-F9P in conjunction with two geodetic antennas (ASH701975.01B and LEIAS10 NONE) and a low-cost antenna (BEIBT300 NONE) was analyzed. GNSS observations were conducted over a 2-day period for each antenna model. The analysis involved observation durations of 12, 6, and 1 h. These observations were processed using the static relative method alongside a continuously operating GNSS station from the Active National Geodetic Network of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, situated at ~4 km. The results demonstrate that the highest precision was achieved over a 12 h period, with minimal differences of 3 cm for the North component and 33 cm for the vertical component. Conversely, the least accurate solution was obtained within a 1 h observation period, resulting in differences of up to 70 cm, 46 cm, and 2.3 m for the North, East, and vertical components, respectively

Synbiotic therapy decreases microbial translocation and inflammation and improves immunological status in HIV-infected patients: a double-blind randomized controlled pilot trial

BACKGROUND: HIV-infection results in damage and dysfunction of the gastrointestinal system. HIV enteropathy includes pronounced CD4+ T-cell loss, increased intestinal permeability, and microbial translocation that promotes systemic immune activation, which is implicated in disease progression. A synbiotic is the combination of probiotics and prebiotics that could improve gut barrier function. Our study goal was to determine whether the use of a synbiotic, probiotics or a prebiotic can recover immunological parameters in HIV-infected subjects through of a reduction of microbial translocation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. METHODS: A randomized, double-blind controlled study was performed; twenty Antiretroviral treatment-naïve HIV-infected subjects were subgrouped and assigned to receive a synbiotic, probiotics, a prebiotic, or a placebo throughout 16 weeks. RESULTS: We had no reports of serious adverse-events. From baseline to week 16, the synbiotic group showed a reduction in bacterial DNA concentrations in plasma (p = 0.048). Moreover, the probiotic and synbiotic groups demonstrated a decrease in total bacterial load in feces (p = 0.05). The probiotic group exhibited a significant increment of beneficial bacteria load (such as Bifidobacterium; p = 0.05) and a decrease in harmful bacteria load (such as Clostridium; p = 0.063). In the synbiotic group, the CD4+ T-cells count increased (median: +102 cells/μL; p = 0.05) and the level of Interleukin 6 cytokine decreased significantly (p = 0.016). CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed a significant increase in CD4+ T lymphocyte levels in the synbiotic group, which could delay the initiation of antiretroviral therapy and decrease costs in countries with limited resources
