Soil and water pollution in a banana production region in tropical Mexico
The effects of abundant Mancozeb (Mn, Zn— bisdithiocarbamate) applications (2.5 kg ha-1week-1 for 10 years) on soil and surface-, subsurface- and groundwater pollution were monitored in a banana production region of tropical Mexico. In soils, severe manganese accumulation was observed, wheras the main metabolite ethylenethiourea was near the detection limit. Surface and subsurface water was highly polluted with ethylenethiourea, the main metabolite of Mancozeb (22.5 and 4.3 lg L-1, respectively), but not with manganese. In deep ground water, no ethylenethiourea was detected. The level of pollution in the region presents a worrisome risk for aquatic life and for human health

Towards the Identification and Classification of Solar Granulation Structures Using Semantic Segmentation
Solar granulation is the visible signature of convective cells at the solar surface. The granulation cellular pattern observed in the continuum intensity images is characterised by diverse structures e.g., bright individual granules of hot rising gas or dark intergranular lanes. Recently, the access to new instrumentation capabilities has given us the possibility to obtain high-resolution images, which have revealed the overwhelming complexity of granulation (e.g., exploding granules and granular lanes). In that sense, any research focused on understanding solar small-scale phenomena on the solar surface is sustained on the effective identification and localization of the different resolved structures. In this work, we present the initial results of a proposed classification model of solar granulation structures based on neural semantic segmentation. We inspect the ability of the U-net architecture, a convolutional neural network initially proposed for biomedical image segmentation, to be applied to the dense segmentation of solar granulation. We use continuum intensity maps of the IMaX instrument onboard the Sunrise I balloon-borne solar observatory and their corresponding segmented maps as a training set. The training data have been labeled using the multiple-level technique (MLT) and also by hand. We performed several tests of the performance and precision of this approach in order to evaluate the versatility of the U-net architecture. We found an appealing potential of the U-net architecture to identify cellular patterns in solar granulation images reaching an average accuracy above 80% in the initial training experiments
Utilización terapéutica de los anticuerpos monoclonales
La utilización de terapias basadas en anticuerpos monoclonales ha supuesto un gran avance en la práctica clínica. Tienen un ámbito de utilización muy diverso, incluyendo aplicaciones diagnósticas y terapéuticas principalmente. En cuanto a su uso como tratamiento, las áreas más beneficiadas con su descubrimiento han sido la oncología y las enfermedades del sistema inmune.
Se trata de un área en continuo crecimiento, tanto por la aparición de nuevos fármacos, como por la ampliación de indicaciones de los ya existentes. Esta revisión resume las características farmacológicas más importantes de los anticuerpos monoclonales comercializados en nuestro país. Se centra principalmente en la utilidad terapeútica, dosificación, eventos adversos de gran relevancia clínica y consideraciones importantes para su correcta administración. También se realiza un breve apunte de las indicaciones de los anticuerpos monoclonales autorizados por la agencia europea del medicamento (EMEA) y que se encuentran en distintas fases del proceso de comercialización.The utilization of therapies based on monoclonal antibodies has supposed a great advance in the clinical practice. They have a diverse field of use, including diagnostic and therapeutic applications. As treatment, the most benefited has been the oncology and immune system diseases.
This is an area in continuous growth, so much for the appearance of new medicaments, since for the extension of indications of the already existing ones. This review summarizes the most important pharmacological characteristics of the monoclonal antibodies commercialized in our country. It centres principally on the authorized indications, dosing, adverse events of great clinical relevancy and important considerations for his correct administration. Also there is realized a brief note of the indications of the monoclonal antibodies authorized by the European agency of the medicine (EMEA) and that are in different phases of the process of commercialization
Effect of Aspirin on Cell Growth of Human MG-63 Osteosarcoma Line
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used in bone tissue repair treatment for their pharmacological action. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of aspirin, on osteoblast growth, using MG63 cell line as osteoblast model. MTT spectrophotometry results showed that 20, 100, and 1000 μM aspirin doses have an inhibitory effect on growth. Cell cycle analysis revealed that aspirin doses of 100 and 1000 μM arrest the cell cycle in phase GO/G1. Parallel apoptosis/necrosis studies showed no changes in comparison to control cells after treatment with 1 or 10 μM aspirin but a significantly increased percentage of cells in apoptosis at doses of 20, 100, and 1000 μM. We highlight that treatment of osteoblast-like cells with 1000 μM aspirin increased not only the percentage of cells in apoptosis but also the percentage of necrotic cells, which was not observed in aspirin treatments at lower doses
Covariant derivative of the curvature tensor of pseudo-K\"ahlerian manifolds
It is well known that the curvature tensor of a pseudo-Riemannian manifold
can be decomposed with respect to the pseudo-orthogonal group into the sum of
the Weyl conformal curvature tensor, the traceless part of the Ricci tensor and
of the scalar curvature. A similar decomposition with respect to the
pseudo-unitary group exists on a pseudo-K\"ahlerian manifold; instead of the
Weyl tensor one obtains the Bochner tensor. In the present paper, the known
decomposition with respect to the pseudo-orthogonal group of the covariant
derivative of the curvature tensor of a pseudo-Riemannian manifold is refined.
A decomposition with respect to the pseudo-unitary group of the covariant
derivative of the curvature tensor for pseudo-K\"ahlerian manifolds is
obtained. This defines natural classes of spaces generalizing locally symmetric
spaces and Einstein spaces. It is shown that the values of the covariant
derivative of the curvature tensor for a non-locally symmetric
pseudo-Riemannian manifold with an irreducible connected holonomy group
different from the pseudo-orthogonal and pseudo-unitary groups belong to an

The nuclear and extended mid-infrared emission of Seyfert galaxies
We present subarcsecond resolution mid-infrared (MIR) images obtained with
8-10 m-class ground-based telescopes of a complete volume-limited (DL<40 Mpc)
sample of 24 Seyfert galaxies selected from the Swift/BAT nine month catalog.
We use those MIR images to study the nuclear and circumnuclear emission of the
galaxies. Using different methods to classify the MIR morphologies on scales of
~400 pc, we find that the majority of the galaxies (75-83%) are extended or
possibly extended and 17-25% are point-like. This extended emission is compact
and it has low surface brightness compared with the nuclear emission, and it
represents, on average, ~30% of the total MIR emission of the galaxies in the
sample. We find that the galaxies whose circumnuclear MIR emission is dominated
by star formation show more extended emission (650+-700 pc) than AGN-dominated
systems (300+-100 pc). In general, the galaxies with point-like MIR
morphologies are face-on or moderately inclined (b/a~0.4-1.0), and we do not
find significant differences between the morphologies of Sy1 and Sy2. We used
the nuclear and circumnuclear fluxes to investigate their correlation with
different AGN and SF activity indicators. We find that the nuclear MIR emission
(the inner ~70 pc) is strongly correlated with the X-ray emission (the harder
the X-rays the better the correlation) and with the [O IV] lambda 25.89 micron
emission line, indicating that it is AGN-dominated. We find the same results,
although with more scatter, for the circumnuclear emission, which indicates
that the AGN dominates the MIR emission in the inner ~400 pc of the galaxies,
